Devil Hierarchy

So, we meet again. This time, our topic is more informative type than the usual rants. Our topic is, as the title says, the devil hierchy, including tge 4 Maous, the 6 Gouses of Lucifer, the 72 Noble pillar houses of the Devil society and the Extra Demons. I'll only briefly touch upon Reincarnated Devils.

To start with, let us begin with how they all came to be:

> Hades muttered to himself as he looked at Lilith. Hades had discovered Lilith in Rizevim's research facility, and used the [Book of Lucifer] that he had obtained from Apophis to begin experimenting with Lilith. The [Book of Lucifer] which had been hidden away recorded in detail how the first-generation Lucifer and Lilith gave birth to Devils, and even the reason why the mother of Devils had become the current piece of flesh that she was. The first-generation Lucifer created the first Devils — the pure-blooded Devils who were classified as the 'first-generation'. As the [Book of Lucifer] didn't have a detailed record of the Four Great Satans aside from Lucifer and also Mephistopheles, it was not known whether the Devils of that generation were born from Lilith, or if they existed with Lucifer from the very beginning…but to the majority of Devils, Lilith seemed to be their original mother. --Volume 24, New Life, Artificial Transcendent.

So as we can see, all 72 Devils came from Lilith, these 72 Primordial Devils will become known by their "names" in the Ars Goetia, such as Bael, Belial, Gremory, Furfur, Agares, etc...

However, here is the interesting part: It seems that for whatever reason, the Great Maous and Extra Demons weren't necessarily created by Lucifer: For some of them like Leviathen and Beelzebub, we can hazard a guess that they were transformed into Devils, as they are actual beings known in mythologies outside of this: Ba'al Zebub being a Philistine God and Leviathen being the Sea Monster of biblical cosmology.

For Asmodeus, we don't know if he was created or transformed, neither do we know if Mephisto Pheles was transformed by Lucifer or was he a devil all along.

What we do know though, is the fact that these 4 Beings: Lucifer, Leviathen, Beelzebub, Asmodeus all stood as the absolute authority over all the devil side of the Underworld, with their abilities that were inserted by their bloodlines being:

--Lucifer: Demonic Brilliance of Evil Light

--Leviathen: Serpent of The End

--Asmodeus: Starsend Moment

--Beelzebub: Lord of The Flies

The extra Demons such as Mephisto and the others were in a weird situation of being technically followers but more closed to themselves, with Mephisto outright leaving the Underworld to mind his own business.

As of now, we know 9 Extra Demon clans, of which 6 are special. For now, the 3 normal ones are:

--Abbadon: Hole ability.

--Belphegor: Crack ability.

--Mamon: Unknown ability.

Now, to be clear, we don't actually know if these Devils were born with their bloodline abilities or if they developed it over time and then it became a hereditary trait. This goes for all devil families we know: Noble, Extra Demons and Maous alike.

Back to business, for the 6 special Extra Demon clans, we have to explain something.

See, even as all the 4 Maous ruled together, there is no doubt that Lucifer stood as the supreme Leader, and so, him and by extension his house, had 6 devil houses dedicated to them and them alone. They were called the Claws of Lucifer, or the Lucifer Six, they are:

--Lucifage --Satanchia --Agaliarept --Fleurety --Sargatanas --Nebirios

These houses can technically be said to be above the 72 pillars as they are direct servants of the Lucifer House, especially the Lucifage House, known to be a partner of Lucifer for the longest time. There even is a famous saying in devil world: For every Lucifer, there is a Lucifage.

Next, we have the 72 pillars. A thing to note about them is that they are classified using the old aristocracy system of nobility: Great King, Arch Duke, Prince, Duke, Earl, Marquis, Knight, etc...

This system did somewhat change with the arrival of Evil Pieces:

> ….There are things about peerages and also about high-class, middle-class, and low-class devils related to it.... Maou, Great-King and Archduke are extremely important... For the high-class devils the peerage goes Duke, Prince, Marquess, Count, Viscount and Baron. Was the peerage for the middle-class devils Baronet and Knight...? It's similar to the human's peerage but also includes devils original meaning to it….. Nu, nuuuuuu..... The applied problems are complicated...--Volume 8, Extra Life, Part 3.

