Chapter 6
“Steps,” says Ak, as if we hadn’t encountered them on our arrival. Then a door is opened and chaos nearly throws us from atop Bill’s head. Lights flash, big rolling things rush by while people hurry along, all of it a force field similar to one we found between stars in a distant galaxy. Noise hits us, too, and noise is new. Earth is a noisy planet and, being entities, we absorb this to such extent that Bill must feel it, because he runs a hand through his hair. Ak slides down onto his shoulder, but quickly comes back up. We must learn to absorb more steadily.
