Chapter 9

I think I was smart in my past life and I still got the groove of smartness after over two decades. I mean I answered almost all the questions in mechanics easily. Okay, I didn't answer them but whispered them to Sky who answered them. Such a bummer. The people and teacher especially praised the kid whilst the brains which was me stood there invisible. The teacher asked them to take out their computers and open some kind of program which dealt with cars they did. I glanced around the room. From the look of things the only went into the lecture hall when and if be. I went the back of the class in waited patiently for it to end.

After Infinity years,the teacher announced they'd have exam the following week and dismissed them. Most of them got out walking arm in arm. For some reason ,AJ was absent. I walked towards him and we got out of his class heading towards the cafeteria. At that point, girls kept looking and whispering. If Only I could read thoughts. We were met by the other three as we neared the cafeteria. They each got out the place and I presumed they'd eat under the stone benches. Just as I'd thought,they headed towards that direction. On their way out I asked Skylar to get me an extra large cup of iced coffee and a sundae which he did.

We all sat on the stone benches. Sky and AJ sat on the same bench, Josh,to their right and Kathy, opposite them. I decided to sit on the left side by Sky. They ate whilst chatting. I took out my portion of food from Skylar since he got what I wanted aside from the snacks. I had originally ordered rice and omelette. I ate in silence as they spoke.

" Why buy dessert when you won't eat it?" Kate asked. What was this girl's problem?. Skylar brushed the question and continued his meal.

" Do I really have to take a side test in linguistics with you guys?" AJ whined.

" It's for your own benefit. You need to know more and learn how to speak that language. So yes,you take the class with us" Kathy replied.

" When's the test?" Skylar asked

" Right about next week. I'm pretty sure it's on your time table" Joshua said, humor evident in his tone.

After their meal,they piled up their bowls and began discussing about their individual exams. Each took out their pamphlets. That's hen I spotted Kathy's Last name. Wonders. The name sounded familiar. I squinted my eyes as I tried to recollect where I'd seen that name. I had a vision. A blur one.

It was of my younger self walking into a med class. You could tell by the atmosphere . A teacher introduced me to the class as a new student.That was all and nothing more. Skylar whispered my name as I sat recollecting past memories. Kathy checked the time. She had class in some few minutes. Skylar checked his schedule . He was free that afternoon. So was AJ. AJ claimed he was going to the basketball court but we all knew where he was headed. Kathy and Joshua excused themselves as they headed towards the path opposite the direction we came. Once they were gone, Sky gave out a pretty annoying look.

" Where do you want to go?" he asked still wearing that look on his face. Anywhere far from that stupid face you're making now.

" The library will do just fine" I answered .He smiled and directed me to the library .

We entered the quiet place and walked down a path which contained very old books. He scanned the shelves for some time till he found what he was looking for. He took out a book of paranormal and blew off the dust. I coughed, earning a raised brow and a glance from him. I know, I know I was a ghost and wasn't supposed to feel that. He settled comfortably on the ground,legs crossed as the book nestled comfortably. He whispered out loud what he read. It was about the quantum realm and the multi universe. Okay,what in the world was the human doing learning about the quantum realm?. What did the word even have to do with all this?.

I sat by his side peering into the book probably looking like the dumbest person on earth. He suddenly asked a question which I wasn't ready for.

" Do you know the main reason why I got you out of the graveyard apart from sympathy?".

That was when I realized I had never actually reasoned why he got me out of the place to begin with. The Keeper's words hit me. Humans never did anything without a motive. I shook my head in response to his question.

" Can I know why you did so ?"I asked, curiosity written all over my naive looking face.

" I brought you out because......"

" What are you doing here talking to yourself?" . That was the librarian asking him.

The guy literally looked like he had been caught in the act of rape. I laughed at his pale and blank face. The lady touched him by the forehead. I laughed even more.

" I'll do this for you alone Tawan. Because of who you are but this is a restricted area. Never be found here again" the lady said as she helped him off the ground. Skylar appreciated the woman's help turned to me and slowly walked out of the restricted section with me following behind. We got out of the library into the broad daylight. The rest of the day went on smoothly as an ordinary day probably would.

I opened the fridge immediately we entered the apartment. It was night time. I took out the last bar of chocolate from the very last box. I screamed, making him rush towards me. He noticed my dilemma.

" My credit card is almost running dry because I've used most of the money to get you various sweets. And it's been less than a month " he said before I even spoke. Ok,first of all,he was rich. Secondly ,I didn't eat that much. He didn't have to be stingy about it. I pouted my lips.

" Back to the main reason why I brought you here. It's because I want you to contact my dad"

I literally dropped the piece of chocolate which was in my mouth. " You want me to do what?;" I asked , just to be sure I heard him right. He repeated what he'd said earlier. If I wasn't already dead I would have died. I battered my lashes for a while.

" The gang will be coming over tonight. I'll be going out to buy some stuff. What would you like me to get you?" he asked in a sweet voice. Did he really just ask me that?,making the question seem so normal. Was he serious?. How could he think of food at a time like thay?.

" I'd like a sweet fudge sundae and pink milk" I ordered. Okay, re asking the question. Was I serious?. How could I be thinking of food after he'd just asked me to contact his dead father who probably moved on over 15 years ago?. How was I even going to do that?.

Oh well,stomach first. He nodded his and was about moving out the room when I called his name.

" Skylar ?" he stopped and focused his attention on me. 'I don't know much but back at the school I sort of recollected something when I saw Kathy's name". He locked the door and walked closer to me.

" Tell me more"he said.

" It was a blur memory of me being introduced as a new student to a class" I squinted my eyes as I tried harder to recollect the memory.

" You think you remember your full name now,don't you?"

" Yes. My name is Eileen Wonders" I replied in a quiet tone. He pat my head. He did pat my head. It took him seconds the realize that he'd actually touched me. A ghost. He shook his head and tried touching me again but his hand went right through. He didn't understand how he touched me. We looked at each other for a while before his grandfather clocked chimed 6:00 p.m.

"I've got to run. They will be here soon. The boys will be here first. They live right above me. They can drop by any minute. Lay low. I don't want them seeing things levitate in my room" he cautioned as he closed the door behind him leaving me alone. I slumped myself lazily on the couch, removing my boots. I closed my eye, repeating my name. Eileen Wonders,Eileen Wonders. I drifted off into a short slumber.

PS: A mistake I made earlier. Skylar offers Mechanical engineering.

Why do you think he's able to touch her from time to time. I'd like to know your thoughts.
