The Tunnel

Ethan sighted the guard's signal from the tower. His heart raced sporadically. For a moment he reconsidered following the instructions. He wasn't sure of what fate awaited his friend but the fear of being judged and persecuted cut out his courage.

"We should start heading back now; I have some engagements I must attend to. I am sure that the new Alpha should be meeting with the other Wolf leaders today." Ethan said to his friend.

"Very well then my friend. This was a relieving experience.", Bruce replied looking up to the sky.

They both got down from the tower. Bruce made his way to the Chambers while Ethan dispersed to his quarters. He turned at intervals to take a look at his friend; his heart suffused with guilt.

"Here you are Alpha Bruce; your father demands for your presence at the Courtyard.", Ramon who had been waiting for Bruce to arrive informed him.

"Very well; I shall be on my way.", Bruce responded and headed to the Courtyard. Ramon gave him some distance and then when he was sure that he was far off, he followed suit walking gradually.

Bruce got to the courtyard and upon beholding the sight of his father lying in his pool of blood, he ran immediately to meet him. He carried him up and placed him on his bosom. Bruce hurriedly pulled out the silver stake plunged into his father's chest.

"Father! Who did this?", Bruce said in bitter pain. He looked around to see if he could see anyone but the Courtyard was empty.

"Run my son; run Bruce. They will come for you too.", William struggled to keep his eyes open saying those words with the last breath he had.

"Who did this father?", Bruce asked in tears. He covered the gash in his father's body with his hands to regulate the bleeding but blood poured out profusely from the deep puncture.

"Darius…Ramon… save your mother!", William said in a feeble voice. He held Bruce tightly by his wrist and mustering the remaining vitality in him, he said;

"They must not capture you; they are too many…you can fight some other day.", then he abandoned his body and breathed his last.

Bruce wailed softly, tears running down his eyes like a stream. He was completely devastated. He shook his father profusely in an attempt to get him to wake up but the old Wolf was far gone.

"The young Alpha has shown his level of perfidy. He has slain his father. What level of Treason!", Darius echoed from a distance. He was marching forward with Ramon and seven guards.

"You did this!", Bruce brawled at the Beta. He proceeded to attack his Uncle but the guards who were brainwashed charged at him. Rudolf on the other hand assembled behind with his Pack members.

Realizing that he had walked into a trap, Bruce ran into the Hall knocking down one of the guards who tried to seize him by the collar.

"After him! He must not escape.", Darius ordered the guards.

Bruce ran into his mother who gasped at the sight of his hands and silk shirt stained with blood.

"I am sorry mother.", Bruce said softly. He gently pushed her aside and ran towards the alcove and hid in the fireplace. The guards continued to search for him.

Tala stood at a spot speechless. She stared deep at her hands stained with the blood of William due to her touch with Bruce.

The area seemed suffocating and so Bruce got out to find a suitable place to hide but he collided with someone.

Elena almost screamed at the gory sight of the Alpha. She had come to begin her final task for the day. Sudden fear impinged into her and she made an attempt to scream but the Alpha covered her mouth and dragged her to a safe corner.

"I won't hurt you I promise. Please don't make a sound.", Bruce said and slightly uncovered her mouth.

Elena seemed restless and frightened at the same time. She shivered but made no attempt to make any sound.

"It's been you all this while.", Bruce said; suddenly realizing the scent that evaporated from the Omega. This time it was intense and scented like a honing beacon.

Elena looked at the Alpha, not sure of what he meant. She was seventeen and couldn't sense her mate.

Bruce took a quick stare at the Omega in front of her. Notwithstanding her worn out silk gown and her hollow-eyes, she still seemed adorable to him. Her blonde hair curled perfectly down her shoulders; her Golden eyes reflecting sparkles of sunshine. She was his fated mate!

Elena stared at the six-feet tall Alpha in front of her. She had the opportunity to pay him back for ending her father's life but she suddenly felt a soft spot for him. The Alpha was huge with red eyes and an oval face, his jaw perfectly pointed with his raven hair perfectly complementing his face. She was thrilled at his sight.

"This is unreal!", She thought to herself.

Bruce heard the clamor of some of the guards who were in search of him. He signaled to Elena to be quiet. Then he pinned her to the wall and leaned over towards her; his body shading hers. Elena held the Alpha tightly hopeful that the guards did not get to see them.

At that moment, Elena's breath fastened at the sight of the Alpha leaning so close to her; his sight so breathtaking. She never imagined herself feeling that way for her greatest enemy. The more she tried not to stare, the more she found herself gazed upon him.

When he was sure that the guards had left the area, Bruce moved away from Elena and leaned on the wall panting in relief.

"Follow me.", Elena said to the Alpha.

Tiptoeing carefully, they got to a spot; Elena pushed a secret door to reveal a tunnel. Bruce who seemed shocked at the discovery stared at Elena for a while but some guards were heard approaching.

Bruce took one last gracious look at Elena and went into the tunnel. Elena hurriedly closed the secret door and quickly left to change her silk gown which was stained with blood.
