Night Owl

She pulled the blankets up over her head, sometimes pretending to sleep made her feel more normal, today wasn't one of those days. She sighed throwing the covers off. After a long day of doing nothing, it was time to get ready for work, ready to walk into a closed up office and sit behind a desk for hours. The moon shined brightly, full, and beautiful, she would much rather sit outside under the stars and moon. With a full moon out she didn't have to follow the rules. Even normal humans felt as she did; several times her colleagues talked about the power of the full moon and how it drives them crazy.  Crazy with passion, desire, and some kind of wild animal instinct to pounce on anyone who gets close enough.

Her instincts, not human and not really animal, but the instinct to slide out her door unnoticed, run to the woods, find her secret spot where she could see the moon, the full moon, light up the world, and pull off her skin cover.  She then would lie on the grass and allow the soft dew to caress her true skin.  She could cast spells, if only she had the moon light.  She could change, if only she had the dew covered caress.  She could have beauty, if only she could go to her spot.

She threw her legs off the bed and pulled open her heavy blinds, the moon light hid behind the buildings.  She had no urge to harm humans but if they all vanished and the world went back to nature she would not complain.  She dressed in her t-shirt, jeans, tennis shoes, and blue baseball cap. She looked at herself in the bathroom mirror before brushing her teeth. She then opened the doors that took her to the outside world. One turn a different direction would take her to the small wood outside of town. The other to work, to normality. Maybe, just maybe, tonight she would quit her job, she didn't need it anyway. Why work when you can live off the land? Why live in society? Why pretend to be a normal human?

She locked her door and turned, name tag in hand, she would go to work, she wouldn't quit.  She wouldn't chance not having a normal life. It was too scary to live in this world and not be "normal."

She was beautiful and wild but humans killed beauty.  Not only kill it but cage the lifeless beauty.  If a human could put the sky in a jar until it suffocates they would and then they would put it on a shelf for all their friends. Often she has seen butterflies pinned up on walls with needles in their wings and spines.  She didn't want that, so she went to work.  She pretended to be a night owl though she didn't need sleep.  Weak humans would continue to control her life.  One day she would not fear them, one day she would run free and lay on her soft grass.  One day, maybe the next full moon?

Poem: Awaken

At times when

you are just so very tired,

you can wake up feeling

different emotions.

Sadness, anger, joy,

hyperness, and loneliness.

Loneliness is a powerful emotion.

Lonely is probably

the hardest emotion

to get out of.

Sadness, anger, and hyperness

can be cured watching

calming, funny, or cute videos,

sleeping more,

or even just

putting your mind on other things.

Loneliness is only cured by

being held and loved

by someone.

No strings.

Usually a specific person.

The longer you are apart,

the more tired you are,

the sadder you are,

the lonelier you are.

Getting free becomes impossible.

It becomes apart of you.

Slowly dying on the inside.

Loneliness can tear you apart.

Don't wake up.

Stay asleep.

Dream of their arms around you.

Awaken and accept your fate

Done

The day

Like a naked flower.

Nothing more than a silken stick.

A soft, frail line

That day,

That horrible day.

The sky dark,

Like light had given up on humanity.

Unaware.

Unnamed.

Undone.

Time slowed

Like rain on fabric.

Her life ending,

Her world behind her.

Betrayal.

Beauty.

Disaster.

She pressed her finger to her lips,

Silencing her very breath.

Life escaped her momentarily.

Then, gasping,

It all came back.

She was under

Her own spell.

A life worse than death.

Her child.

Her life.

Not there anymore.

or dream forever.

This story is a little shorter than the others. I like this one because it can express how sometimes the things that make us different and powerful can be scary. I attached a couple poems to this one as well.
