Hunting Grey Wolves

Another day passed successfully as Kai continued hunting grey wolves and other non magical beasts. His reason for hunting grey wolves was so he could improve his magical abilities.

There were three ways that a mage can develop their magical abilities: natural talent, hard work, and experiencing a life-or-death situation.

"If I continue like this I should be able to C rank in no time. Maybe his is the kind of environment I needed for my growth"

After constantly using his Fire magic in battle, his mastery began to grow and his magic power began to increase.

"I still haven't been able to test out my theory but I will just play it for now. If it fails, I might die a gruesome death." Kai shivered as he imagined himself exploding.

Kai decided to stop hunting for a bit and train his abilities. Although he hadn't failed in a hunt yet, it was only due to his destructive power of his fire magic and the low intelligence of the beasts he fought. He knew that as he went further down the forest he will lose his advantage.

Although the Fire magic is known for its destructive power, the only downside is its lack of defensive spells. So Kai is trying to create a defensive spell for his fire magic.

But after several hours of try and error, he eventually stopped and decided to rest.

Three days later, somewhere in the forest of Hulda. One can see the scene of a lean and muscular young man with spiky black hair, charcoal grey eyes and a white scarf with scale-like patterns around his neck fighting against 3 human-sized grey wolves.

The wolves eyed the human warily, after all, during this few days, he had gone around and continuously hunted down their members of their pack. Even with their limited intelligence, they knew he was someone dangerous.

The young man, Kai was also vigilant about the wolves. To improve his fire magic, he had become active in his hunt and found many grey wolves that he subsequently killed.

The 3 wolves circled him, looking for a moment to strike but Kai didn't give them that chance.

He immediately unleashed two fireball spells. One aiming for the first grey wolf and the other aiming for the wolf behind him.

The wolves tried to dodge the attack but the fireballs was moving too fast for them to dodge so they ended up getting burnt by the attack.

Kai used burst step and dodged the claws of the third wolf and appeared on its back, landing a devastating flame engulfed fist on its spine.

With the 3rd wolf paralyzed, Kai used burst step once again and appeared Infront of the first wolf, slamming his fist on the wolf's head.

He continued to dance around the wolves, but used burst step if he sees things get dangerous. After five long minutes, the first two wolves had fallen.

Walking over to the third wolf who had been paralyzed at the beginning, Kai could see the hateful look in its eyes.

However, it was kill or be killed in this place, therefore he didn't feel remorse for it. He lifted his flame engulfed fist and slammed onto the wolf's head, crushing its skull.

Gathering his breath and wiping the blood off his hand, Kai realized that he was smiling once again. Recently, he had begun musing that he might be a battle maniac, as he felt an undeniable thrill in this kill or be killed environment.

If it wasn't for his goals to return back, he was sure he would have stayed here longer than he needed to just for the thrill.

He walked back to his little cave abode while silently admiring the forests scenery. By this time, the thick fog that covered everywhere was gone, revealing the forest's beauty.

Countless plants of various fantastical colors bloomed everywhere, however, he had almost found out the hard way that they're poisonous. Luckily, he decided to feed one to a dying wolf first and ended up killing it.

Reaching his home base, Kai sat down to rest. 'It seems like these wolf lackeys won't be enough to help me improve my magic anymore."

"My next big fight should be against their leader, who's most likely be a high ranking magic beast. Judging by how easy it's kill those D rank wolves, I don't think it should be a problem. Even if it's a tough fight, it's still doable."

Kai rested for 4 hours before standing back up. It has been three months since he left Fiona and It was his 5th day in the forest, he had the inexplicable feeling that something major would happen today.

Kai stared at the cave ceiling, his eyes seemingly attempting to pierce through reality.

He doesn't do this often, but after the reality set in that Igneal is gone and that he's far away from home, the pain of being alone came to the forefront.

He missed Igneal, he missed Lyon, he missed Elsie and the rest of the night owls and he even missed his shitty one room apartment.

Although he had yet to face death, he knew it would happen at some point. He knew his easy ride so far was only because he hasn't met a single high ranking magic beast.

He wasn't able to find any normal beasts this past few days, so he was forced to starve. He even started craving for magic beasts meat and it started getting worse with each passing day.

Maybe he'd lose all his humanity and turn into a beast himself… However, he didn't let that thought stir for too long.

"I have to get back no matter what happens." Whether he was joking around, hunting, training, or sleeping, this words constantly replayed on loop in his head.

"Well," he chuckled to himself, "I wonder what kind of fun my shit luck will bring me today."

His journey resumed once again, but unbeknownst to him, Kai would be the one getting hunted.
