Chapter 40: Girls' Night I – Party On, Comments OffNotes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
More than a few interested eyes moved to look at Momo as she made the proposal. Thankfully they could take their time changing out of their costumes, as they had finished their lessons for the week.
"A party?" Kyoka asked curiously.
"A party!" Mina, Toru, Komori, and Pony cheered, raising their hands enthusiastically.
"I don't think we have enough supplies to organize such a thing tonight though," Ibara voiced her worry.
"We can always have a quick shopping run nearby," Tokage suggested.
"It would just be a little thing between us girls," Kendo replied. "There's no need for extravagant stuff."
"Yup. Just us," Ochaco nodded. "Nice and easy."
"Oooh! A girls' night!" Toru cooed.
"Ah, I see. It would certainly be simpler this way," Yanagi agreed.
"Might even make it a sleepover at this point," Tokage proposed with a smirk, surprising Momo with the idea.
"A sleepover?!" Mina raised her voice again. "Yes!"
"It could be fun, ribbit," Tsu approved, followed by a hum by Yui.
"I confess I have no experience with this kind of event, but I'd love to try," Momo said. The kind of parties her family had partaken in weren't even remotely on the same level. She had read something about this type of mingling, but she had never participated in one herself.
"Whaaat?" the pinkette cried out. "We've gotta remedy, stat!"
"Where are we going to do it though?" Komori questioned. "Common room's gonna be filled by the boys."
"Yeah, I'm sure they'll be playing videogames for hours," Toru huffed.
"Um, don't we have a whole floor to ourselves?" Tokage asked rhetorically.
"But we can't just stay in the corridors!" Pony pouted with exaggerated hand movements.
"And most rooms are just too cramped..." Kendo thought aloud with a light frown.
"We could use my room," Ochaco offered. "I don't have much stuff, so it'll be easier to make space for other mattresses and cushions."
"Girl, you're forgetting one thing..." the lizard girl smirked at the proposal before pointing her thumb at the mostly silent girl. "Size is Yui's bitch!"
Shiozaki gave her the stink eye before sighing as usual, but let the conversation carry on.
"Mm," Kodai nodded, announcing her readiness to participate in the preparation.
"In that case, I believe that we should be fine in my room," Momo proposed, as she had been the one to suggest the party to the group in the first place. "My bed might not fit us all as of now, but it seems that problem might be easily solved," she smiled.
"Right. We should just downsize the rest of your furniture and move it outside for the time being," Kendo proposed before looking at her black-haired classmate. "I trust your control, but let's be safe about it."
"Mm," Kodai hummed, adding a small smile to quell Kendo's worry of having hurt her feelings.
"I'll aid in the moving," Yanagi offered. "We shall proceed with the preparations as soon as we've back."
"Let's go then! I can't wait!" Mina was practically jumping in place.
"Oh, you're cooking already?" Sero said, surprised, as he, Kirishima, Kaminari, Tetsutetsu, Awase, and Kaibara passed by. Most of the guys had decided to hit the gym or the track before calling it a day, and they were only just slowly trickling in the dorms.
Tsuyu nodded in response. "Just putting some snacks together, ribbit. Can you pass me that bowl?" She could have reached it herself, but getting her tongue on shared food wouldn't have been polite.
"Got plans for the night already?" the electric blonde asked, reaching out to grab a chip before Mina's hand could stop him.
"Hey!" the pinkette pouted, swatting him away as he laughed.
"We're having a party!" Pony was all smiles as she hugged half a dozen cola bottles.
"Cool. Need some help?" Awase offered.
"Something to move around?" Tetsutetsu added, seemingly unable to tone it down. Having spent the last hour lifting weights apparently hadn't been enough for him.
Kendo shook her head. "Thanks, but we're fine. Yui, Reiko, and Ochaco have it handled."
"Should have figured," Awase rubbed the back of his head, tilting his bandana slightly.
"Is that all you have? Doesn't look like much," Kaibara commented. He wasn't wrong, as most of them could eat more than any other teen their age... and then there was Momo, with her ridiculous daily calorie requirement. Though, to be fair, after the training they had gone through that afternoon Tsuyu felt like she had enough space in her stomach to eat an entire elephant.
"We're getting some pizzas delivered later, and Tokage and Shiozaki are coming back from a quick shopping run with Miss Midnight," Toru replied happily.
On cue, the lizard girl's voice came from the opening door with a "We're here!" followed by a calmer "With the healthier options," from the vine-haired girl. The sight of the two gift-carriers, lit from behind by the setting sun, could have been poetic if it weren't bound to be ruined by the sound of rumbling stomachs.
"No fair!" Kaminari complained as they got to take a look at their haul. "We should get snacks and pizza too!"
