Chapter 4 | Demon, Saves The Day?

"Sh*t... I forgot to ask him where the briefcase was!"

Shadow walks up the stairs and proceeds to open every door he could possibly find. All the rooms are the same; dirty. Cigarette buds are spread everywhere and it's always gloomy or dark. He walks some more until he stumbles upon a door. Lights emit from the bottom peaking Shadow's interest. He walks in and finds what seems to be an office room. Sheets of paper are laying on the floor. Small furniture are flipped-over. The ceiling is in pieces letting in light enter the room.

"Wow, it really is day time. Time sure does fly" he exclaims.

He investigates the room further, stepping on the papers as he goes. He stops on front of a door at the far end of the room. It has a sign with words on it. It was poorly written and hard to decode. Shadow had a hard time puzzling the words together. Thinking he had enough, he kicked the door open with impatience. Revealing the loot, he finds stashed drugs, money and...

"Aha!! There you are!"

He swiftly grabs the suitcase and walks out of the room. On his way out, he bends over to read the words on the door he had previously knocked down on the floor.

"Storage!! It's storage.... However wrote that can't f*cking write."

Finishing his mission, he walks back towards the exit. Upon making it back to the room in which a massacre took place, he finds a trapdoor on the ground possibly leading to a basement. He probably thought it was where the thugs stored all the kids and woman to be sold. He looks at the door with a blank expression thinking to himself:

[This has nothing to do with me. You're a demon for Satan's sake.]

He calmly walks out of the dusty destroyed building and breaths a nice fill of fresh air. He puts the suitcase down on the cement floor and grabs his phone from his pocket. He dials a number and waits for someone to answer.

"Hello this is the DREAM-BONSAM whine shop, how may I help you"

Demons are cunning beings that like to hide in plane sight. That's why many companies such as "DREAM-BONSAM" are safe heavens for them. The name of a company is a clear sign of which demon runs it. In this case, "DREAM-BONSAM" can be deciphered into "DEMON_MARBAS". Although these are easily figured out. The government won't do anything. Especially to demons who are higher up in the hierarchy. It's a deal between the Demon Nobles and the government. Demons cannot intervened with their economy, politics nor can they cause massacres or expose their existence. In exchange, the human government gives them territory, rights in human society and they send certain prisoners sentenced with the death penalty to quench demons bloodlust. However, "liaisons" like Shadow are made to keep both parties from facing each other or prevent any attempts of betrayal.

"Wasn't it a beautiful night last night?" Shadow affirms.

"Hello mister shadow"

"Hey, you're supposed to finish the secret code." he says abruptly.

"My apologize sir Shadow, I didn't feel the need to do it since I knew it was you. I Apologize for my impudence"

"No need. Tell him that I got it and he better give me extra pay!"

"Yes sir, right away. The president asked me to tell you to bring his package where the moon meets the sun"

"Ok tell him I'll be there in one hour"

He takes a quick glance at the white van on front of the abandoned house and can't help but think of the little girl. He bites his lip and quickly says says:

"Actually tell him I'll need an extra 30 minutes. I got some unfinished business"

He ends the phone call and throws his phone on the ground breaking it into pieces. He runs at the basement door and punches it with his barehands. The trapdoor slams open and falls down to the basement floor. He jumps in and lands on his two feet with ease. The basement is dark and smelly. Multiple bottles of bear and metal bars can be seen at the end of the room. There lies all the prisoners. Surprisingly, one of the thugs remain alive.

"Looks like a cockroach managed to hide away from me" he says with a delighted expression

The man, shocked out of fear, grabs hold of one of the kidnapped women and takes her hostage. he pulls out a knife and points it on her throat making a small cut on her neck.

"Don't come close or I'll kill her!"

Unfortunately, Shadow ran out of patience and is currently in a bad mood. He grabs a knife and slices both of their throats clean. He then stretches out the metal bars wide enough for them to escape. All of them ran as fast as they could once they got out of the cell fearing that Shadow would do something horrible to them.

They all leave one by one. In the midst of the crowd, a small figure stands on front of him. It's the little girl again. He bends forward and presents his bloody hand on front of her face.

"Now that you've seen me kill someone, are you still willing to take my hand little girl?" he says with an amused face.

His face, without restraining his devilish emotions, can't help but smile awaiting her response. To his surprise, she puts her face on his blood stained hands and proceeds to hug his hand.

"W-What are you doing, I literally just killed someone right on front of you!!"

"I don't care, as long as I get some delicious tweats"

"......."

Shadow is displease. He would assume that the girl would run away just like any other human being would but, to his surprise, it went completely the opposite of what he had originally thought. Although, he doesn't feel mad. He feels more... content. Thinking that in his head, he pulls out a smirk.

"Come on, let's get you some more desserts shall we little girl?"

"My name is Layla!' Not little girl!" she screams without much success.

"Ok then... Layla"

"Can I get another one of the thing you got me before?"

"Haha, sure" as he lifts her and places her on his shoulders.
