Richard momentarily removed his body and mind from the physical world using one of the ten capabilities of the Eyes of God, called "World View." This prevented the activation of the Man in Black's ability on him because the World View capability freezes the world. When the man activated his ability, both of them could move in this frozen world.

The man cursed under his breath, then asked Richard, "I thought you said in the novel that Richard Blackthorn couldn't copy Magizer's ability."

Richard replied, "That was indeed what I wrote, but when I copied Magizer's ability, I wasn't Richard Blackthorn."

The man in black asked, "What? That doesn't make any sense."
