"Block mo yung creepwave."
"Creep aggro."
"Secure mo yung range!"
"Wag kang makipag-exchange! Nasa high-ground siya magmimiss yung ibang tira mo!"
"Harass!"
"Huwag mo nang pasukin! Kahit i zone-off mo lang siya okay na 'yan."
Kite felt his head ache as he was constantly trying to give advice to this girl in front of him who's playing Dota.
"You need to remeber these basic things. Kahit basic lang sila, kapag mamaster mo eh, malaking improvement yan!"
He wasn't even planning to accompany her. In fact, he did everything to shake her off. But all of it was futile, for she's like a leech that's stuck onto you and would follow you anywhere... Even in the CR.
F*ck
Just what exactly happened. He rummage into his memory of what made him come to this computer shop again with her.
———
"Now, will you play Dota with me?"
"Ano bang problema mo?" Kite asked, taken aback by the sudden invitation. "Di mo ba narinig yung sinabi ko? I don't play games!" he added.
"So, what about that night?!" she asked while raising her voice. "Ipaliwanag mo sakin kung ano yung nangyari?"
Kite felt the stares boring into his very soul. Looked like 'that night' caught their attention.
"Oh, paki-explain nga kung ano yung nangyari sa inyo nung 'gabing' yun?"
Someone asked the question on everyone's mind. Emphasizing on the word 'gabing'.
"Huh? Anong sinasabi mo? Anong gabi?" Kite pretended to be dumbfounded. He wanted Rachel to take the initiative to further elaborate 'that night'. Like being at the computer shop, about Dota etc. That should clear the confusion. If he was the one to do that, everyone will undoubtedly think that he's changing the topic. Strengthening the whatsoever assumptions they have on their mind now.
Rachel closed her eyes then sighed. "Yung maulan," she claimed.
P*ta
'Well, that didn't help.'
Stare
Kite was now sure that if staring could kill, he would've died right now after being pierced by those gazes.
He coughed to compose himself, "Ehem. Baka anong isipin nila satin Miss Rachel. Pwede paki-ayos?"
"Huh... Oh!" she said, finally realizing the predicament they're in. Subsequently, she turned to those who are watching then said, "Kite played a game for me. Kailangan kong umalis eh, tapos naka-accept na, kaya naki-usap lang muna ako sa kanya. Nung Sabado yun. Di ba maulan nun? Siguro nakikisilong lang siya nun. Pero swerte niya, siya nakita ko kaya yun, siya pinalaro ko."
"Ah! Ganun pala."
Knowing everyone was convinced of his innocence, and all those murderous gazes were gone, Kite couldn't help but sigh with relief. Afterwards, he frowned at the last sentence of Rachel.
'Ano raw? Ako? Swerte? Baka siya! Buti nga in-accept ko yun eh! Tapos swerte ako kasi nakapaglaro ako? Shuta eh parang pinilit lang ako dun ah! Labag sa kalooban ko yun!'
He left this thoughts unsaid.
Rachel turned to face him again, "So ano, makikipag-laro ka na sakin?"
"As far as I know, di ako obligadong makipag-laro sayo. Besides, di na ako naglalaro ng Dota." Kite confessed.
"Oh, di na raw siya naglalaro ng Dota?" Rachel asked in a mocking tone then faced the people around them. "Can you believe that guys? Di na raw siya naglalaro ng Dota pero nung ginamit niya yung Invoker eh 30 kills with 0 death yung standing niya. Yun ba yung 'di na naglalaro'? What's more, Legends yung nga kalaban niya!"
This caught everyone's attention.
"Talaga?"
"Wow, pre! Ang galing mo naman"
"Pre, paturo!"
"Legend? Di ba mas mataas Archon dun? Archon ako eh. So mas magaling ako!"
"G*go! Mas mababa yung Archon sa Legend! Crusader yung mas mataas sa kanila! Hashtag, proud to be Crusader!"
Everyone became lively all of a sudden and talked about their ranks while some even tried to gain Kite's favor.
Kite stood up then headed for the door while saying,"As I've said, I don't play Dota anymore. Whether you believe me or not, nasa inyo na yun."
"Di ka ba nag-eenjoy sa paglalaro nito?" Rachel hastily asked.
This made Kite stop on his track. He turned around and said,"I do enjoy playing, but that was before."
Rachel suddenly grinned.
Seeing her smile, Kite had a bad premonition. So he hurriedly left the room and went to the school cafeteria.
He queued in the "Boys" line to buy some snacks. He looked around to confirm that no one has followed him. After that, he went to an empty table and ate.
He was busy eating when someone asked him, "Can I sit here?"
"Yes, you ma—" he stopped what he was about to say when he saw who was asking. "Rachel, bakit ba andito ka? Anong kailangan mo?"
"Kakain ako. Bakit, sayo ba tong lamesa na to? O yung cafeteria? Huwag mong sabihin na anak ka ng may-ari ng school?"
"Eh bakit ba kasi dito pa?"
"Wala nang upuan eh."
Kite looked around and saw that indeed there was no vacant seat anymore.
'That's odd.
