Chapter 18

The view from the top of the tower is breathtaking. The wind whips our hair about and the temperature seems to have dropped several degrees. Paris is a sea of green and various shades of white. The ornate buildings and the parks look like one gigantic piece of geometric art. The Seine is a giant python, twisting its way through the city and I can even see the white domed Basilique du Sacre-Coeur on Montmartre.

Brenton leans over the railing, causing my heart to skip several beats. “It sure is a long way to fall.”

I grab him and playfully pull him back. I’m not a fan of heights.

“I think I’ve seen enough,” I say and we wait once more for the lift to arrive.

Back on the ground, we walk across the grass towards the Avenue Gustave Eiffel and after crossing we happen upon a small café. I sit at a table by the door while Brenton orders coffee and something else that turns out to be the most divine little cakes I’ve ever tasted.
