Firearms in a World of Magic

[This novel has been discontinued.] In world of magic and mythical creatures, who wouldn't dream of living there? From incredibly tall and steep mountains to floating islands with huge waterfalls going down below to the endless horizon of sea. Legendary magicians capable of destroying whole mountain ranges, druids terraforming an entire desert into a lush tropical paradise and even more exciting stuff. Last but not least, magic. The concept of mana all around everything. Being able to spark a fire without using a lighter to flying endlessly on the blanket of clouds in the cold breezy sky. There's no questioning why people wouldn't practice magic. However, there was a man who reincarnated in that said world and unfortunately for him, he had little to no talent in magic. Regardless of that; on one fateful day, he suddenly woke up to the surprise of a firearm by the side of his bed. That was when he knew, he didn't need magic after all. “If I can't use magic, I'll just use my knowledge of guns to make up for it!” He said, not knowing what was to come in the future. --- If you want to be quick, you can skip to Chapter 8. The synopsis does already covers some of it but you'll miss out at the characters.

Magic Huh.

Schiessemann brought an enormously thick book on his hand. Although he was a magician, he struggled to properly lift the book on his hands.

He used the entirety of his strength to lift the book and panted as he went. "Ha.. I'll have you read this book for a couple of minutes while I go frick off somewhere." Schiessemann said as he hurriedly rushed to the backdoor of the watchtower. He also gave a short goodbye wave to Zwischez before heading wherever he was heading to.

"Huh. Never noticed there was a door there." Kaalsuo commented about the door. It was natural for Kaalsuo to not notice the door as it was shrouded by randomly placed furniture. There was quite an abundance of random furniture that could be seen. From empty bookshelves, oversized wooden chairs, a golden toilet out of all things and much more ordinary everyday objects.

Anyways, Zwischez seemed to be confused as to how on Earth he was going to read. Just as Kaalsuo, he too couldn't read as he and his entire family was illiterate. Kaalsuo presumed the possibility that it was likely because Schiessemann may have not known about Zwischez's illiteracy.

However, Kaalsuo couldn't help but notice that his presumption might be incorrect as Schiessemann surely should've noticed the kid's behaviour towards books by now. Even so, the man should've probably seen the locals around here.

Nonetheless, Kaalsuo figured that he needed to continue being a observer for now as he didn't want to overthink minor things so much. It was best for him to relax for now and watch.

"Uh. What's these squiggly lines here and what's this weird circles?" Zwischez said in a curious yet confused expression as he scratched the back of hid head. It seemed that Zwischez was really struggling on the simple task of reading.

Zwischez silently stared at the contents of the books as his fingers began to slowly become erratic and inpatient. Struggling to control the will of his head which wanted to gaze upon the endless spots of entertainment he could humanly think of.

For a good minute, it awkwardly stayed that way. Zwischez even sweated during that period due to his resistance but alas. Ultimately, he couldn't take it anymore and finally succumbed to his usual antics of playfully running around the bookshelves and creating a huge mess.

Coincidentally, Schiessemann suddenly appeared out of nowhere as he descended from the upper floor of the watchtower. He glided towards the ground and swiftly took Zwischez by his arms and putting back into place.

"I knew you would do that." Schiessemann sighed and sat on a stack of books which held the perfect height for Schiessemann to use as an improvised chair.

"This book is boring!" Zwischez responded, showing a slightly dissatisfied expression on his face. In his perspective, he had basically been scammed. He expected the book to be one of those picture books with awe inspiring illustrations.

Instead, he got a strange thick book with it's content showing weird random lines all across the pages and some garbage images showing nothing but circles with some scribbling in the middle.

"Well, sorry about that. I was just testing you." Schiessemann laughed and shrugged the problem off in such a fake and obvious manner in which Zwischez even caught on.

"Uncle, you're faking."

"You're right about that but I'm not actually faking the test part." Schiessemann stated, massaging his neck muscles for what he was about to explain in absolutely unnecessarily detailed description.

He heavily breathed for a good two seconds before finally letting out the enormous information of words.

"You might be surprised but I'm actually testing whether you're actually a magical prodigy as the great magician, me. That's the short story but if you want the long story, I can absolutely tell you that now. Basically, I tea-....."

"What?" Kaalsuo couldn't help but become uttered confused. The reason was that he had absolutely no idea what Schiessemann was currently speaking. In fact, he was speaking outstandingly quick that even his puny little ears couldn't catch up.

Kaalsuo loosened up and prepare to pour his whole available energy into his hearing senses. In addition to that, he even tried the good old hand over the ear trick.

"I slightly hear some of the words!" Kaalsuo immediately became hyped as if he randomly figured out a cheat code in a game. He attempted to hear at least some portion of Schiessemann's words.

"...-The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark, get ready, start."

"Oh, hell nah." Kaalsuo was utterly disgusted at what he had just heard with his poor little ears. It was likely due to focusing on his hearing that perhaps his brain couldn't handle the strain on his mind. The brain perhaps just played a random memory of Earth instead of bothering to stop Kaalsuo on his quest.

One could say that the soul and mind was fighting against eachother. Though, that would certainly become troublesome as it's highly possible that it's basically the same thing.