"Just get your own," Tokage added with a grin, placing the groceries on the counter and sending a hand to help Komori balance her tray.
"Ask everybody in the building if they want some, text me the orders, and gather the money. Mr. Kan told us to make it one order only," Kendo proposed before the guy could break down in envious tears.
"The others must be upstairs!" Awase pointed out before he proceeded to run away to gather everyone that could be interested.
"He'll be back in five," Kaibara sighed, watching his overexcited friend go.
"We'll get out of your hair then," Kirishima grinned, turning towards the stairs to see another teen evading Awase as he ran.
"Ooh, that smells nice," Midoriya commented as he entered the room, passing by the kettle and making a few heads turn.
"Hey, Midobro! Where were you?"
"You left before we could compare weights!" Tetsutetsu grunted.
"You went so fast we barely saw you go," Kaminari joked.
"Sorry guys," the greenette showed a sheepish smile, "I was in a rush."
"Look at how he's dressed," Sero whistled, wearing a sly grin. "Going somewhere nice?"
Tsuyu took a moment to take in the boy's clothes, and he was indeed dressed to impress. He looked just a tad uncomfortable in the nice dark green jacket, but the whole ensemble seemed almost brand new and fitted him perfectly.
She wasn't one to rate appearance over character, but she liked what she was seeing.
"You could say that," Midoriya chuckled.
"Friday date?" Kaibara asked playfully, voicing the question the guys wanted to ask, if only to see if Midoriya would be embarrassed. It also had the unwanted effect of having most gazes focus on him in an instant.
She felt a shiver run down her back. Why were her instincts telling her that she was surrounded by predators?
"Oh! No, no, it's not that," Midoriya laughed it off, shacking his hands in denial. "My mom just got a promotion, so we're going out for a fancy dinner," he gestured at his suit.
Tsuyu felt the tension in the air drop together with a few relaxed sighs. The girls couldn't have been more obvious...
"I don't even know if I'll be able to be back before curfew though, so I went to say goodnight to Eri before coming back," the greenette added. "That's why I had to leave so fast."
"Gotcha," the steel boy and the others nodded as Mina and Toru cooed. Talks about the small child always left the two—and many others—overwhelmed by the cuteness.
"Huh, you got all those permits and stuff for a teacher escort too?" Kaminari asked, surprised.
"Yeah, and I think that Mr. Aizawa's already waiting outside," he chuckled wearily, "so I'd better get going."
Their teacher's silhouette was barely visible from behind the door, but it wasn't hard to imagine how quickly his expression could turn from yawning to frowning. They all knew that making him wait would have been illogical .
The boy took a step before turning back to Kirishima. "Oh, and tell me how it goes, alright? See you tomorrow!" The redhead gave him a thumbs up, sending him off.
A small chorus of "Night!" followed him out as he waved at them with a smile.
Tsuyu felt Mina nudge her side. "Come on, let's go before our dinner gets cold!"
She ribbited approvingly, wasting just a second more to glance back at the greenette's head as he left.
Mina skipped out of the elevator, guiding the other seven girls to Yaomomo's room.
"Why did it have to be all the way to the end of the corridor?" Setsuna mumbled.
"Are the trays too heavy?" Shiozaki asked, raising a few strands of hair and offering to help in the carrying.
"Nah, I just like complaining," the lizard girl shrugged. "Thanks anyway."
"Now that I think about it, we could have used that room," Komori said, looking at the empty one in the middle of 1-A's side of the floor.
"I think it's used for ventilation or something," Kendo replied, "so it's not just empty space."
"Pity," Toru sighed.
"Come on! It's not marathon!" Pony encouraged them with a giggle.
On that, the blonde foreigner was right. Yaomomo's door was just a few meters away, surrounded by all manners of furniture: a bookcase filled to the brim by heavy tomes, a dressing table with an elegant mirror, a whitish wooden desk and matching chair, a wardrobe twice as large as the door, three old-looking paintings, and...
"Is that Yaomomo's entire bedframe, ribbit?" Tsu voiced their collective doubt as they all made a double take.
"Mattress must be inside," Pony said, seeing the absence of the most important piece.
"They really moved everything out," Komori thought aloud with a giggle.
"I forgot how lavish Yaomomo's stuff looked," Toru hummed as Mina moved to knock on the door.
"Coming!" they heard Ochaco's voice from the inside.
When the door opened, they took in the magnificent state of the room: the whole floor, apart from the tiny section right before the door, was covered in a mattress that was at least half a meter thick.
Mina had to repress the sudden urge jump on it, either to bounce off or sink into it. It looked so soft, yet bouncy. - Must. Resist. -
Momo, Kyoka, Kodai, and Yanagi were casually sitting or lying down.
