"Hello again, I will drop your son at Levels High School where I picked him up."

"However, first you must drop 30 million essence coins at the three places I am going to mention. Pay close attention; I won't be repeating myself."

"The bus stop at Banana Street, the fourth bench from the entrance at Citric Park, and the Dietary Orphanage donation box."

A group of five people listened to the recorded call between the kidnapper, Mickey, and the victim's mother, Mo Xie.

The call had happened less than half an hour ago, and the police had sent their best agents to Mo Xie's place to assess the situation.

Seeing her former classmate looking at the night sky through the window, Kang Yimo couldn't help but sigh in helplessness.

'Ever since she was a kid, Mo Xie has always been stubborn and refuses to give in to the situation.'

'Sigh, the kidnapper is someone who knows her well and is using her character to his advantage. She loves her son, and at the same time, she wants the kidnapper to experience hell for what he did to her belongings.'

As the young lady crushed her thoughts, the pretty boy on the sofa facing hers had a firm gaze as he looked at the numerical figures that popped up on his laptop.

Chi Di had a had a few tears of sorrow in his eyes.

The scene where he drove his teammates into their graves when he was fooled with the wrong location flashed in his brown eyes.

'I won't make the same mistake again! I will catch you for real!'

Chi Di had always considered himself one of the smartest mortals in Acoustic City. Unlike most men, he didn't develop muscles whenever he worked out and was born with a feminine body.

This made him work out his brain instead, and surely his cognitive abilities were among the best in the whole city.

It was just that last time he wanted to show off in front of an authoritative figure like Mo Xie... and thus his greed got the better of him.

On the other side of the room.

Lang Yi and Min Yize, who were sitting on the couch, exchanged weird glances at each other. They were both at work, and this was their first time seeing each other, but the air around them was pleasant.

Lang Yi had rosy cheeks as she glanced at the man sitting at the far edge of the couch. Her hand pushed her brown hair to the back of her ear, showing her alluring heart-shaped face;

"Investigator Min, don't you think that the kidnapper is someone from the Dietary Orphanage? We can retrieve the money we put at the other places, but we can't take the donation money. That place has tight security, and don't even get me started on the key to open that place."

'She is sensible. She must have already figured out that the locations would form an 'L' if you connect them together, with the Orphanage in the middle.'

Min Yize carried a lot of reverence as he gazed at the woman at the far end of the couch... but noticing that everyone was looking at him, he immediately put on his professional face.

"Yes, Miss Lang, you raised a very important point, but in my view, the Orphanage is just a trick to lead us into suspecting the wrong person."

"Lang Yi is right!" Just after the investigator's words, the victim's mother exclaimed.

She took a deep breath of the lavender scent that shrouded the whole living room.

"Yes, the Orphanage is filled with criminals! We should arrest everyone in there!"

Kang Yimo immediately facepalmed.

She also thought so at first. She wanted revenge more than anything else, but she realized that the kidnapper was good at playing with people's emotions.

...so, she kept it cool despite 75% of her team dying today.

"Calm down, Miss Mo."

Mo Xie quickly threw a fit like a baby.

"Calm down?! I am already calm! Do I look like someone who is not calm?!"

The female investigator wasn't fazed by this. She crossed her long legs and laid back on the sofa,

"Yes, you are not calm. It would be best if you let us do our jobs. I promise you, we will get to the bottom of this!"

Lang Yi immediately supported, not wanting to see her boss in such a pitiful state.

"My Lady, I am sure you need some rest. It was already a long day for you. I will assist the police in your stead."

Mo Xie furrowed her brows, but her expression soon relaxed. She knew that the kidnapper wanted her to panic so that he could exploit her more.

'I am sure he didn't lay a finger on my son. All he needs is money, which made him resort to such an act. If he knows me well, like I think he does, he must know that he won't get away alive by hurting my boy.'

She thought, her mind suppressing the thoughts of when she heard Mo Bing being slapped.

'My son is strong; he wouldn't cry like that... it was all someone acting in his steed.'

She looked at her assistant with a grateful gaze.

"Thank you, Lang Yi. I will leave the rest up to you. Wake me up if there is something you cannot handle."

Lang Yi made a calm smile.

"You can count on me, ma'am!"

Mo Xie walked out of the spacious room, passing the winding pathway that had portraits of Mo Bing on the walls, which led to her bedroom.

She was alone and didn't even bother to turn on the lights as she dialed a special number on her phone, which was immediately answered.

— "I hope this is not one of the times you call just because you miss me. If it is not important, I am hanging up."

At the end of that guttural voice, Mo Xie's sadness immediately manifested as she started crying.

The energy in her legs drained away as she fell to the ground on her knees with a thud.

— "Honey, I didn't mean to be rude, it's just I am busy at the moment! Is everything okay?! Tell me everything; I am all ears!"

The voice was pleading and showed great care for the woman.

Mo Xie cried for a few minutes with no one to console her, as a river of tears landed on the ornate carpet.

"Our baby! Our baby has been kidnapped!"

"What?! My son is what?!"

Back in the living room, only the sound of Chi Di's continuous typing on his keyboard could be heard, and a ray of confidence flashed in his pink eyes.

"I have found this guy's goal!"

Everyone looked at him with suspicious eyes as they waited for him to continue.

"This guy's true aim is to get 30 essence coins; he is only going to show up at one drop point."

Min Yize narrowed his eyes. He had already suspected this.

"Most of us could tell that much."

Chi Di chuckled.

"That is what he wants you to think! He is going to show up at two drop points where our forces will be lacking!"

"..."

Chi Di continued as he sensed the suspicious eyes looking at him.

"The kidnapper mentioned 30 essence coins at first, and after we fell for his trap, he raised the amount to 90 essence coins. He wanted us to not suspect 60 as the real amount.

"This is why he involved the Orphanage. He knew that most of our forces would be focused on such a place, as it is more difficult to look at compared to the other two.

My hunch is that he will be waiting at one of the benches in Citrus Park, and after collecting the ransom, he will walk by foot to the bus stop and collect the other, before taking a bus to the other side of the city."

Everyone's eyes danced in awareness. The kidnapper had such a splendid plan. Luckily, he didn't consider Chi Di's intelligence to figure him out.
