Chapter 18
I got up to piss, my head complaining at even this, and as I emptied I thought on the detective I was supposed to be. Breaking rules right and left, though the company manual didn’t specifically ban fornication. What it addressed was morals and excess, restraint, and remaining upstanding. I’d always interpreted this to mean don’t be seen fucking around, but okay to do it. No job except maybe preacher can demand a man forgo his natural need. Still, I doubted the boss would appreciate my present state.
All this considering exhausted me, so I fell back onto the bed and slept.

Next time I woke, it was nearly noon. Getting upright this time was easier, and once cleaned up, I set out to get breakfast, hoping I’d run into the gang on my way.