"We bring you snacks!" Tokage yelled, bringing forth a few cheers.
"Come in! You may place them there and there. We've already laid down a cloth to keep stains away from the bedding," the heiress offered as the group moved to share the bounty of products.
"I have to say, Yaomomo, had we seen this kind of room during the competition I might have voted for you," Mina teased with a smirk.
"Oh. Simple is better, I suppose?" the other thought aloud, wondering.
"Liar," Ochaco pouted, "I didn't get any votes."
"Neither did Shoji," Kyoka pointed out, as the boy's room was even more barren.
"Neither did I, but such is the destiny of those who made an ascetic choice," Shiozaki asserted, imperturbable.
"At least you have some plants," Ochaco shook her head with a defeated smile.
As they all moved around to find comfortable sitting arrangements, enlarging their pillows with Yui's help, Kendo clapped her hands to get everybody's attention.
"Okay. Before we really begin, and not to bring down the mood later, we'll talk about the real reason why we're having a party."
"Mm, ominous," Yanagi commented.
"Um, there is no need to-" Yaomomo's words were interrupted by Tsuyu as she placed a finger before her.
"Shush, ribbit. It's 'taking care of Yaomomo' time now."
"What's the problem?" Kyoka asked with her brow furrowed.
"Yaomomo's under the weather 'cause she read some terrible comments about her performance in the Sports Festival," Ochaco explained, getting a full house of confused frowns in response.
"What'd you mean, 'terrible comments?!' She was the damn second place!" Mina exclaimed with more than a touch of anger in her tone.
"Yeah! She was incredible!" Toru added, her sleeves visibly shaking.
"Truly. Yaoyorozu was an example of talent, intelligence, and power. I cannot fathom what they might be concerned about," Shiozaki said, worried and containing her disdain. She didn't seem to hold any grudges over her defeat.
"M-My methods, mostly," Yaomomo spoke lightly.
"Stupid things," Ochaco replied, "by stupid people that don't know anything about her."
Tokage had taken her phone out after the first explanation and had apparently found one of the videos they were talking about, because she was scrolling through comments and getting increasingly pissed off. "Look at this stuff, it's all bullshit," she said as she threw the device to Mina, who was soon flanked by the others.
"What- But- The heck- Come on!" Toru and Komori cried out as they read, alternating exclamations and curses.
"I pity the fools who wrote such things," Yanagi grumbled, shaking her head in disgust.
Kyoka scowled at another line. "Oh wow, that's just plain sexist."
"And I think that one was Quirkist," Mina added, wanting to strangle the author.
Even Pony, who could barely follow the stream of words, heard enough to become furious.
"G-Girls, there's no need to-" Yaomomo, hands trembling, tried to stop their worrying again, with little success.
"There is." Kendo sat herself beside the heiress and caught Momo in a one-armed embrace, stroking her back, before turning to the group. "Can someone serve her some tea? I don't think she should be handling it right now, and it might warm her up and relax these tensed muscles."
"Please, allow me," Ibara pleaded, letting her vines carefully lifting the beautiful cups and pouring the dark, fragrant, steaming infusion.
Momo thanked the two before bringing the cup to her lips as she listened to her friends dismantling each and every malicious comment they could find.
Tsu waited for a few minutes before asking to summarize their opinions. "What's the final verdict, ribbit?"
"Complete and utter bullshit," Mina replied with a grunt.
"Nothing worth reading!" Toru underlined her sentence by punching the mattress.
" All idiots! " Pony spat with anger.
"See? Just like we told you," Ochaco smiled at the verbal display of what she was feeling inside.
"If she had it that bad, I can't imagine what they wrote about me," Komori huffed, being dejected since she had been the only one present not to make it to the third event.
"It's not the same," Tokage pointed out. "Those of us that didn't go too far didn't show as much. Less time under the spotlight means less chances for people to analyze you and get their shitty conclusions. I don't think we would find any comment about you here."
Komori sank further. "Which is just as bad."
The greenette realized her blunder and flew closer. "Kinoko, I didn't mean that! I just- At least you avoided this shitty circus!"
"Wait," Mina interjected, "there is more about us? Every one of us?"
Tokage stopped for a moment before grumbling. "Yeah. Nothing's worth reading anyway, it's all the same shit, more or less." The lizard girl talked like someone who had seen what had been written on her and had no desire to speak of it.
"Let's not continue this journey, please. The malice behind those comments already managed to make my skin crawl," Yanagi said, shaking lightly.
"I can guess it anyway," Kyoka huffed, rolling her eyes. "Weak Quirk..."
"Stupid plans..." Toru grumbled.
