The butler interrupted Rayn with his head bowed. Rayn nodded at his words, gathering himself together. Rayn's gaze shifted toward the butler, who stood with his head respectfully bowed, avoiding eye contact.
Elise felt the rising tension in the room, but it wasn't a tension that felt foreign. It was the same kind she had been living in since… forever.
Silence. Secrets. Don't know anything just be protected. It just didn't change.
Whether it was Dietrich. Mom. Or, others. I can protect myself. Just stop hiding things from me.
Rayn nodded, pushing his chair back slightly. "You're right. We'll discuss this later, Elise."
"Discuss what?" Elise snapped, her voice rising before she could stop herself. "What exactly are we waiting for? You've been putting me off since I got here. I just wanna go back home."
