Wolf in a Spider's Web

With the light of the fire gone, Selene was left to bask only in the moonlight. The crowd had already left and she was left standing naked and alone. Regardless of whether the flame was there or not she took her first step forward, to begin her dance. But she was caught, tangled in invisible webs. From the perspective of the only other observer there, she looked like a puppet that attempted to leave its master's hand before cutting its strings.

"Sigh... I suppose you will always be the Wolf at heart, even if you have a higher calling," a somewhat defeated voice spoke.

"You whisked me away on the most important day of my life, erased all memory of me from my clan, and even deny me to at least dance for my own sake," Selene snarled, "Why do you act surprised when I rebel. This is all your fault and that stupid spider," she yelled.

"Wear this," the person tossed a robe to Selene, "And you will refer to me as Teacher or by my name, Cadence. I won't tolerate any more of your childish disrespect and primitive ignorance," she spoke flatly, but that did not lessen the threat in her words.

Selene wore the robe and remained silent staring at the extinguished flame.

"Why won't it let me dance," she asked weakly.

"It is not the way of the Weaver. We are here to chronicle and determine the course of history, we do not intervene more than our writings. We do not interact with the world of our stories."

"Then why can I not refuse. I was not meant to be one of your spiders. You all took me away from people and stole away my destiny."

"Ignorant primitive," Cadence muttered, and then grabbed Selene bringing them face to face, "We are the ones who write that destiny. You have no say in this because it has long been written, that you would always become a Weaver and I would have the misfortune of being the one to anoint you."

Cadence then dragged Selene a few steps away when they both disappeared.

When they reappeared Selene was tossed to the floor, where she slid and rolled for a few feet before being stopped by a wall.

"I have grown sick of having to chase you around. This is the last time you'll be running around doing whatever you want. You are meant to be the next Fateweaver and whether you accept it or not that will not change," Cadence grabbed Selene and dragged her by the ankle through the halls, "You will run away again, I do not doubt that. You have also proven that no cage I put you in will hinder you. So we won't be doing that anymore."

Cadence dragged Selene into a room where she once again tossed her aside like a piece of trash. Selene looked around in an attempt to find an exit. The room was more like a large and very long hallway which she couldn't see the end of. On either side of this hall, were bookshelves filled to the brim. Looking along the wall there were occasional breaks between the shelves, but she couldn't see what was in those places.

Cadence had left her alone and walked deeper into the hall. She continued to survey the hall for at least a place to hide, but the sound of footsteps grew closer and closer.

"Now then, since no cage will hold you and continue with these childish protests, we'll be trying something new," Cadence appeared with an odd book in her hands. The book was clearly old just judging by the yellowing pages and faded cover.

Cadence placed the book down in front of Selene and stepped back a few feet(meters). She stared at Selene and Selene stared back at her, silence reigning between the two.

"Are you so stupid that I have to tell you what to do, open the damn book and read," Cadence yelled.

"Primitives," she muttered.

Selene had long since become used to this kind of treatment from Cadence. The shouting, insults, and even being dragged were nothing new to her. But still, she was startled this time. Cadence had never once broken her prim and proper facade. No matter how angry she got the most she would do is raise her voice to simulate a shout. But actually yelling like this was a first, and with the time they were forced to spend together, Selene knew that all firsts like this were followed by an immensely unpleasant period.

So she did as she was told, she opened the book to a random page and began to read.

"NO, YOU DAMN IDIOT READ FROM THE FIRST PAGE,"

Cadence shrieked but it was too late, Selene had already read the title of the page she had opened to.

When she opened the book she, thought that so long as she at least showed that she would listen Cadence would leave her alone. So opening to a random page she read the first word that came into her sight.

'Planeswalker'

That was the first and last word of the text she'd seen. The words jumped off the page and coiled around her, causing her to growl a bit at the familiar feeling of being tangled in 'that' things web. The last thing she heard was the shriek of Cadence, and then the words pulled her into the page.

She was glad to have escaped, Cadence even if only for a little bit.

The book closed and if not for the fact that she had brought the book and witnessed the events, she wouldn't think it was the same book. It looked brand new, the yellowed pages were now so white they were even shinning a bit. The tattered and faded cover changed from the faded and scuffed brown to a glossy black material almost like obsidian. In gold letters, the title revealed itself once again as 'The Fateweaver Records'.

Cadence stood stunned and fuming at the careless actions of Selene. After a few seconds she calmed down and her expressionless face washed away all of the previous emotions painted on it.

"Good, she deserves this much. Maybe now she'll learn something, annoying little primitive," she muttered.

Cadence picked up the book and disappeared fading into the darkness of the long hall.

So although I promised no more dances and I too was kind of sick of them after three chapters of it. I did have a dance planned for her, but it only came to me after I heard a song by the artist Echos called Revival. I might work my way back around to it at some point. Echos has such a beautiful voice to me.

But hey finally getting into the story proper, sort of proper, maybe a half-step proper. Either way Selene's story is finally beginning.
