Chapter 10
After Cassius finished drawing blood from her, he left the tower for the court house. As she sat there, her mind wandered back to the discussion she had with Maggie about Cassius.
Cassius had caught a mermaid last month. The thought alone sent shivers down her spine. Does this mean he was a mermaid hunter? What would happen if he discovers her identity? Would he also kill her?
Anastasia shook her head, trying to push away the disturbing thoughts. Not that she was going to stay here forever. She needed to find a way to escape before Cassius discovers her secret.
Standing up from the chair, she walked towards the window to see Cassius talking to a man. They looked like they were arguing and at the same time, they looked calm. Who was that man?
As if sensing her gaze, he raised his head and stared at her briefly. He was dressed in expensive clothing just like Cassius but he seemed more arrogant.
The man walked away, and she saw Cassius enter the carriage before it took off. When she raised her head again, she didn't see the man. She continued to look down, wondering who the man is.
"Looking for someone?" She heard a voice behind and when she turned around, she saw Maggie standing there.
"Nothing," she replied, shaking her head.
"I brought you some snacks," Maggi said.
Anastasia chuckled. "I just had breakfast a while ago."
"You can keep it for later," Maggie said.
"Thank you. Keep it in the cupboard," Anastasia said before returning her gaze back to the window, and she saw the same man staring at her intently. His brows were furrowed and his lips were set in a straight line. Who was this man?
"Maggie," she called out for the maid to quickly rush to her side. "Who is he?"
"Ohh," Maggie smiled. "He is Lucas, the supposed heir to the throne before King Darius died."
Anastasia knows nothing about the court politics. While other girls would try to win the heart of men in court, she was at home with her mother. Sometimes, her mother would force her to go places with her just for Anastasia to know the men but she wasn't interested in men.
Her only problem here is that the vampires are having knowledge about the mermaids' creatures. If she were to escape, how would she survive in a world full of vampires?
She just has to make sure no one knows of her true identity. One wrong move, and she would be doomed.
"I will be taking my leave now," Maggie bowed her head before turning around and left.
Anastasia, who continued to stand by the window, picked a book, and sat down on the sofa to read. Later that evening after Anastasia had her breakfast, she waited for Cassius to return before she would take her bath.
After sitting down for more than an hour, Anastasia stood up, and walked towards the window. She scanned the surroundings and when she didn't catch any trace of Cassius, she decided to take her bath before going to bed.
She removed her hair pins, and ribbons. She then started to undress, and allow her gown to fall to the floor. Walking towards the entrance of the bathroom, Anastasia was about to step in when she heard the door open, and she turned around to see Cassius standing there.
Her eyes widened with disbelief and she quickly ran inside the bathroom, causing her to kick the tub and fall in it.
"AHH!" She screamed, trying to get up. She had been waiting for him for hours and he didn't come. So why did it have to be now that he came? Why?
"What are you doing here?" She asked, pushing the door closed.
She huffed angrily as she tried to calm herself down. But no….. he had seen her nakedness. Something no man was supposed to see until she died. But now he had a clear view of her bare body.
She shook her head not wanting to think about what happened earlier.
"Remember I'm the one who put you here," he replied. "I can come anytime and whenever I want."
She huffed, her face burning red with anger. "No man should have seen my nakedness."
He chuckled. "I'm not just any man, Anastasia. I'm the Prince of Blackwood Kingdom. So why do you think there is something special about your body? I've seen far more nakedness of women with intriguing bodies than you."
She narrowed her eyes. "In your dreams."
"Ohh Anastasia," he chuckled.
"You should leave," she said.
"I'm starving," he said. "I came here for your blood."
She ran her fingers through her hair as she poured the water above her head. She had planned to stay longer in the bathtub but after what happened just now, her mood dampened.
After bathing, she stepped out of the bathroom, dressed in a black lingerie.
"You couldn't even apologize," she narrowed her eyes.
"Apologize for what?" He scoffed. "For seeing your body? I mean you could have undressed in the bathroom when you know I walk in and out of here anytime I want."
"So rude," she said, wrapping the towel around her hair to dry. As she stared at her reflection through the mirror, she noticed she was getting pale. How many days does she have left till she dies?
And how would she be able to cope with Cassius trying to annoy her everyday? She could die from his torment.
After she was done drying her hair, she stood up from the chair and walked towards him. Standing inches away from him, she pushed her hair to the side, her eyes locked with his. She took out the bandage, leaving her neck exposed, and she tilted her head to give him easy access to draw her blood.
"Go on," she urged, closing her eyes as she waited for him. When she didn't feel his fangs for a few seconds, she opened her eyes to see him laughing.
"What?"
"So you really think I would continue sucking blood from the same spot everyday?" He scoffed.
"So?"
"I need to draw blood from another spot," he smirked.
She narrowed her eyes, frowning.
"Give me your wrist," he said.
