Kione made his way to the town's bell tower. It was a tall building, which made it possible for a person to oversee what the villagers were doing from above.

From where he stood, he watched the scenes unfold as two councilmen and a guard barged into one of the houses and dragged a woman and her child out of the house. "Please spare me and my child. We did nothing wrong." The woman's pleas fell on deaf ears.

"Shut up, woman! Or do I say witch?" The guard kicked her hard around her abdomen, causing the woman to yelp in pain, with a silent hiss following shortly.

The child, who could not have been more than five, cried along with her mother as she was dragged, making sniffling sounds in the process.

"What did she do?" One of the townswomen inquired of another.

"I heard she's a witch." Whispered the other in response, causing the woman who asked the question to gasp in shock.

"She has been the one killing our animals." Another villager in the crowd accused.