"Weird mutations..." Mina let out, making Tsu ribbit and Pony huff.
"Wait." Momo finally raised her voice, shaken by the news. "Those are- How could they say such horrible things about you?"
"People are dumb," Yui stated with a neutral glare, turning to Itsuka to confirm.
"Yeah," the redhead nodded. "A lot of people will say whatever they want just because they think they're protected by anonymity."
"But that's outrageous!" Yaomomo spoke with even more decision.
Tokage sneered. "Yeah. At least we'll get media training before the year's over."
"Yaomomo," Ochaco interjected, turning to the heiress, "are you getting mad only because of what they might have written on us?"
"Why wouldn't I?" the raven-haired girl replied.
"Because you were dejected by yours, not angry, ribbit," Tsu cut in.
Momo stopped for a moment, taken aback. She closed her eyes and sighed. "You shouldn't waste your time on my problems. This is why I didn't want to burden you all with the-"
"But you would do the same for us," Toru interjected.
"Yeah," Mina agreed. "I mean, you already have, too."
"And it's not 'wasting time' if you're helping a friend," Kendo tightened the hug as the group moved closer.
"As I said before, ribbit, you shouldn't apologize for being smart or strong," Tsuyu added. "Especially when you're putting your talents to good use, ribbit."
Yaomomo looked like she was beginning to agree, but she asked anyway. "What do you mean?"
"I think you know, ribbit. You're very intelligent, and your Quirk would make you incredibly rich. Richer than your parents are, I think, ribbit."
Mina didn't know just how wealthy the Yaoyorozus were, but she had seen Yaomomo make pretty much anything she wanted in a matter of seconds, so the idea seemed plausible to her.
"You would also make for a scary Villain," Tsu added to the general shock.
"Come on, Tsu, that's a bit..." Ochaco tried to intervene, but was stopped by Yanagi.
"It's true," the pale grey-haired girl concurred, raising her hand to stop their reactions and continue. "Most of us would. Our Quirks can be seen as a great gift, but if put into the service of evil they might appear as devilish cataclysms."
"Y-Yeah, we could be dangerous," Komori nodded shakily.
"Yes, ribbit, but Yaomomo has another point in her favor: She wouldn't have to worry about resources at all. She could arm an army by herself, and the only thing missing would be manpower, just because she can't produce living beings, ribbit."
Tsu had a point. A scary, terrible point that they'd rather not think about, but a point nonetheless. Realizing that her friend could possibly break the economy on a whim had come as quite a shock to Mina.
The frog girl was now directly in front of the heiress and had placer her hands around Momo's. "Yet, instead of just becoming filthy rich or a Villain, you choose to become a Hero, to make the world a better place. And I think that you should be proud of yourself for that choice, ribbit."
"You didn't take the easy way out," Tokage added, speaking with sentiment right beside the Tsuyu. "You rolled up your sleeves and got to work. Nobody can take that away from you."
"I..." Yaomomo started before stopping to sniff. She placed her cup to the side and moved forward to catch the two in a hug. "... Thank you."
"We're here for you whenever you need us," Ochaco said as she took a spot on her right.
"We gotta have each other's back on stuff like this," Toru stated, supported by several sounds of agreement.
The chat continued for a bit between compliment, encouragements, insults directed at stupid third parties, and a nice juxtaposition of tea and cookies, until Kendo received a message to go and get the rest of their dinner.
After the party sent on the fetch quest came back with the heavenly-smelling goods—which reminded Mina of how hungry she was—1-B's Representative called them all to attention once again.
"So, is everything ready?" Kendo asked, starting a last count of their provisions.
"Drinks, check!" Pony piped up, and Mina patted the few bottles she had carried.
"Snacks, check!" Komori raised her bowl.
"Chips, check, ribbit," Tsu spoke, less loudly.
"Cookies, check!" Toru tapped her glass container to make it ring.
"Pizzas, check!" Setsuna made two of the boxes spin.
"Salads, check," Shiozaki nodded, smiling a bit as she had managed to be part of the sketch.
"Movies, check!" Ochaco said as her and Kyoka lifted their choices.
"Pillows, check," Yanagi muttered before adding a "TV, check," as Yui hummed, showing the remote.
"Tea, cups, and plates, check, and already in use," Momo declared, elegantly pointing at the smaller stove closer to the entrance.
"Well then, I declare our first sleep over officially begun!" Kendo smiled, clapping her hands from dramatic effect.
"Let's goooo!" Mina cheered.
"So? So? Wasn't it just the best?" Toru asked as the credits started to roll. She let herself fall backward on her enlarged pillow before rolling on her stomach to look at the girls that hadn't shared the first row of "seats."
