The night at the palace was one of the best I'd ever had. The room was incredibly comfortable, and I felt safe within its walls.
I was in the most protected city in the kingdom, inside the palace itself. The sense of security was otherworldly.
In the morning, we were treated to a hearty breakfast with a wide variety of foods. One of the palace maids came to invite us to the dining hall.
At the breakfast table, I spoke with the commander again.
"I've already sent some people after that creature summoned by the shaman," he reported. "And I'll do my best to find out if other tribes are planning something similar."
This was reassuring and showed that the commander was a man of action. But I suspected there was another motive: he wanted to impress me and recruit me into the army.
Honestly, the idea of joining the army, gaining access to resources, and having a good environment to practice my skills was appealing.
