Wake up Call

Rose at my side looked around, the world around us stayed as if nothing has happened this still throw us off.

It took me a while to get used to it when I got this power, it's not like you got headaches or became dizzy… it was the lack of any reaction what troubled us… I remember when I was transferred to and from the pocket dimension, and Rose also changes realms from time to time, the responses of our bodies went from painful all the way to the sensation of an elevator going down, but it was never this smooth even when I used time distortion before never felt this smooth…

"I can't get used to it… it's… different?"

"Yeah me either…"

"I'll be right back."

Rose released my hand and went forward to open the door, I didn't want to risk delaying our back more, so I waited for her outside.

As I waited for her, I raised my gaze to the northeast where I could see the permanent dust storm swirling since it was created that day.

After the war ended, we had to keep an eye on the storm, even now we have scouts continually looking at it. Dr. Harting has a plan ready to evacuate Green Shelter and Travel to the north if something happens.

Luckily right now, besides the storm, there were no other sources for us to worry. The NDR and none of the Alphas were here anymore. Without them, there was no real threat to Green Shelter and thanks to that the last two weeks have been entirely different from how it was before.

That didn't mean that other beast didn't appear to replace the ones that left. Blackie, how we decided to call the black sheep (Rose's idea), took over the remains of the Alpha cow's army, and since they "lost" the war, he asked for a truce with Green Shelter with Pinky as an intermediary, he might be an ally but they trust him more than us…

The storm was the limit of the farmlands, as long as they don't get inside the city area we can't hunt them, in exchange, Blackie gave us some of his normal cows and chickens to get milk and eggs. We are not allowed to kill them for meat and Pinky is in charge as a neutral party to be sure that it didn't happen.

In the case that one of his beasts appears in the city area is likely that it went rogue, with their numbers it was impossible for Blackie to control them all so we could hunt those that didn't obey his rules.

About the Swamp, because of the fire, the beasts had to run away deeper, and we had no information about it. We think that since there were some D-Ranks left in the group one of them might have taken over the group. In any case, no one has seen anything weird there for now.

The door of the house opened again, and Rose appeared holding a bag.

"Did you get everything? the bag looks small…"

"I just brought the most important for now it would take a while to gather everything, and we can come any time now."

"Sure."

I took the bag from her hands, and it disappeared in the air.

"Ready?"

I grabbed her hand, and after I saw her nod, we started to walk to the south entrance. The space around us folded again, and we leisurely took a few steps.

After what happened Green Shelter suffered significant changes.

Even if we can enjoy a time of peace, we had to pay a considerable cost.

We lost more than half of the people that went there that day, and most of the survivors were people that were hurt during the battle and had to leave the battlefield ahead of time. Some had to leave the hunting teams due to the injuries putting us in a terrible spot during those first days.

The hunting team had slimmed down, but the courage was imprinted on everyone's mind, those that came back and those that survive were heroes in their minds. Some people motivated by this decide to stop hiding.

A week after the fight, new recruits appeared, most of them took jobs as law enforcers due to their lack of Esper abilities, but those that were braver joined the ranks of the hunting teams. When this happened, together with Milo and Blake we took two decisions.

First, was the improvement of the long-range weapons. Since they weren't Espers, they needed a safe way to fight the beasts when the situation arises, with the investigation about solar cells and repaired batteries, the MRGR finally reappeared. They were still limited for the better snipers to use, but the recovery of the technology was a huge leap.

The second one was training, as soon as a recruit appears, he receives a two days course about ways to fight and tactics, and then there was the daily training where group and specializations were the two most common, but once a week a large-scale war training was performed by everyone.

The individual capabilities of the current hunters weren't at the same level as the previous generation, but they could put a good fight as a group thanks to the tactics that were taught.

We took the last few steps after leaving her home and appeared in front of the south gate.

The wall was as tall as a four-story building. To finish it fast and with the highest quality possible the hospital was put on hold until they ended it.

The infiltration before the last battle was a wake up call for the people, they started to work together. And the number of people on construction increased suddenly, that brought some troubles to other areas as they lost some of their people for a couple of days, but it was something that needed to be done fast for the peace of mind of the civilians.

"Halt!!"

As we appeared in front of the door unexpectedly, the law enforcers were shaken. Some guns were pointing at us. One of them looked and recognized us.

"Open the door!!!"

The door slowly opened as they put down their weapons. That was a good reaction.

The captain of the guards greeted us when we entered the outer circle.

"Mr. Davies, Miss Hunter, Welcome back."

I don't remember this guy's name…

"Hey captain, how is everything going?"

"No report of attacks in any area of the wall, team 4 defeated a roaming beast at the south there is nothing else to report, sir!... The beast was a …"

It was a casual question, but the guy started to give me details about the beast they brought… I should run before he tries to show me the log book.

"Keep the good work, I gotta go."

"Have a nice day Mr. Davies… Miss Hunter."

He made a slight bow to us as we walked away, and I could hear the captain sigh…

"Captain, who are they?"

"The guy is one of the leaders of the hunting teams and the girl if his girlfriend…"

"She seems cute."

"Don't even think about it… have you heard that during the last battles there was actually a second army ready to attack us?"

"I thought it was just a rumor, they never appeared."

"Yeah, they never appear…. Because those two defeated them before anything happened…"

"WHAT!!..."

It was weird hearing people talking about us, but after some days I got used to it, most of the survivors of the east battle were brought to the spotlight, so it wasn't that weird. I could hear them talking about us as we went towards the inner gate.

The inner gate was a lot laxer since people crossed it the whole day. It didn't take us long to get into the apartment. It was the middle of the morning, so Gerhard has to go to work soon.

"Hey, early birds. What are you guys doing outside?"

"We went out for a little walk."

"Really? So early?... you are weird if I didn't need to work I would stay in bed."

I could notice… he knew that there was something off. Rose talked at that moment.

"We went home to get some clothes…. with his new ability it's easy to move around fast."

"Oooh…"

Layered truth… that was the method that Rose thought of when she needs to hide something…

I could see that he wanted to ask more about it, but Hope appeared.

"Hey, did you brought me what I asked?"

"Of course…"

A bag different from the one that Rose gave me at her house appeared on my hand, and I passed it to my sister. The second bag also appeared and G recognized as one belonging to Rose.

"You knew they were going for clothes?"

"Yeah… Rose come help me with something."

She grabbed Rose by the arm smiling and her eyes filled with curiosity as she took her away.

"What's up with those two?"