Most of the group had already seen the American animation, but they had all approved a rewatch to let the remaining five catch up.
"You know it!" Tokage piped up, raising a hand before being shushed by Kendo, since they wanted to listen to the answers of the newbies.
"Kyoka?" Mina questioned, starting from the one who had been the most diffident.
"I say you all should have sold it differently, 'cause I expected way worse," the punkette huffed. "How is it a 'princess movie'?"
"That's just how her kind of female protagonist is called, ribbit," Tsuyu replied as if she had heard that same argument before. "And that's why I said to focus on the action."
"Which was great too," Komori nodded, throwing a dried mushroom in her mouth.
Kyoka rolled her eyes but conceded to their point. "Fine, you're right. It was good."
"Ibara?" Toru asked, fearing the more sheltered girl might have different tastes.
"I found it quite enjoyable," Shiozaki nodded, smiling at her. "But I also understand why I've never seen it as a child. Some scenes were rather... explicit."
"Meh, it's still a movie for kids," Mina shrugged. "They can't, like, go into gory details."
"Ribbit, I remember my little sister having a nightmare about the villain once," Tsuyu nodded.
"How about you, Reiko?" Kendo asked her more thoughtful classmate.
"The heroine's choices were quite inspirational," Yanagi observed. "And I rather liked the darker tones of the second half. They set the mood for the conflict nicely."
"It was great! That girl destroyed an army and fought the barbarian boss almost by herself!" Ochaco commented, having quickly become a fan of the warrior princess.
" She kicked ass!" Pony nodded, punching the air excitedly.
"Her noble sacrifice to help her family was interesting, but I believe I really started to appreciate her after the training montage," Momo confessed.
"Yeah! And when she climbs the pole? Amazing," Mina followed.
"That was the best scene," Kendo said, followed by a hum by Yui. "I always get shivers watching it."
"Indeed," the heiress nodded. "It's a pity that most of her efforts were forgotten when her secret came to light."
"Eh, she got more balls than most men anyway," Tokage snickered, receiving a quick flick on her head and falling backwards dramatically and laughing it off.
"Talking about the montage, I didn't expect you all to sing along," Ibara pointed out, making the others either giggle or start to intone the refrain once again.
"The song's really catchy!" Toru remarked with a grin after they had finished the little reprise.
"I've listened to it far too many times, ribbit," Tsu shrugged.
"I liked it a lot as a kid," Kendo smiled at the nice memory.
"I know the lyrics in English!" Pony cheered.
"I just like singing," Komori grinned widely.
"Never thought that hearing a bunch of girls sing along to 'Be a man!' would be so entertaining," Kyoka huffed with a light shake of her head. "But the music wasn't bad."
"We got the punk's approval as well!" Tokage laughed, jokingly fighting against Kyoka's jacks.
"We should totally use it as background music during our next training," Toru proposed excitedly.
"Horn Buddy is gonna get a new favorite song," Mina laughed, as the boy was an advocate for everything "manly."
"I mean, with Torodoki we already have the strength of a raging fire there," Ochaco stifled a laugh at her own joke.
"We're just missing a coursing river and a great typhoon then," Kendo shook her head, playing along.
"And who should take the role of the dark side of the moon?" Momo asked with a hint of mirth.
"Eh, either Tokoyami or Reiko," Tokage said as one of her hands pointed at the gray-haired girl. "They're mysterious."
The ghostly girl smiled at the perceived compliment. "Thank you."
The girls shared another laugh before calling for a much-needed break, most of the group running to their own room's bath or to get a breath of fresh air.
Momo served a few coups of tea, appearing extremely content at Ibara's compliments for the taste of the expensive blend, while the rest moved the pizza boxes and other empty containers out of the way.
Once they were all back inside, Momo asked what they were to do next.
"Depends on what we'd like to do," Tokage shrugged as she relaxed.
"I believe it might still be too early for ghost stories," Yanagi sighed.
"It'll always be too early for that," Toru shivered a bit, joined in her refusal by Kyoka. She licked jump scares, but she wasn't the best at handling psychological horror.
"Some karaoke?" Komori proposed.
"I guess we could, but we don't know how much noise we might make," Kendo sighed, sorry to shoot down the idea.
"No worries, there's always next time," the mushroom girl accepted the excuse.
"Would you perhaps enjoy braiding each other's hair?" Ibara joined her hands and smiled. "I might not be able to receive any, but I'm quite skilled and capable of reproducing numerous styles."
"Oh! May we?" Momo lighted up at the offer, and Toru had to admit that her excitement was contagious. Most of the group approved of the choice.
"Sure," Kendo nodded, "let's make a circle. It'll make things easier."
