Void stood there in sheer awe of what he had done. The six Fallen dregs slumped on the ground around him, lifeless.

All it had taken was mere seconds.

In shock, he stared down at his palms. Where did this ability come from?

He did not know.

Void's body moved to its instinct for the most part. The instinct of a hunter.

"Of course.."

He had almost forgotten that his body was a golden age corpse. A warrior that had fought for humanity and died.

Surely, the only explanation he could muster was the ingrained muscle memory within.

"Remarkable."

But his excitement was cut short as Void heard a sharp voice.

"Careful guardian, our skirmish has alerted the nearby fallen squads. My analysis shows that within five minutes, this location will be swarmed." ghost's voice alerted

The sudden alert brought him back to reality and he instantly began to move.

Peeking at the primed Fallen Pike that had appeared before him, Void rejoiced.

"Yeah let's go."

===

[ A few hours later]

A red streak could be seen zooming through the dark desert plains.

Void was riding the Fallen Pike at full speed, having left behind fallen territory and he now roamed the wastelands.

Unfortunately, while it was safer out here, there practically wasn't a single living thing roaming this part of earth.

Which meant that not only was Void completely alone, he was also completely helpless.

"Ghost, how much fuel is left in the tank." Void sighed

Noticing the bike slowing down slightly, Void knew the fuel wouldn't last long. It was best to take this opportunity to park somewhere relatively secluded and hidden.

"The vehicle has about 30 units of fuel left. Distance wise, we may only cross another 60 Km. According to our current trajectory, the fuel will run out in approximately 23 minutes and 45 seconds."

Void nodded, "Determine the best place to stop in our current trajectory, somewhere we won't be seen easily."

"Hmm..." its voice echoed

Void waited a few more minutes and finally he could see a marker placed on his HUD.

"I have marked a place about 30 Km on your map guardian. A hillside, near the shore. The topology suggests it's an aqua ravine. Chances of anyone stumbling upon us are close to none."

"Got it, thanks."

Void revved the pike and shot past as dust clouded behind him.

After wringing the fuel tank dry at maximum speed, they had reached two plain limestone cliffs, separating the desert biome from what he could only describe was the beach shore line.

As the bike sputtered its last few embers, Void stalled beside the cliff, slowly steering the bike to its underside.

"This is unexpected," ghost exclaimed.

The cliff had a hollow cave at its feet. Conveniently placed facing the shore.

Carrying ghost in his palm Void walked in cautiously.

Soon the ghost's light illuminated the dark cave interior. But all he could see were some scrap boxes lying around.

Trudging in a bit further, the cave system had further ravines that went very deep

His foot slightly clinked against the floor, and as he shined the light on the ground Void could see what had caused the noise.

"Rail lines?"

Ghost flew out of his hand, examining the rails closely with his laser scanners.

"Hmm, interesting. Guardian, these are golden age railing lines. I think we're in a mineshaft. Aqua ravine, a few hundred kilometers from the Russian supply line. It is possible that we've stumbled upon an old mining tunnel"

"Fascinating....But can this help us?" Void inquired cluelessly.

"I am afraid we cannot know anything unless we venture deep below. But my sensors are blocked by something. I cannot scan anything below 20 meters."

As soon as he heard about the sensors being interfered with, Void immediately knew not to venture deep into the mine tunnels.

He wasn't a coward, but to venture into unknown territory wasn't exactly what he wanted to do.

"That's fine, let's just linger around the surface. I still need to get used to my powers." Void replied.

He picked relatively flat ground and sat down, opening the menu.

Immediately he could see the "System" tab flashing repeatedly

"Of course, how could I forget." he mused

The remaining rewards for the quest....finally some good experience. Void licked his lips and clicked the system tab

Immediately a few prompts were thrust into his face.

* Choose a Subclass :

Nightstalker Gunslinger Blade dancer

===

Void looked onto the screen, baffled.

He had long waited to choose a subclass, but to think he simply needed to level up once.

But....now that he could finally choose a subclass.

Which one?

It was a complicated issue that he couldn't just breeze past.

A Blade dancer wasn't really something he could pull off. It was a reckless art that required relentless combat.

He preferred to lurk in the shadows, preparing to strike with a lethal blow...

In that case, only Nightstalker or Gunslinger awaited.

Unfortunately, as things remained he was clueless as to whether he could switch later on. Surely he could multiclass these right?

"Nightstalker it is"

Suddenly, Void felt as if the space around him had warped. He felt a strange membrane around space. Something he could manipulate.

"Is this void energy?"

===

"The void welcomes you in its embrace."

* Nightstalker subclass Achieved!

+ Nightstalker Lv. 1/10

===

This was what he was missing, the power in his hands right now...If he had this previously, the dregs wouldn't even stand a chance.

The vortex grenade, the smoke melee, the double jump.... and lastly

The super ability... Shadow shot.

Void was still unable to perform it but he could certainly feel the possibility.

Looking at the HUD, the super bar was only half full...

If he could completely fill it up, it would be a simple task to obliterate a fallen captain. Excited about his new powers he opened the status screen.

~Spectral Shade: In combat, enemies have a higher probability of losing your presence if you break line of sight.

====

He could see a slight modification to the primary weapon...That's right he did gain some weapon aptitude...and new combat perks...

Void was slightly familiar with the concept of perks, but it seems he had gained an uncommon ability.

'Spectral shade', the name surely sounded cool. But the fact that it said probability meant that it was an unlikely occurrence.

He remained brooding in his own thoughts, thinking of different ways to combine his abilities.

The fact that he wasn't limited by a 'game' was outstanding. The possibilities were endless.

A double jump into a shadow shot, coupled with smoke to make myself disappear. A completely stealthy approach where he could simply smoke in and sneak around to assassinate enemies. He had to admit, the concept was thrilling.

"Guardian, quick come take a look at this" Ghost voiced out

"What's going on?" Void responded, scuttling over immediately

"Don't you see this?"

Ghost pointed towards some strange letters inscribed in golden ink on the wall.

"This is?"

"Golden age encrypted language." Ghost immediately analyzed the rest of the text.

" If my analysis is right, then we've hit the goldmine. Golden age exports were managed by Arcadia class Jumpships. Chances are there's some old ships docked inside the mining stations below. Probably stowed away gathering rust. If we can hack into those ships, we'll easily reach the Tower."

"You mean to say you want us to go down there?" Void said, pointing towards the dark obscured mine shaft tunnel.

"I think it's worth a shot guardian." Ghost responded

Though he wasn't in the mood to go down there, seeing as he desperately needed a ship….

'Beggars can't be choosers'

Besides, with his new void subclass, he was eager to fight anything he encountered... in moderation of course.

Taking a deep breath in, Void took a leap of faith and his vision turned to pitch black.
