That Morning

From the blinds in my bedroom come the rays of the sun. It was magical. It was blinding yet it gives color to everything; transforming things cloaked in the dullness of the early morning sky. I am happily observing the outside world from my window as I sat on my bedside when suddenly I felt a familiar warmth. Someone hugged me from the back. I looked back and there she was--- the most beautiful wife in the world. My hands started to move on its own. It touched her face. When I looked at her, I found her smiling at me and her eyes twinkling like a midnight star. She was faultless. Her skin so soft and her hair splendid. A smile curved on my lips as I drew closer to her. In an instant, our lips met. Seconds later, I pulled away and hugged her. For a moment, we were one once again. For a moment, my heart was happy again.

Then, I heard a knock on the door.

I opened my eyes. There I was, laying on my bed. I gave out a little sigh then moved to sit on the bedside. Again, I felt a sudden warmth; however, it was not the warmth I have been longing for. It was not hers, it was from the sun's rays. I came to realize that I am certain, that I know for sure that never in my life I will be able to experience the same warmth that she has had given me. The rays from the sun continued touching my face, it was blinding yet not that fascinating. As the sun shone on everything, the dullness of my world remained.

"Dad, come on! You should have waken up and be at the dining table right now, I have been banging this door for minutes." said by an irritated voice outside my door. I smiled. I thought to myself, that at the very least one thing remains bright in my life.

"Hey son, I'll be right out there." I yelled as I stood up and head towards the door of my bedroom.

When I stepped outside my bedroom I then found myself at the living room, alone. From the kitchen, I heard clanging of the utensils. Instantly, my feet started to move towards the direction of the noise.

"Good morning, dad." said by a man whose back is currently facing me. He was busy preparing the table.

"Good morning." I replied.

I head to the kitchen sink, and there I washed my face and rinsed my mouth. I took the seat across my son at the dining table. We started to eat our breakfast quietly.

"So what are your plans today?" I said as I broke the silence.

"Have you forgotten the thing that I have been nagging you these past few weeks?" he said.

I just raised my eyebrows. Lost.

"You really did forget!" he exclaimed, frustrated.

"Dad, the party! The one that my classmate will be throwing as celebration for our high school graduation, remember?" he furthered, trying to make me recall.

"Oh, that." suddenly being reminded.

"I can still go, right?" he asked with anticipation.

"Of course. And even if I forgot that it was today, at least I came prepared. I bought you a new shoes and a knit shirt for you to use in the party." I announced as I started to get up from my chair. "That was one decent omelet, by the way" I added.

"Really?" he inquired.

"Yeah, you cooked well." I said.

"No, I mean the shoes and the shirt"

"Oh about that, it's in my bedroom. There is this paper bag on the bedside table that..." I have not been able to finish what I have been saying for my son ran off towards my room immediately.

I headed towards our living room. The next thing I know is that I am seated in the couch and was looking for the remote control of our television. When I finally got a hold of the remote, which have been laying under one of the throw pillows, I clicked the on button.

"A body has been found dead in an abandoned warehouse," said by the news caster in the television. I opened the television on a news channel. "It is believed that the victim is yet again another drug user who has fallen to the hands of the national police as part of the war on drugs campaign of the government…" the news caster further announced.

"That was a good punishment for a trash like him," I said to myself.