"I'll just stay here then. Never done it, and my hair's too short anyway," Kyoka huffed, placing her pouf-like pillow against the wall.
"Mm," Yui huffed, joining the punkette in her isolation.
"Ribbit, are you sure? I could teach you. It's not that hard," Tsu offered, followed by a "I don't know either, so we could learn together," from Ochaco.
"Nah, don't worry. It just... isn't my thing, you know?" Kyoka shrugged. Toru thought that the girl's smile was a tad forced, but pushing didn't seem like the right thing to do.
"You're fine just watching, Yui?" Kendo asked, receiving a quick nod from the girl that had taken hostage the bowl filled with the remaining cherry tomatoes.
"Come on! That won't do!" Mina chided, crossing her arms with a slight pout. "We need something to include everybody!"
"Like what?" Komori questioned.
"A drinking game?" Pony said, making everybody turn abruptly towards her.
Tokage lost it, falling and laughing coarsely. Others were expressing various degrees of shock.
"T-Tsunotori!" Momo called. "We're underage!"
"Pony! Don't tell me~ You've already tried some booze?" Tokage, raising herself back up and wearing a shit-eating grin, gave a couple nudges to the equine girl.
"Uh... I plead the fifth?" the blonde muttered, her cheeks reddening a bit as she looked away.
"Wrong country," Yui deadpanned as Kendo sighed, facepalming.
"Beware the Nice Ones, ribbit," Tsuyu hummed.
"Come on guys, it's not the end of the world. My dad made me sip from his beer once," Ochaco said to lessen the attention on Pony. "Though he did say that mom shouldn't know."
"Ochaco! How scandalous," Mina teased as she sat behind Toru.
The brunette fake coughed and mumbled something about construction workers and bad influences in her defense.
"What were you going to propose, Pony?" Komori asked, still interested.
"Um..." The equine girl took a second to get her words in order. "Never played it, but I know the rules. I think it is called 'I have-' No. 'I never-' No ..." She quickly got frustrated and said the name in her mother tongue.
"'Never have I ever'?" Momo helpfully translated, becoming curious. "What does it entail?"
"Oh! I think I know!" Mina piped up. "Is it the one where, like, you make a statement about something you have never done, and everybody who has done it must drink?"
"That's it!" Pony nodded. "And if nobody does, you're the one who has to!"
"Sounds great to get to know each other better," Tokage commented, clearly liking the idea.
"Must I make you remember that we shouldn't touch alcoholic beverages until we're twenty?" Ibara gave them the stink eye.
Toru thought for a moment. "Can't we just use tea and snacks? We can't get drunk, but the game seems fun."
"I believe that might be for the best," Yanagi nodded.
"It doesn't sound so bad if you put it that way," Kendo commented, giving up on steering the conversation elsewhere. "How about it?"
"Why not," Kyoka shrugged as Yui nodded quietly.
"I believe that conversational games such as these may help us get to know each other better, so I don't see why we shouldn't," Momo agreed, failing to hide her excitement for such a new experience.
Seeing Mina's and Tokage's smirk, Toru had a couple of ideas about why they shouldn't... but she wouldn't be the one telling, oh no.
Ochaco and Tsuyu also gave their approval, making everybody turn toward Ibara.
The vine-haired girl took a moment to think, but ultimately relaxed. "Alright, in this case I agree. Just stay withing reasonable limits, please."
The group cheered before moving on with the preparations for both the game and the braiding. Soon everybody had ten snacks on their plate and someone before and behind them. Although somebody could have probably braided Ibara's vines safely by wearing gloves, the girl refused the offer to leave the circle open so that Kyoka and Kodai wouldn't feel excluded. Itsuka confessed to not being great at doing anything beside the very basics, so she remained on the other end, near Yui.
Toru was happy that Mina had chosen to braid her. She understood that handling her invisible locks could be really frustrating, but she also knew that the pinkette wasn't one to simply give up because something was hard. Studying was an exception, but she was in the clear for this.
"So the last one to keep their snacks wins?" Ochaco asked.
"I don't think it's really about winning," Tokage chuckled with a sly grin. "It's more about bonding, drinking, and sharing interesting secrets."
"Or about whoever is still up after that many shots," Kyoka commented, mimicking a shaky collapse before showing a thumbs down.
"Since we aren't looking to get drunk, let's just go with that," Kendo said.
"Nah, let's do the opposite!" Mina proposed, her eyes full of mischief. "The one who ends up with no snacks first wins!"
"I like the way you think, Pinky," the lizard girl said, all smiles and secondary motives.
"You're just saying that so you can get the juiciest gossip, ribbit," Tsuyu gave the pinkette a "I know you" look.