Kite put aside his thoughts. Embarrassed by his jumping into conclusion, he decided to eat his food silently without even looking at Rachel.
"Alam mo, kung pera lang kailangan mo eh I can give you some," Rachel whispered without even touching her food.
Seeing this, Kite couldn't help but exclaim, "Sabi ko na nga eh! Ayaw mo pa rin akong tantanan!" He gathered his things and left.
"Wait—"
He went to the Male comfort room. Pretty sure that she won't be able to follow him there. It's the sanctuary for boys. But hell for their noses. The pungent smell is simply toxic. Good thing it was cleaned a little earlier when Kite arrived.
He went to do his thing as he was thinking, "Ba't ba ang kulit nun? Di bale na. Tatantanan din ako nun."
Kite purposely stayed a little longer before going out to make sure that he's safe.
He went out of the comfort room and was greeted, again, by that annoying face.
"So, katapos mong magbawas, laro na tayo?" Rachel beamed.
Kite felt a his mouth twitch. Then he asked, "Kanina ka pa naghihintay diyan?"
"Actually ngayon lang, babalik na sana ako sa room kasi di kita manahap, tapos nakita kitang lumabas, kaya ayan," she answered.
Kite couldn't believe what she just said. If that was true, is he really that unlucky? Or is Rachel just luckier than him that it completely suppressed his own luck? Anyways, the former seems more likely, as the latter is quite... absurd.
"So hangang kailan mo ako planong sundan?"
"Hmmm," she stroked her chin as if thinking. "Hanggang sa makipag-laro ka na sakin."
"Are you deaf or you just stupid? I told you I don't play Dota anymore!" he said. Then he suddenly felt sorry for raising his voice. "I... I'm so—"
She cut her off then exclaimed, "I'm not deaf nor stupid! Idiot! Bawal ba talaga makipag-laro sayo? Ano ka? Artista? Ganern?"
Hearing this, Kite regretted feeling sorry for her.
"Eh sa di na nga talaga ako naglalaro ng Dota!" he answered.
"Eh ano yung gabi?"
"Iba naglaro nun, umalis na ako agad. Pinalaro ko nalang sa iba."
"Nagtanong ako sa mga nasa tabi kong PC sabi nila isang lalaki lang raw yung umupo sa PC ko. Tapos tiningnan ko rin sa cctv, ikaw lang yung nandun ng mga 40 minutes."
Hearing this, Kite knew he couldn't make any excuses anymore.
"Sabihin na nating ako nga yun—"
"Ikaw naman talag eh."
"Ah basta, di na nga ako naglalaro!" he surrendered.
"Why?"
"I vowed not to."
"Then why play Dota nung gabing yun?"
"That was different, I did that for you. Not for me."
"..."
After a moment of silence, he remembered that they are now arguing in front of the Male's CR. He saw some people apparently intrigued by their drama. Embarassed, he took Rachel's hand and they both ran towards a vacant corridor.
When they stopped running, Rachel suddenly said, "Okay, I understand."
'Huh? Ano raw? She understand?'
Kite couldn't believe what she's saying. He thought that it would take him quite some persuasive maneuvers to make her submit. Luckily, it didn't take quite long.
'Well, at least I won't have to worry about her following me again.'
He said to Rachel while smiling, "Thank you for understanding. And thank you for not letting me play Dota anymore. I hope that we won't ever have to talk about it again.
"Huh? I did say na I understand. Pero di ko sinabing di na tayo mag-uusap tungkol sa Dota," she said.
"What do you mean?" Kite asked, puzzled.
"I won't force you to play Dota again. But if you want, you can play with me anytime. My trea—"
"Not interested." he cut her off.
"Patapusin mo muna ako," she glared at him which made him quiet. "Based on your ragged clothes and almost Jurassic na sapatos. Pati na rin sa binili mong pagkain sa kanin na pang-feeding program, I guessed you're in need of money, tama ba? So..."
Kite felt his mouth twitch again.
"Is she criticizing me? Do I really looked that poor?" Kite thought. "Wait, that doesn't matter now."
"Eh ano naman kung kailangan ko ng pera?" Kite retorted.
"... so, I'm asking you to be my coach. That way, you don't have to play Dota, thus, not breaking your vow, while helping me improve. Plus, I'll make you see enjoy playing Dota again through me. Take this as a challenge," she declared.
Seeing the confused look on Kite's face, she continued,"Don't worry, I'll be paying you. So, will you be my coach?"
'Well, I indeed need some money. Plus, I don't need to play, so that's fine.'
"O...kay." Kite finally said. But why do I feel like I'm being baited?
"Okay, deal. Meet me at FNG later after school," she said then walked away.
He followed her and was looking at her back when she turned around.
"Hmmp, I'll make sure you'll play Dota again. Maybe not now, but later. You'll not be playing Dota for yourself anymore, but..." she declared.
'Seems like she hasn't given up yet. That's why I've been feeling like I'm being baited.'
"But what?" he asked.
"... but you'll be playing Dota for me instead," she said while grinning.
This grin, however, doesn't seem that annoying to Kite anymore.
