Barnock "They're still coming!" he shouts while swinging his axe at a ghost ahead of the rest, trying to touch his face.
The axe-head passes through its ephemeral body, but even if it doesn't take any physical damage, the weapon had still been divinely enchanted.
"AHHHHHHHH-" *POOF*
A line of white follows the trail the axe had made through its body, getting larger before eventually splitting the ghost in two, their body disappearing into a burst of smoke.
Barnock laughs as he raises it again, "Hahaha! These enchantments are great!" he shouts as he swings at another ghost.
Tyrael's blade is also quite able to deal with the ghosts, their confused looks when his sword bisects them with ease was truly the most amusing thing about this situation.
Mathias began firing the Disintegration Beam down the hallway, the staff's Divine enchantment enhanced the spell, allowing it to kill many, many ghosts in its wake... But, even with all their efforts combined, the amount seemed to be never-ending.
Quennie's spell were not as effective as she'd hope... She was able to take control of some of the ghosts, but they were individually too weak to actually be of any help, add the fact that they were in the area of effect of the groups spells meant that her necromancy was basically useless here.
Not only that, but her Chaos Flames, while effective, were easily bypassed by the Ghosts simply flying over it. She could still shoot the flames directly at the ghosts, but it wouldn't be as effective as Mathias Disintegration Beam.
Selina had apparently had enough of all this however, raising her hand and imagining everything that brought her happiness in this world... Spending time with her parents and sister, other family like Uncle Solaire and Grandpa Vesemir, Uncle Geralt and Auntie Yennefer... The thoughts of happiness were slightly suppressed by the presence of the army of ghosts, but she continued and eventually a shining white light appeared atop the finger she was pointing towards them...
Selina "Expecto Patronum!" she shouts as the feelings of happiness begin to overwhelm her, unleashing the spell.
All of the group bar Quennie are shocked by what she conjures, a huge Dragon without limbs barrels through the hallway... Mathias recognises it to be a Quetzalcoatl, even if its body was slightly different than the myths he'd read.
The side of the Quetzalcoatl was so large that it couldn't even slither, instead just travelling straight down the hallway and obliterating anything that got in its way. It was like a train again ordinary people, the ghosts stood no chance, they weren't even able to slow it down as the light disappeared around a corner.
...
Selina wipes a drop of sweat from her brow and sends a smiling thumbs up at everyone, "Well? How did I do?"
Mathias "What was that, and were do I learn it." he states, not wishing to let such a powerful spell escape his attention.
Tyrael nods, "I could feel something akin to Heaven in that conjuration... Did you call on Heaven to assist you?"
Selina rubs the back of her head, "Ah, no... It's called the Patronus spell, it's useful against Dementors and apparently other spirits too."
Barnock "You lot, I don't know about you but we still need to rest up for tomorrow, don't wanna be fighting Diablo while tired." he says, dropping to the floor and immediately falling asleep.
Quennie nods, "I'll have my undead keep watch, I doubt they'll return though, even ghosts have some sense." she mutters, crawling into her own sleeping bag.
Mathias glances at Selina "We'll speak more on this when we return."
Selina nods, "Don't be upset when you can't learn it though, a grumpy guy like you doesn't look like the type who could use it..." she says, receiving a glare from said "Grumpy Guy".
The night passed without anymore interference from the ghostly denizens of the ruins, the Quetzalcoatl Patronus was apparently enough to "Put the fear of God into them".
After the group all awakened, drank and ate, they were ready to leave the ruins and finally confront Diablo...
Selina "Can't we take one little look in the ruins though? Maybe the have a button that causes Diablo to self destruct?"
Tyrael sighs nad looks to Quennie who just shrugs her shoulders, "No, we can check on the way back... Now let's go." he states as Mathias lowers the stone blocking the door.
The group gather behind Barnock as he opens it with a little effort, however, they all stop when they spot something horrifying....
Barnock glares at the huge eye staring at him from the door, "You better not be attached to anything or I'm gonna tear your legs off." he says, causing the huge eye to back off. He grins and turns to face the group, "And that's how you deal with things, write it down kids." he says with crossed arms...
Mathias eyes widen when he sees whatever the eye belonged to approach again, this time... Showing its mouth, teeth, tongue and throat... A flicker of flame had started gathering as the back of the maw. "OH SHIT! RUN!" he exclaims, turning and running as fast as he can down the hallway.
It doesn't take long for the group to follow, receiving Dragons Breath to the face wasn't on any of their bucket lists.
Mathias waved his staff behind him and raised a stone wall just as the Dragon unleashed a tsunami of fire towards them, the flames acting more like liquid instead of regular fire. The wall of stone holds back the fire for only a moment, it eventually glowing red and melting before letting the breath continue unimpeded.
Selina "Why don't we just kill it!?" she asks, wondering how they were going to kill Diablo if already proved too much for them.
Getting Shrek vibes from this scene lol