"What? Scared?" Mina smirked.
The frog girl shrugged. "No, ribbit. I can't wait to win."
"We'll see~"
"A competition!" Pony rejoiced.
"Sounds fun, let's do that," Komori giggled.
Most of them still had no idea what the others' limits were—apart from a couple of suppositions on extreme cases like Mina, Tokage, and Ibara— and it seemed like the perfect occasion to see them.
"So, you want to say something nobody else has ever done..." Momo recapped.
"And hope that you have already done what the others might say," Yanagi added with a nod.
"Okay, I think we're ready," Mina, self-proclaimed game master, commented. "Just remember: don't lie, or you'll be unlucky for a week!"
Yanagi tilted her head at the prospect of such a silly curse.
"And no impossible stuff, 'cause that's no fun!" Pony added.
"Oh, one last thing," Kendo interjected. "I think we could start calling each other by name. I mean, some of us already are, and it seems just a 1-A, 1-B separation at this point."
"Yeah, I noticed that too," Ochaco confirmed.
"We are already spending most of our free time as a group," Yanagi nodded.
"And Heroics classes as well, ribbit," Tsuyu added.
"All in favor?" Momo asked with a smile, receiving unanimous words of approval in response.
"Well then, let's start!" Mina commanded. "Ochaco, you're the youngest! The floor's yours!"
"Me?!" The brunette was taken aback by being called out as first, stuttering a bit to find something worth sharing. "Uh... Never have I ever... flown on a plane?"
"Is that a statement or a question, ribbit?"
"Come ooon," the gravity girl complained, making Tsu and the other giggle.
"Sorry Ochaco, but that was too easy," Itsuka offered her pity as she ate a cookie.
"Indeed," Momo added, doing the same together with most of them, bar Ibara and Kinoko. "Should we continue clockwise around the circle?"
"Sure," Mina agreed, "Tsu, it's your turn."
"Never have I ever had a boyfriend," the frog girl said, her face an unreadable mask, making the others make a double take and then either redden, freeze, or chuckle.
Setsuna whistled. "Damn, Tsu's taken out the big guns already."
"Lets me know what I'm working with early on, ribbit," Tsuyu stated as if she already had the entire event planned out.
"Why did I tell you that I have yet to find love?" Mina whispered as she pouted.
"You tend to overshare," Kyoka offered, making the pink-skinned girl let out a dramatic wail.
"No takers?" the girl croaked, this time with a hint of smugness as she moved her hand toward her plate.
"Woah there, I never said that," the lizard girl grinned. "I did for a while in middle school."
"Me too," Itsuka sighed, taking a candy.
"Mm," Yui hummed, eating a tomato without showing any emotion.
"Oh oh! You sly girls," Kinoko teased. "Care to elaborate?"
"W-Was that in the rules?" the redhead stuttered, surprised.
"Nah, but we might just as well make it," Mina joined Kinoko in her prodding. "We gotta be sure you ain't lying, capiche?"
Tsu huffed. "Mina's terrible acting aside-" "Hey!" "-I'm curious too, ribbit."
"Huh, wait a sec," Ochaco interjected, having noticed that she wasn't the only one unsure about sharing whatever. "If we're gonna do that... Could we promise each other that everything we say won't leave this room?"
"That might be for the best, yes," Reiko agreed, receiving a grateful look from the brunette. "I deem you all worthy of my trust, but I believe that a pact might relieve us from any residual fear."
"I'd be down for that," Kyoka said, convinced.
"Certainly. We should do anything in our power to make us all feel safer," Momo stated caringly.
"But let's still keep the option of an out, in case someone really doesn't want to share," Toru proposed, being met with accepting hums.
"Alright sisters! No sharing and no teasing about this stuff in front of anybody else!" Mina sealed the deal, making each member of the group confirm their approval before moving on.
"Never thought we'd start a sorority tonight," Itsuka chuckled.
"Now that that's done, spill it!" Kinoko turned to her classmates for answers.
"Nothing big," the lizard girl shrugged, "I just had two guys back in middle school for a while."
"TWO?!" Ibara shocked voice echoed before anybody else could react.
"Not at once!" Setsuna shot back, acting offended before going back to smirking. "Though there wouldn't have been nothing wrong with that either~"
Toru wasn't the only one to gulp at the idea.
"Last year I went on a couple of dates with a guy that used to train in my family's dojo," Itsuka interjected before the argument could turn ugly.
"One guy. Ended fast." Yui offered, her expression remaining stony all the while.
"Mm, alright, ribbit. That's a point for you three," Tsu said, shifting the focus back to the game itself.
"We're outclassed," Ochaco mumbled, probably dreading statements on the same topic.
