The DHA Entrance Exam

The plane left through the portals and the next instant they were somewhere in the sky very far away from Chester Field. This was a very new and exciting experience for Kelvin after all this was his first and official flight.

"Dude this Is so cool; this jet is super sick and also the portal back there, are we going to learn how to do something like that in the academy?"

Kelvin asked with excitement in his eye.

"The Demon Hunting Academy is the only place where they teach demon hunters how to use divine powers, so yes we are definitely going to learn how to do that." Carl answered.

Inside the jet had the same set up as a modern airplane; there were three seats on each row. Kelvin sat close to the window while Carl sat down next to him, however seating next to Carl close to the aisle was a cherry looking guy with a bushy blonde hair that covered one of his eye; the guy's weapon was an arrow that had a really sophisticated design. And also, for some reason, the guy was smiling to himself.

Kelvin and Carl hadn't said anything to blonde bushy haired guy since the start of the flight. They decided it was best to keep conversation with their fellow examines to a minimum. To them, this was the best choice as they do not know the nature of the exams and wouldn't want to risk giving away too much information.

Kelvin looked out the window and all he could see was an ocean of water. The sky was bright and also gave of a clear blue glow. So far the flight to the exam venue was smooth and also quiet; none of the exam candidates had said a word since they left the demon hunting base back in Chester Field. This created an awkward atmosphere in the jet, because some of the exam candidates had already taken the practical exam two or three times and failed, while this was the first time for the rest of the candidates like Kelvin and Carl.

The jet continued to move towards its plotted course; the entire flight so far was really boring and Carl had already drifted off to sleep. It continued like that for a few more hours, until Kelvin started to notice something through the window. Everything seemed normal for some time; but when the jet reached a certain range, the entire background in front of them started to change. At first, up front, there was only the ocean and the sky; but suddenly the air started to distort and gradually the island started to appear.

When Kelvin saw this, he woke Carl up.

"Hey! Carl wake up, I think we have arrived at Glenview isles."

Carl stretched and blinked a few times before he looked through the window. The moment he saw the island the sleep in his eye vanished.

"Whoa!! The island is way bigger than I imagined." Carl said, looking at the massive island in astonishment.

"Yeah, and it sort of appeared out of nowhere." Kelvin replied back.

"Oh, I've heard of that. They say the academy uses a special type of divine power to conceal the island from the public."

"Yes you're right. Did you also know that the island is an artificial island built by the demon hunters?"

Kelvin and Carl turned to see who made the last comment; looking back at them, was the blonde bushy haired guy that sat down next to Carl.

"Sorry, I'm just as excited as you are. This is also my first time taking the exam; by the way, my name is Ray Hugh." The blonde bushy haired guy said, introducing himself.

"That's okay, my name is Kelv…"

Carl immediately elbowed Kelvin, thereby stopping him from completing his sentence. Kelvin suddenly realized his mistake and corrected himself.

"Sorry my name is Ken Wilson and my friend right here is Carl Barrett."

"It's nice to meet you guys." Ray said.

"Yeah, it's nice to meet you too. You said something about the island being artificial; is it true?" Carl asked.

"Yes it is; the entire organization spent a lot of money in building the island. They built the island so that it can be used as a secret location for the academy." Ray explained.

Looking from a bird's eye view, through the jet window, they could see the entire island, which was surrounded by a tall and thick wall; also there was a really large and tall building that was positioned in the center of the island.

Kelvin, Carl and Ray thought they would be taking the exam in the academy; so they were confused when the jet passed the island and instead went for a smaller looking island with a lot of trees, and was also next to the main island.

The jet carried on towards the smaller island, after some time, when the jet reached on top of the smaller island, the AI in the jet announced a really confusing message.

<Congratulations, you have now arrived at your destination. Prepare for drop off>

After the AI delivered the message, bags dropped down from the jet ceiling and landed directly on each of the exam candidates.

Kelvin was confused; he looked behind him and saw that the older exam candidates that had taken the exam before were holding onto the bags from the ceiling as tight as possible like their life depended on it. He looked at Carl, who also wore a confused look on his face. Kelvin looked at his own bag from the jet ceiling.

"Wait; don't tell me "drop off" means…"

Kelvin couldn't complete his sentence, because at that very moment, the jet started coming apart in the air. The cockpit and the jet wings broke off and a huge gust of wind brew into the jet. The seat belts automatically disengaged and everything was been sucked outside including the examinees.

Kelvin grabbed his sword and tried to grab hold of anything to use as support; he could barely hear anything due to the huge amount of wind blowing around him. Kelvin looked to his side, only to see Carl hanging on tightly to his seat as the wind threatened to suck him out.

Kelvin reached out and tried to grab him but before he could reach Carl, the seat came off and the Carl got sucked outside.

The air pressure in the jet continued to increase and gradually the window next to Kelvin started to crack, until the window shattered into piece. This increased the air pressure a lot, causing half of the jet on Kelvin's side to come off. The wind was too strong and eventually Kelvin got sucked out too.

Kelvin was descending at an incredible speed towards the small island. He opened his eye and squinted, looking far off at a distant. He saw a different jet, which was similar to the one he was on. The jet also came apart and surprisingly, some of the exam candidates from the jet, had deployed a parachute from the bags that fell from the jet ceiling earlier.

"So the bags from earlier were parachutes." Kelvin thought.

"I have to find one."

With that in mind he looked around and tried to see if he can spot any parachute bags. He lost his own during the chaos and now he was really desperate to find one before he collides with the ground.

Kelvin saw a parachute off in the distance, and grabbed it. After putting on the parachute bag, he was totally lost on what to do next. It was at that moment that he realized he had never used a parachute before.

"Shit!! How the hell do I use this stuff? If I remember some sky diving movies correctly they usually pull a chord. Yes I just have to pull the damn chord."

Kelvin reached out behind him and was desperately searching for the chord. It was only a couple of minutes before he would reach the island. He eventually found the chord and pulled it hard, causing the parachute to eject out with force, jerking him backwards.

The parachute vastly reduced his speed to the point that he was smoothly descending into the island. Not long after that he landed on the small island, in a part that was densely populated with trees and vegetation.

Kelvin decided to catch his breath. He was confused on what to do next; luckily for him, he still had his sword gifted to him by George. He looked up to scan his surroundings.

"What do I do now? Has the exam begun? And Carl, I really hope he is alright."

As Kelvin was contemplating on what to do, a voice started to echo throughout the island.

"Welcome exam candidates, to the Demon Hunting Academy's practical entrance examination. The theme of this year's exam is called The Beast Wave. The rules of the exam are simple; all candidates are to head to the area with the green light beacon."

Kelvin looked up and saw a green light shoot up into the sky from a distant location. And after that the echoing voice continued,

"Along the way, you all will encounter different waves of demonic beasts. Kill them in other to earn points; the number of points you have will determine if you will pass the exam or not. A time limit will be set, and if any candidates fail to reach the green beacon within the specified time, he or she will be disqualified. I wish you all Good luck."

That ended the message from the echoing voice.
