Welcome to Duelist (2)

Looking at the quest that appeared Bishop thought it over for a second and accepted. There was no reason why he should not accept this side quest.

"Where can I find old Tom?"

"Usually at the tavern or brothel. He wastes more money on beer and whores than my wife does on shoes. If you catch him while he's drunk it'll be even easier for ya."

Bishop nodded in understanding.

If old Tom was drunk Bishop could easily take him down, even if their stats were different. Duelist allowed the players to drink like the NPCs however, it came at a cost. Drinking too much caused you to lose stat points while making your vision a bit hazy. This debuff worked for NPCs as well.

Visiting the brothel was a different story as it increased your charisma for a short duration but made you fatigued.

Truthfully either option would work well for Bishop.

Bishop turned around to leave, but the hooded figure grabbed his hand.

"Be careful ya hear. Old Tom has a few lackeys surrounding him if they catch you it's over for ya. I ain't sending you to your death, just to retrieve what is mines. Don't fight if ya don't have to."

"Thanks for the advice I'll be sure to keep it in mind. Don't you worry in a few you'll have your medallion back."

Bishop stopped a few meters away from the hooded figure before he realized that there was no minimap.

A minimap would be helpful when traveling around the kingdom as it would show any hostiles near your location. Dungeons and stores would also be marked on the minimap.

Bishop remembered the capital of the Roan Kingdom's layout. It was the first place he designed so he paid attention to its details.

There was no need for him to have a minimap right now, but he'd need one later. The world of Duelist is vast and there was no way Bishop remembered every spot. Truthfully, he only recalled three locations.

Recalling the location of the Tavern Bishop made his way there. It was not that far away from the castle's gate, just a ten-minute walk.

On the streets, there were citizens in tattered clothing selling items off of small mats. The items were being sold cheaply, barely going past a silver. Some items were useful but a large majority of them were not.

When designing this place Bishop thought of how the world would have been like during the medieval period. There was no shortage of beggars back then and there was no shortage now.

Seeing his work come to life it made him both happy and sad. It was hard to look at the scene in front of him without having some sort of emotions. As a creator, it gave him a sense of joy when his hard work paid off to have such a small detail cause these emotions.

While there were beggars on the street, there were also prostitutes wandering around. The brothel was a place men could relieve stress for a price. The price could be high or low but the more you paid the better the experience. Many females in need of cash would apply to work at such a place only to be turned away because they were not the right 'fit'. Those females then chose to become prostitutes, the same type of job but the pay was less. They had to look for their own clients which were mostly drunk men visiting the tavern.

Bishop saw some of these type of prostitutes hanging on the side of young men's arm. Sitting on the laps of men while flirting around.

Everything felt so real to him causing Bishop to smile.

"Whaddya lookin at? Got a staring problem do ya?" Across from where Bishop was smiling sat a bulky man with a cigar in his mouth. The muscles on his arms were the size of Bishops head. Sitting on his lap was a woman in a tight red skirt, her arms were wrapped around the man's neck.

Bishop quickly waved his hands at the man showing he meant no harm.

Quickly moving away from the sight of the bulky man Bishop made his way to the tavern's counter.

There was no music playing on loud voices could be heard in the tavern. Some men were being louder than others while bragging about their day. Bishop could make out a man with his arms down one woman's shirt, clearing fondling her breast while he chatted with his mates.

Beer, food, and females. Three things that kept this tavern and all the others alive.

Removing his gaze from that man Bishop looked ahead of him and saw the barkeeper. A young woman with blonde hair and blue eyes. She let her hair flow down her shoulders as she wiped the clear mug in her hands clean.

"Haven't seen you in town, must be new huh?" She started speaking as she continued to wipe the glass clean.

Bishop raised his eyebrow slightly and nodded his head.

"Yeah just came today. What can you tell me?"

"Depends on what you want to know. So tell me, what do you want to know?"

Bishop caught on to what she meant. In Duelist some NPCs that worked in taverns knew all the gossip that went on in town. For a fair price, they'd tell you anything you'd want to know. If you had an outstanding relationship with them they'd keep your secrets for a decent price.

Drunk people were easy to talk to, and usually spilled things they shouldn't. With the loud chatter going on in the tavern it was easy to pick up information.

"Just the usual, like how's the capital doing? Anything major happening?"

The woman was not disappointed in how Bishop replied to her. Although what he asked for was not worth anything there would be more opportunities in the future. As long as she built a good standing with him now, he was bound to come find her later on.

"There has not been anything going on here lately. The Treaty with Everlight is still solid, has been that way for five years now. The military is still recruiting fresh soldiers, you can find a good days pay as long as you are fit. No new dungeons have sprouted in these past few months, so things have been a bit quiet. Only good thing is that Mr. Ben recently opened up a shop in town selling higher grade armor."

"Still recruiting huh, the military never seems to run out of money for its soldiers. For them to be recruiting so often wouldn't be surprised if a war is coming up."

The blonde haired woman's eyes seemed to shine as she sat the glass down and leaned over a little bit. Bishop could see her creamy skin and that deep valley.

"Got a little something you'd like to share or are you asking a question?"

Bishop laughed.

"Just speaking what comes to mind, you haven't seen old Tom around here have ya?"

The blonde haired woman rubbed her index finger and thumb together, signaling that the information Bishop asked for would cost him some money. Unfortunately, Bishop was flat broke not even a copper to his name.

Bishop signaled for the woman to lean a bit closer, which she did.

"Mr. Ben whom you've spoke of earlier. He's in his mid-forties, no children, no wife came here alone about two years ago. He's actually a spy sent from Everlight, don't believe me check his profile. No way he'd give up his status in Everlight just to come here and start over." Bishop whispered in her ears.

The woman was shocked for a moment but moved closer to Bishop.

"I don't believe ya one bit, but since you sound so confident I'll check it out. Old Tom is upstairs with some woman, room 103. I'd wait until he's done before you go to him, might be a while though."

The woman's voice sounded seductive which caused Bishop's ears to tingle.

"Let me find out you're lying." The woman said as she stabbed a knife into the counter.

Bishop nearly jumped in fright but kept his cool.

Bishop turned around and went up the stairs. He'd better get the medallion back before any more time went by. The quest the king was going to send everyone on was important. Bishop wanted to be apart of it.

As Bishop's figure disappeared upstairs, a female dressed in blue came over to the counter. She sat down where Bishop was just seated and placed her elbow on the counter as she rested her head on her palm.

The blonde haired woman slid a glass her way filled to the brim with alcohol.

Picking the glass up with one hand she took a sip, while her other hand grabbed the small piece of paper under it.

Setting the glass down she looked up at the blonde haired woman.

"Who was that Jane?"

"The man just here? No clue said he's new in town."

"What'd he want, something specific or just visiting."

"Asked about old Tom, guessing old Tom owes him or is a friend. No one really asks about old Tom unless… ya know you're one of those old geezers."

The woman in blue laughed a little as she turned around and got up from her stool. Jane, the blonde haired woman grabbed her arm.

"Wait a second Jean, need you to check something out for me."

"What do you have in mind?"

"I got a little info on Mr. Ben, need you to see if it's true or not. Just watch him for a few days and report back to me."

Jean nodded her head and made her way out of the tavern.