"Oh Lord, give me strength," Ibara sighed, thought Toru noticed that she seemed relieved since the conversation hadn't gone fully obscene yet. But, knowing who was next, her hope would be shattered soon enough.
"My turn!" Setsuna raised her voice, making Pony flinch a bit at the volume. "Never have I ever seen someone completely naked!" she stated before adding a quick, "Other than myself, obviously."
Now it became clear to all that the lizard girl was out for blood... or very juicy gossip at least.
Ibara and Ochaco both let out a chocked squeal while eyes darted all around in search of who would dare make a move.
Surprisingly enough, the first one to reach for her plate and break the silence was Momo. She took her snack as if it was the most natural thing, only stopping to look up at the dozen staring girls after she had already placed it in her mouth.
"Why am I the only one eating? Did I do something wrong?" the black-haired girl asked as she took in the astonishment direct at her.
"Yaomomo!" Mina squealed. "When?! Where?! How many times?! Deets, now!"
The heiress blinked at the sudden interrogation before giving the pinkette a questioning look.
"Um, today? Here in the dorm?" she said, sounding unsure as if she didn't understand the need for such answers. "Though I'm not sure if I could tell you the precise number even if I wanted to."
Toru was sure she wasn't the only one whose imagination was running wild, but she just couldn't picture the prim and proper Momo Yaoyorozu being this... promiscuous?
"Wait, ribbit," Tsu interrupted their wondering. "Could you tell us who you're talking about-"
"I-If that's not too much!" Ochaco interjected, hiding her face behind her hands.
"Yes, ribbit."
"Why would it?" Momo asked, still unsure. "We have all see each other in the nude during our bathing times at least once, have we not?"
Silence reigned once again for a few moments before all hell broke loose. Almost every single one of girls fell back on their pillows and held her stomach as they all burst out laughing, the only exceptions being Yui, who merely smiled, Momo, who didn't get what was so funny, and Setsuna, who had gone still at the realization before groaning loudly. Even the more composed Tsuyu, Reiko, and Ibara didn't hold it in, though their outbursts were comparatively more contained.
"She got you, Set," Itsuka managed to speak through her chuckles. "We've all done that now."
"T-That's cheating, dammit," the lizard girl complained weakly, although she knew that she wouldn't win that discussion.
"As you have not specified anything more in your statement, I believe that Yaomomo is indeed in the right," Reiko nodded as she reined in her giggles.
The black-haired beauty looked sorry as she tried to excuse herself to the greenette. "I am sorry Setsuna, but I thought-"
"Nah, you're fine Yaomomo," the lizard girl interjected, sighing as she looked back up. "That's on me for being a dumb bitch."
"Hey, don't talk about my friend like that," Itsuka huffed, chopping Setsuna's head lightly with her enlarged hand.
"Just saying I should've thought about it more," she rolled her eyes.
"Eh, everybody makes dumb mistakes," Kyoka shrugged, "you got this one, someone else will make the next one."
"Thanks, Crampy."
Kyoka's look turned sour. "Really? That's my nickname?"
"Hey, I felt like I was dying back there!" Setsuna exclaimed. "So, yeah, for now you're Crampy."
"Oh, you're so gonna get it next time," the punkette growled back, the two exchanging challenging looks.
"Leave the training stuff out of here, ribbit," Tsuyu asked, closing the argument.
"A-And maybe just stick to something less vague next time," Ochaco provided, trying to be supportive.
"Grasp all, lose all," Ibara said, probably seeing some poetic justice in the event.
"You just wait until it's my turn again," Setsuna glared with a devilish smirk.
" If we get to your turn again," Kinoko pointed out mischievously.
"Unlikely at this pace, ribbit," Tsu said, evoking another grunt from her fellow greenette.
"Points for everyone!" Pony cheered, being joined by the rest as they each scored a point. "Who's next?"
Notes:
Me: Alright, let's write around 5k words of Comfort anf Fluff.
Also me: Spends 3 weeks on it and ends up with 19k.
Things got a bit out of hand... Win, I guess?
So, yeah, next two chapters are more of the same. I wanted to publish them closely with the second one on Sunday, but I don't have enough backup chapters for that. I guess that I'll be sticking to the weekly release.
I hope this was fun. I wanted to do something light hearted after the little talk on Momo and I couldn't let this chance go.
There will be a bit of progress on the romance side of things as well here... (but nothing Explicit here)
This chapters are inspired "Sleepover Curiosities" by Mimisaka. It's a very, very good fic with a 1-A Girls/Izuku Poly. Character heavy focus, plenty of fluff mixed in with some angst and plenty of lemons, canon divergent. Check it out if you're looking for something to get invested in!
