Dracula's Heartbeat

"You're so freaking annoying, get off me." She said and raised her hands to push him away but before she could, his left hand came up and held them in mid air. "What if I don't want to?" He asked her. Ashley got a tickly feeling in her tummy as she watched him, not being able to bring herself to say anything. He was doing that thing again. Still holding her hand, he put their hands on his chest and leaned forward. Ashley's heart beat really fast and it was not just because of the struggle she had done but because of this man that was on top of her, intimidating her. He leaned in till their lips touched. Ashley closed her eyes when that happened, forgetting that she had been mad at him a few seconds ago and he kissed her. He was so passionate about the kiss and none of them cared about whoever might be watching them around. He broke the kiss after a short while and rested his forehead on hers. Their hands on his chest did not leave there and Ashley felt his heartbeat. Her eyes widened. "Your heart is beating fast." She commented.  Damon's hold on her hand tightened. "That's what you do to me Ash. You make my heart beat like crazy."  Ashley felt it again in her tummy, the tickly feeling. She stared into his eyes.  She knew her heart did funny things when it came to him but she didn't expect his heart to beat this fast because of her. She was glad she did things to him too and not just him to her. His lips took hers again and this time Ashley's hand left his and went around his neck then they rolled over with her lying on top of him now. Her hand went into his hair while his stroked her back. They rolled again now lying on their sides and kissing nonstop. Damon's hand went to her thighs and drew her closer to him, putting her leg on top of his while hers played with his hair and the other on his shoulder. They stayed in that position even after the kiss, now gazing into each other's eyes and enjoying what it felt like to lay in each other's arms in the midst of flowers and in front of a beautiful lake. ________ She is an orphan, in a world that hasn't been very fair to her. Was She Not Human?

Ashley woke up to the sound of her alarm clock ringing loudly. She sleepily turned the thing off and turned away, facing the other side on the bed. She just wanted to sleep some more. But then, her eyes abruptly opened, she remembered that she was to go to work.

Ashley sat up and looked around, a little bit confused before she remembered that she had slept in the mansion last night. She rubbed her face and got out of bed then sluggishly made her way to the bathroom.

After her usual morning routine of brushing, bathing and today washing her hair, which she realized she should have done in the night, she searched for what to wear.

Wanting to dress simply, she picked a blue dress that reached up to her knee. The arms were made with lace and were flared from her elbows. She stood at the mirror and packed her hair up then rolled it, making form a doughnut shape.

Ashley stood there staring at her appearance for a while after wearing lipgloss and when she felt she was okay, she picked up her phone and went for her bag.

Damon was going to drive her to work again, she sighed. At least he had not come to disturb her.

After picking up her bag, she walked out of the room closing the door behind her. The door to Damon's room opened also just as she closed hers. The distance between them was really far and she could barely see him well but she could see that he was all dressed up, looking smart and handsome as usual.

He looked in her direction and Ashley quickly looked away. She locked the door to her room and began walking in the direction of the staircase. She tried not to look to her left and kept her eyes on where she was going.

When she was getting to the long and glittery staircase, she saw Damon, also just getting there.

He kept his eyes on her as they walked. Ashley would look at him and look away until she decided to say something. If he couldn't greet then she would.

"Good morning." She greeted and he only gave a curt nod.

Really? She thought he had stopped the nodding.

Ashley felt he wasn't in the mood for talking since he had his usual cold look so she said nothing else and focused on where she was going, she didn't want to slip and fall.

When they got to the bottom of the stairs, Damon walked in front of her so she just followed him. They walked to the large entrance and then outside the house and towards his car.

"Get in." He told her after he had unlocked the doors.

Ashley did as she was told and watched Damon get in too then they drove out of the compound.

"Did you sleep well?" Damon asked breaking the silence this time and also got her surprised.

"Yes I did, thanks. Did you?" She asked.

"I did." He replied and then silence followed.

"You haven't told your friend about what I told you, have you?" Damon asked when they neared the restaurant.

Ashley looked at him. Well, thankfully she hadn't told Natalie yet. She didn't even that know anybody couldn't just know about this and she was still planning to let Natalie know everything when she felt comfortable enough to tell her about it.

"I haven't." She told him. "But, can't I let..."

"You can't let her know at all, unless you want me wiping out her memory." He cut in.

Memory wipe? No he couldn't do that, that wouldn't be fair. But he had done it to her before, which made her mad again now thinking of it.

"What else can you guys do?" She asked. "I mean you can wipe out memories and teleport, what else?"

She hadn't exactly seen him do the materializing thing but he had done it. She wondered what it felt like.

"We can take the form of somebody we've seen, we have the power to make ourselves invisible, we can also compel, manipulate and read minds which means we can hear thoughts." Damon explained.