Not only the houses, the peerage now are being classified by this system of nobility.

Now, we won't be giving every house with every rank, as we simply don't have them. But we have the houses ranked from 1 to 72, according to influence, do keep in mind this is probably the current ranking, so here they are:

--Bael --Agares --Vassago --Gamigin --Marbas --Valefor --Amon --Barbatos --Paimon --Buer --Gusion --Sitri --Beleth --Leraje --Eligos --Zepar --Botis --Bathin --Sallos --Purson --Marax --Ipos --Aim --Naberius --Glaysa-Labolas --Bune --Ronove --Berith --Astaroth --Forneus --Foras --Asmoday --Gaap --Furfur --Marchosias --Stolas --Phoenix --Halphas --Malphas --Raim --Focalor --Wepal --Sabnock --Shax --Vine --Bifrons --Uvall --Haagenti --Crocell --Furcas --Balam --Alocer --Caim --Murmur --Orobas --Gremory --Ose --Amy --Oriax --Vapula --Zagan --Valac --Andras --Flauros --Andrealphus --Cimeries --Amduscias --Belial --Decarabia --Seere --Dantalion --Andromalius

Now, among these 72, sadly only 32 are considered "Active", with 40 ruled out as "Extinct" despite having survivors. These either to: All survivors being of mixed blood, the house simply can't support its status anymore or all menbers with active bloodline ability being dead.

Now, those 40 Extinct houses are:

Marbas, Valefor, Buer, Gusion, Leraje, Eligos, Botis, Bathin, Marax, Ipos, Aim, Bune, Ronove, Foras, Gaap, Marchosias, Halphas, Malphas, Raim, Wepal, Sabnock, Vine, Bifrons, Haagenti, Crocell, Alocer, Caim, Murmur, Orobas, Ose, Amy, Zagan, Andras, Flauros, Andrealphus, Cimeries, Amduscias, Decarabia, Seere, and Andromalius

Now someone might ask: What's exactly the point of the rankings? Why does it matter which house ranks what. The answer is in fact in the novel:

> "Vassago was the 3rd in the former 72 Pillars, right? Her house has quite a high social standing, right?"

> Rias nodded at my question. Originally it was the noble family coming after the Great King Bael; who is 1st, and the Archduke Agares in 2nd. Because even now, the obsession with the rankings that existed in the past in the Underworld is deeply-rooted. Such things as the influence of the former 3rd should be quite strong?

> "I'm sorry. I should have informed you that this kind of thing would happen in advance. Every house that was one-digit from the former 72 Pillars are obsessed───They strongly hold to their past influence". --Side Story: A Mad Tea Party, part 1.

Now, for the 72 pillar bloodline abilities, we sadly know very little of them. Here are the confirmed canon ones:

--Vepar: Mermaid physiology

--Bael: Power of Destruction

--Furcas: Horse taming

--Sitri: Water Manipulation

--Agares: Limited Time manipulation

--Bune: Dragon control and  Transformation

--Phenex: Fire control, Wind control, Regeneration

--Balam: Super Strength and Magic Resistance

--Forneus: Sea monster transformation and control

--Vassago: Materialising chains that control those bound by them

Now, speaking plainly, one might ask: Aside from bloodline, what sets the difference between these Devil Descendents? What's the difference between Sitri and Leviathen, they all control water right? And horse taming doesn't sound impressive enough does it?

Well, it is quite simple: It is potential. For Pillar houses, almost every single child born for them is destined to reach High-class in power no training needed.

This is the biggest difference between the Nobles and the normal low class Devils. It is the overwhelming difference in potential, bloodline and inherent power from birth that allowed them to be crowned at this position.

Now what's the difference between Maou descendents and Pillar descendents? Easy: Almost all Maou descendents are destined to reach Ultimate Class without any training whatsoever. And remember, while the jump between Middle-class to high class is big, the jump from High-class to Ultimate-class is even bigger.

This is why the Maou descendents were so revered, that and the fact that Devils are very very aristocratic, so they almost worshipped the Maous as God's. And they might as well have been for them.

And well, that's that, I know I didn't talk about Half Devils, Low-Class Devils and reincarnated Devils. But they are simply very clearly explained already and don't matter much so, I guess that's that.

Hope you guys enjoyed this, and see you next time.
