Chapter 147

RATE AND REVIEW

MAYA'S POV...

I yawned sleepily as I got down from the bed before saying my morning prayers and arranging my bed.

I walked to my cupboard and took out a towel before leaving my room to the bathroom everyone in the house shared and by everyone, I meant myself, my mum, my sister, Lilly, my brother, christian, my cousin, Ella and my dad, Justin.

I showered before going to my room to change. Good thing it was a Friday and I wouldn't be going to work.

" Shoot" I cursed after remembering I had to fill in for Raquel. She had just delivered and she couldn't deliver and I'd seen a document of how much money the company was losing so I knew hiring another employee and still paying Raquel would cut into the company's budget and I had to help.

I quickly tied my hair up in a ponytail and changed into a skirt and a top. I put on my shoes before heading downstairs.

" Morning mum" I greeted as I walked over to the refrigerator to get an apple but I was surprised to see that there were no apples. " Where are the apples mum?" I asked.

" I'm afraid we've run out of fruits" she said as she arranged the dining table.

" Why not buy from the grocery store? " I asked as I poured a glass of water for myself.

" Are you seriously asking me that question Maya? " Mum asked " you know how hard things are and you're asking of apples"

I sighed as I walked over to the dining table.

" You're right mum, I'm just so tired and hungry. Where's Lilly? " I asked as I went back to my room to pick up my bag.

" She'll be down soon" mum said and I walked into my room.

I sighed as I collapsed on my bed. My mind was on how to make enough money to cover family expenses. My mum had a little shop downtown where she baked cookies and cakes for sale. My elder brother Christian worked at a junk store where he barely earned enough to cover his schooling and feeding so we couldn't really rely on his salary. My cousin Ella was the only surviving victim in a car accident that claimed the lives of her parents two years ago so she had to stay with us because she wasn't old enough to stay alone. She was only fourteen after all.

Now Justin, my dad was sick. He was suffering from a stroke and most of our resources were spent on him, we couldn't lose our dad after all.

From this, one could really tell that we really needed help but one thing we still had was our dignity and that was what prevented us from going around, asking for money.

Everyone in the family depended on me for our bills and I knew I had to work hard to make enough money for everything.

I got off the bed and held my head like it'd fall if I didn't hold on to it. How could I have forgotten? I only worked Mondays through Thursdays at Rayna's love and the weekends, I spent them at a beauty salon across the street where I worked from morning till night to earn extra cash.

" Maya" I heard mum call and I took my purse and rushed downstairs.

" Morning sis" Lilly smiled at me.

" How are you Lilly?" I asked as I watched her pack her bags.

" I'm fine. Mum said you'll be taking me to school today"

" Yeah. Have you had breakfast?" I asked.

" No. Mum said to ask you for money when we got out" she said and carried her back pack

" Seriously mum? You told her to ask me for money when we got out? Do you think I have enough money on me? " I asked. The last cash I had on me was for the bus and mum sent Lilly to me for money. Good thing she'd bluffed now, else... She'd have gone to school on an empty stomach.

" I'm sorry Maya, we ran out of groceries so I couldn't prepare anything and i don't have money on me" she said and I hissed softly.

" Come on lilly, let's go" I said and left with Lilly.

" Maya, what am I gonna have for breakfast and lunch" Lilly asked me as we waited to board a cab.

" I don't know Lilly. Let me think" I said as we continued to wait.

I kept on thinking of what to do when I felt Lilly pulling my hands.

" Tell me Maya, I'm hungry" she said and continued to bother me.

" Let me be" I yelled in anger and frustration. '' do you think it's that easy to earn money? I don't have money on me Lilly, do you get it or you want it in writing? I don't have money" I yelled in frustration.

" But...." I hissed In frustration. Maybe I'd overreacted when I yelled at her.

 I squatted so that I was he height, " I'm sorry Lilly. I didn't mean to. It's just that I.."

" It's alright Maya, I know what you're going through so don't explain yourself" she said with a smile on her face and I embraced her.

I wished I had enough on me, I loved my sister and I wished I could prove it to her physically and not only emotionally.

" I have an idea" I told her.

" What is it? " She asked.

" Hop on my back" I said and carried her on my back

" What are you doing Maya? " She asked.

" We'll walk you to school and then you'll keep the transport for your feeding. How about that? " I asked.

" Won't....... "

" You don't have to carry anyone.... Maya" I heard that voice say and I felt shivers run down my spine. Only one person's voice had that effect on me..... Mr Raymond.

I turned to see him looking charming and hot in his dark blue suit.

" G... Good morning sir" I stuttered and I cursed my body. Why did it always let Mr Raymond have such an effect on me everytime he was around?

" What do you think you're doing carrying a six year old girl on your back to school?" He asked and I gulped. I couldn't go telling my boss of our problems.

" I... I"

" She doesn't have any money. All our money goes to daddy's treatment so she's gonna carry me to school to save the money for my feeding" lilly said and I bowed my head in shame.

" Is this true Maya? " He asked.

" Y... Yes sir" I managed to say, my head bowed in shame.

" And why am I just learning of it? " He asked.

" I... I'm sorry sir"

" Come on, get into my car. I'll get her food and drop her off at school'' he said and led us to his car.

" Are we seriously going in that car?" Lilly asked. " Whoa!! That's the most beautiful car I've ever seen" she exclaimed as she got down my back and rushed into the car.

" It smells so nice"

" Do you need an invite to get in?" He asked coldly as he got into the driver's seat.

" No sir" I said and rushed into the car.

He ignited the engine and drove off while I watched him drive and gosh, he looked hotter while driving and I cursed myself for falling for my boss.