Woah, that was a lot. As for the disguising part she had seen that but the invisibility... could it be that all those years and even presently, when she would feel some strange presence, could it have been that someone was really with her but she just couldn't see anyone... because they were... invisible.

Just for how long had she been in danger before Damon came in?

She had read that demons were evil creatures that made men sin, just as he said, they were here to manipulate people, deceiving them and causing them to fall into sin, causing them to commit sin and at the end of the day lead them to hell. She was sitting comfortably with one now. Just what did the future have in store for her?

They were supposed to all be evil but now it seemed like these people were the good ones and the ones after them were the evil ones. Their matter felt complicated to her.

And they could read minds? Oh no! He could hear her thoughts. All this while when she was with him, he had known all that she thought. Especially when..... No! That was totally not fair! Her thoughts were supposed to be private. Once again, that would be invading her privacy. She screamed in her head but calmed down and decided to ask.

"Do you know what I'm thinking?" She asked him.

"I can't hear your thoughts." He said and Ashley felt relief wash over her but she tried to not get too excited.

"Why?"

"I'm not sure."

Was she really that weird? If they could hear all humans thoughts then why couldn't he hear hers? Was she not human?

She shouldn't be worried. At least he hadn't been hearing her thoughts all this time.

"But I can hear your friend's." He said as they pulled over in front of the restaurant and Natalie had also arrived.

Then she was really different. Something about her was also not right. Perhaps she was a witch as people had called her and she just needed someone to confirm it, afterall she had found out that witches were real.

Ashley removed her seat belt and was about to open the door when Damon spoke.

"Be careful at work." He told her.

Ashley couldn't exactly tell if he was worried for her. She smiled then got out. Natalie rushed to her as she watched Damon drive away.

"Babe." Natalie called.

"Natalie." Ashley smiled.

"Are you okay?" She asked and Ashley nodded. Natalie looked at her skeptically.

"No nightmares." Ashley said.

"So you slept well." Natalie said to confirm. Ashley nodded.

The lady gave a wide smile. "I'm glad. Come on let's start work."

....

"Enjoy your meal sir." Ashley said with a smile as she served a customer. Natalie was also attending to one. They and been busy since the morning and the day was slowly coming to an end.

Ashley stood and looked around and just then, she saw Zuka come in and a smile curved up her lips. She had somehow been expecting him to come, as he had come a few times already. Though he usually came earlier in the day but today he came later in the day. Ashley smiled inwardly.

Zuka took a seat and she walked to him.

"Zuka," She called. "Nice to see you again, I'm glad you love our restaurant." She said when she got to his table.

He smiled upon seeing her. Ashley liked that she could talk freely like this to someone else. Perhaps Zuka had become her friend really.

"You seem happy." He said.

"I do?" She asked feigning a surprised expression.

He nodded. "Did you have a great weekend? Any good news?" He asked her.

"Maybe I'm just glad there's a committed customer." She chuckled.

"Who's that?"

"You of course." They both laughed.

"Are you here to eat today?" Ashley asked him.

"Yeah, I think I have an appetite." He replied rubbing his tummy.

"So what do I get you then?"

"My favorite, Chicken and chips."

"Well then, I'll be right away sir." She gave a salute and walked away.

Ashley wondered what had come over her. Natalie had a smile on when Ashley got to the counter.

"My Ashley is now taking to advice and interacting more. I like that, come on give mommy a hug." Natalie said spreading her arms wide open.

Ashley chuckled and playfully pushed her away.

"Dude you're just two days older than me." Ashley said. "Being forgetful again huh?" She teased, imitating Natalie's mom.

"Hey!" Natalie snapped.

Ashley laughed, finished dishing and quickly went back to attend to Zuka.

"Enjoy." She gave a smile as she placed the dish on the table.

"Thank you." He said and Ashley gave a bow before leaving him to eat.

She went on with work, clearing the used plates and packing the cash that they were paid. They made quite alot already.

Soon after Zuka called for her attention, he wanted some more.

"You really have that appetite." Ashley told him.

He chuckled. "Did you think I was lying?"

"No, not at all. I'll be right back."

Ashley served him some more and when he was done with it again he called for her attention.

"More?" She asked and he shook his head.

"I'm okay now." He smiled revealing his teeth again. "I really enjoyed the food. Now I'm even glad I heard about the restaurant from you."

"Well I'm glad you did. We love to have you here." Ashley told him which made his smile widen.

"I'll take my leave now. Stay safe okay?" He said standing up.

"I will." She replied him then watched him walk away from her.

Ashley loved customers like this but she loved this particular customer, or maybe friend, more.

She smiled as she cleared the plates away and picked the money on the table. Only two hours more and she would be heading back to that house.

Ashley sighed, everything would be alright eventually, she thought, comforting herself.
