Escape, Fast!

When I walked in to find my husband in our matrimonial bed with his secretary, I knew it was over.

The pain in my heart was earth-shattering!

"Ah!" the stupid chit said, trying to withdraw from Patrick when she saw me.

"What was that?" The surprise in his tone as he turned round, soon became a sneer. "Oh, it's just her."

Yes, I thought. Only me, your wife of two years and lover for nearly five years!

Was it my lack of children that made his attitude change towards me? No, he became like this right from the wedding night.

Now I know that deciding to marry him was the biggest mistake of my life.

I had to avoid making an even bigger mistake - letting him know I was pregnant. He must suspect nothing!

"I'm sorry," i told the two bastards meekly. "I'll go and make dinner now."

"Yes, you do that," he humphed. The girl, who had been inching away from him, he dragged straight back between the blankets. Good for her, I thought. Sex with him had never been too good or too bad, but lately it was as if something possessed him. He was rougher, violent and was not so satisfied easily.

A part of me was happy when he began taking other women.

Now, if only he would not hit me too.

I ran to the kitchen and locked it from inside. Sometimes he would take his women out there, then come find me and force me. I suspect this child is the product of the last encounter between us.

He won't ever have a chance to harm my baby! I won't let him!

I prepared a dish of roast chicken, with potatoes, vegetables and some creamy soup. Just the way he liked it.

Then I added as much of Grandma's special recipe as I could. Bless her soul, she used to tell me:

Men are unpredictable and can change at any fucking time. If you need your man out of the way for a few hours, use this recipe. If you use too much, he might die, so only do that if you can get away with it!

I knew I couldn't get away with killing Patrick! I'd be the first suspect! Some sleep for some hours though?? Nothing suspicious at all!

I took the meal and served that adulterous husband and his useless chit. They were laughing and kissing, probably just finishing a hot session. Or going in for a new one perhaps!

"The meal lacks just one thing!" He said after tasting the food.

I was frightened. Had he tasted the sleeping medicine? I came closer and - wham!

He had thrown the glass cup straight on my face! "There! Some blood and tears to season it!'

I was too shocked to even cry out in pain. It was the secretary who screamed.

"Shut up!" He said, backhanding her as well.

I took a broom and packed the broken pieces.

I hated being reminded of it everyday, how I gave up a promising career to marry Patrick. I thought he was my best friend. I thought he was kind and sweet and would not betray me. He hit me for the first time the morning after the wedding. I knew I should have left then. But I stayed because I still loved him. For two years I tried to conceive, hoping that news of a baby would end our problems.

But no more. Not anymore. All my affection for him had vanished. As he grew more famous in his music career, establishing his own label, he made sure to pose himself as such a good person - humble, generous. All lies! In the first few months we married, they used to say to me, "Oh you're Lucky to have a husband like him!"

Oh, I don't care now. Let them have him!

I waited until I heard his soft snores coming from the room.

What he did not know, was that I had secretly made a copy of the key to every door in his house. Including his safe room.

I went straight there and opened the door to the safe.

There was plenty of jewellery. I ignored that and went to take as much cash as I wanted.

I was happy to see that I got about $100 000. After all, it was his fault I had to do this.

He forced me to quit working and monitored all my transactions. I dared not pay for anything big without his permission!

Now, to put the second part of my plan into action.