"Okay! I'm finished." Schiessemann took a huge breath and immediately sat on his mechanical chair of wonder. Certainly, speaking as fast as a hypersonic jet would quite perhaps 'slightly' strain the vocal cords.

"Don't worry if you had absolutely no clue as to what I said earlier. It's classified information." Schiessemann assured the two confused kids. However, he was suspiciously glancing at Kaalsuo every now and then.

Nonetheless, Kaalsuo didn't mind though as it's natural for the babysitter to just silently watch over the infant do various dangerous activities perhaps such as silently gobbling up the candy meant for the washing machine.

"Sorry for wasting your time, Zwischez. I promise I'm going to be serious starting from.. now." Schiessemann flicked his fingers as a sudden burst of smoke appeared from his location.

As the smoke dispersed, it revealed Schiessemann's change of attire. He was now wearing your typical black magician robe. The robe had multiple different patterns and shapes such as runes on the sleeves of the robe and lightning details over the side. However, Schiessemann didn't include wearing the stereotypical crooked and pointed magician hat to his attire.

"How do I look?" Schiessemann asked for Zwischez's comment to his new hip look. The kid just gave an overly enthusiastic thumbs up to the look.

——————————————————————————————

"Since you can't read, I'll just read it out loud for you."

Schiessemann cracked one of his finger's knuckles and proceeded to read the text loud and clearly.

"Fireball!" The moment he said that, an enormous sphere of fire the size of even Zwischez appeared and headed for the wall of the watchtower. Schiessemann shortly afterwards quickly dispelled the spell while slowly sweating.

"I forgot to weaken myself." Schiessemann sighed and took off dozens of nearly invisible bracelets decorated with some kind of glowing crystals.

Zwischez was about to recreate the same spell when Schiessemann stopped him in his tracks. "I think we should do this outside to prevent ourselves from 'destroying the tower'."

Zwischez swiftly rushed outside with Schiessemann slowly following behind. However, that had clearly forgotten who had been left behind.

Luckily, Schiessemann knew about this and weaved a spell to autonomously float Kaalsuo the way there.

"Thank goodness they didn't randomly forget about me." Kaalsuo exclaimed, feeling relieved that he was about to witness the grand basics of magic. He was now reaching the endgame, the final goal of infant life. Magic.

A few minutes passed and Kaalsuo and the group were now on a flat plain of land on the side of a cliff. There was nothing too special about the land. Just a few shrubs and a small tiny tree.

"Alright, go ahead."

"Okay!" Zwischez prepared himself for the surprise and casually said the same words as earlier. He didn't know what to expect but he hoped that he could somehow make it work.

"Fireball!" A small fireball appeared, just floating in the air. It wasn't shooting away like it should be. He was confused what to do and in an attempt to fix the spell, he flicked his fingers and to his surprise, the immobile fireball began flying in extremely fast speed and collided the cliff. It resulted in some tiny pieces of the cliff vaporising in a matter of seconds.

"I d-did it!" Zwischez hopped with excitement as he turned around to glance at Schiessemann's reaction. Strangely, the man seemed incredibly surprised yet shocked at the result which resulted in Zwischez wondering if he had done something problematic in the steps.

"You.. can use Gesture Guide?" Schiessemann silently mumbled, commenting on Zwischez's amazing first attempt on magic. However, Zwischez somewhat heard about the mumble and began to ponder about what could possibly be that.

"Zwischez, do it again."

"Yes, sir!"

Zwischez repeated the same exact actions as last time with the only difference being that he had figured out what he had been doing.

"Well well, I guess that's it for today." Schiessemann wrapped the session after only two attempts by Zwischez which confused Zwischez as he expected to be given five attempts on magic at least which made him conclude that his uncle wasn't satisfied.

"Sorry."

"What are you sorry about? You did an outstandingly great job."

Upon those words, Zwischez's mood immediately lightened up and regained some of his previously lost enthusiasm about magic.

"Since your mother isn't here for a while, I've decided to teach some magic meanwhile. We don't need to rush things so let's get back home." Schiessemann concluded the session with Zwischez sprinting ahead to the watchtower. Of course, Kaalsuo was followed shortly afterwards with the ridiculously slow velocity he was having.

——————————————————————————————

'A year passed by since that random session.

Zwischez began to slowly pick up the magic shit and can even level a whole hill he wants to.' Kaalsuo remarked.

'What have I done during that period? Have I finally progressed on magic?'

'No. I had no progress whatsoever. I know every single step I have to take for me to practice magic. However, it's as if my legs has been disabled since the beginning.'

Kaalsuo sighed, sitting on a hill created by dozens of Zwischez's attempts on earth magic. Zwischez had done the attempts a tad bit too much as he had created a hill capable of being seen from the bottom of the valley.

Kaalsuo was disappointed in this life so far. The world and magic he had dreamt of since his childhood was finally within the grasp of his hands. Unfortunately, his hands were incapable of grasping it.

He just didn't have the talent to do so. He tried everything he could to just use magic even the slightest yet and nothing had happened since. Even with hard work, Kaalsuo figured that there was a limit to that and his limit was unfortunately at the very beginning of practicing magic.

"Might as well go back to sleep. It's getting dark." Kaalsuo said, looking at the sun slowly diving behind the mountains of the valley.

He lazily strolled back to the house and headed to his bed to witness a shocking sight.

It was a Mauser C96 pistol.
