Chapter 61

"I can handle Liam," i interrupted, forcing a small smile to my lips. "He's not as scary as he likes to think he is."

He studied me for a moment longer, his brow creased. Then, without another word, he gestured for her to follow him.

The drive to the café felt like a lifetime. The afternoon sun hung low in the sky, casting golden light across the city as i and Michael made our way to the café where I'd arranged to meet Liam. This was a place i hadn't returned to in years—one of the places where i and Liam had once laughed together, dreamed together. But today, those memories felt like they belonged to someone else entirely.

Michael noticed my hesitation as we neared the door. "You don't have to do this, you know," he said softly, glancing at me. "If you're not ready, I can talk to him alone."
