Chapter 1Reincarnation

Zanir Coffey awoke with a splitting headache. The last thing that he could remember, was being involved in a really bad car crash.

'I was wearing my seat-belt, but I still hit my head pretty hard. I couldn't get out, and I ended up passing out. There's no way I made it out alive, but if that's the case, where am I?'

He tried to open his eyes up, to take a look around, but it made his head throb, even more. So he calmed down, trying to relieve the tension, that he was feeling. Zanir tried to focus on his breathing, and other senses, to figure out what was going on.

He could feel a cool breeze blowing by, every so often. He was laying down on a shabby mattress and could smell a musty blanket, that had been draped over him. The end was worn and frayed, with a few holes in it. The breeze tickled his bare feet occasionally, as it fluttered through.

Suddenly, a warm feeling poured through Zanir's head, as memories of the previous host's life started merging with his own. It felt weird at first, but he got used to it after a few minutes. The information was all standard and run of the mill, nothing felt out of place. The previous occupant had a mundane and ordinary life.

'Wait a minute! That means I really did die?'

Feeling quite shocked by the sudden turn of events, I was hit by a wave of nausea. Turning to the side of the mattress, I made it just in time to retch violently. My body trembled violently after I threw up, interspersed with an occasional bout of dry heaving. Altogether, it was a very unpleasant experience.

He had reincarnated into a villager's body, who had the same name. This world's Zanir had recently turned eighteen, in the remote mountain village called Pheasant Creek. He was no longer on Earth, this world was called Norantal and was very different.

He continued scanning through the memories, and saw that the world contained deadly monsters, brave warriors, and even magic!

None of that concerned Zanir at the moment though, as he'd come back in a remote region as the son of a farmer. It would be a while before he encountered anything like that if he ever did.

As the memories merged, he recalled, that world's Zanir had fallen off a tree, while working on the family farm. His head was bandaged up, and there was a sizable knot, that throbbed occasionally. At least the splitting pressure he felt upon arrival was clearing up.

He opened his eyes to look around and saw that he was in one of the old supply sheds. His parents must have fixed him up and placed him here after the fall. There was firewood stacked in the corner and a couple of worn down tools placed onto the racks.

Zanir felt a strange sensation, as the old shed was both familiar and foreign, at the same time. He could remember where each of the tools went, and even some of the marks and scratches on the posts. At the same time, this was his first time ever seeing this place before.

He stood up and started walking outside. 'Maybe some fresh air will help me feel better?'

Zanir was stunned when he came out of the shed. The beautiful scenery and lush fields were a big shock to someone from the city. Not to mention, that Norantal didn't have any pollution, unlike Earth, which had plenty of polluted and contaminated areas.

"Hey! You're finally up, how are you feeling Zanir?"

Zanir looked over and saw an older man, with saltpeter hair wearing blue overalls. He immediately recognized his father, Kevin Coffey. He saw the concern his father had for him and was moved.

"I'm feeling a lot better now dad."

"That's good Zanir; you took a pretty nasty spill there earlier. You've been out a whole a day, and it's been really busy on the farm. I know you just recovered, but I need you to help out here, now that you're getting older."

"What do you need me to do dad?"

"Well, since you just got up, why don't you go pick the weeds in empty fields? We just got a shipment of seeds in from town and we're going to need the space to start planting them. We have to get this planted, and in the ground, before harvest season, so we can pay our taxes. This isn't a joke; I can't have you climbing around on trees anymore Zanir!"

He told his father he would take care of the weeds. While he couldn't take back the past, the previous Zanir had been a slacker. He would do the best he could, moving forward.

Kevin was surprised, his son didn't talk back when he asked him to help out. Maybe that bump knocked some sense into him, he thought to himself.

Zanir walked back to the shed and grabbed the handle of a small wagon in the shed. It has a few tools on it, used for removing the weeds, like shears and a trowel for the leaves. It also had a big bucket on the back, for the weeds. He couldn't just leave them lying around everywhere, once he dug them up.

There were several fields on the farm since they lived out in the mountains and had to grow their own food. They paid a certain portion of their harvest to the city lord, as taxes for the land. It was an honest and simple life, that Zanir could respect.

He got to the empty field and saw that it had been left fallow for too long, having long since become overgrown. To his dismay, he saw that not only was the plants and crops larger in this world, but the weeds were huge as well.

He picked up the worn shears, approaching the giant weed, and clipped off several large portions of it.

Just as he was grabbing the clippings to throw into the basket, he heard a ding sound.

TL:DR if you like this book try "Bringing The Farm To Live In Another World" and/or "Farming life in another world" as well as "Otherworld Nation Founding Chronicles" I just came back after a two-year hiatus from reading this book expecting it to have hundreds of new chapters to read only to find a disillusioned author (Zicon) pissed that someone stole his baby. All I have to say is I'm disappointed. This was one of my favorite series going and the only reason why I didn't follow it more closely was because of the instability in updates which is reasonable as zicon was trying to get himself established in a career and was dealing with other stuff IRL. As explained throughout the comment section of this book for instance in chapter 78 where he told me he was away for 2 months because he was getting established in a new job, This was one of the best original web novels on WN it's a shame that it didn't get the attention it deserved. I blame the platform. Anyway, it would appear that Zicon isn't coming back so all I can do is find an alternative which I did its called "Bringing The Farm To Live In Another World" it has a similar premise and fell if you're looking for a new book to similar to this one check it out it gets updated regularly and currently has 1400~ chapters. Zicon actually said in his review for this book that he was inspired by "Bringing The Farm To Live In Another World" to write this. I would also recommend Isekai Nonbiri Nouka aka "Farming life in another world" It's a manga that currently has 130 chapters and is still going strong. it has a similar feel to both books but without the other dimension and the fighting. even without the fighting it still feels somehow like a kingdom building book through the fact that it uses diplomacy and trade to gain legitimacy if you liked "Farming life in another world" check out "Otherworld Nation Founding Chronicles" its pretty similar except it gets some fighting in later chapters. its currently got 135 chapters of its web novel translated and 43 of its manga translated. I saw someone recommend Low Dimensional Game but I have to disagree with that recommendation as that series protagonist is more like a dick of a god than an actual human being. it's filled with nonsensical plotlines and generally shitty characters. the few good characters get killed for the sake of creating an emotional impact on the reader. I dropped it at 397 chapters because of the depression it brought on. to make matters worse apparently the book doesn't even have a proper ending seeing as multiple people in their reviews say that the author dropped the book. The first 200~ chapters of the book are great but it kills itself in the later half just don't bother. anyway these are my recommendations take them or leave them it's up to you.
