Feng Hei Lang watched him walk past her. 'Wait a second...I've seen him twice now and even seen him in a photo, but I can never remember what he looks like! Is there an artifact or something blurring out his face?'
She was deep in thought when she went back to her dormitory. 'Oh well, I'll figure it out later.' Feng Hei Lang spent the rest of the day trying to successfully do [Dancing Dagger].
~~~~~
Feng Hei Lang stretched and awoke from bed. 'Ah...I almost stayed awake all night trying to do the skill that Master Xue showed me...I only managed to make the dagger go forward! SO ANNOYING!'
She placed Xing on her shoulder and decided to skip breakfast. "Xing, we'll do some commissions later so I can get us a nice meal!"
She started walking towards the courtyard for her first class.
A voice called out from behind her. "Hei Lang! Good morning!"
She turned around to see a fox in human form with light blue ears and a tail. Feng Hei Lang tilted her head. "Kang Lei...?"
He nodded. "Yup, it's me! I mastered this human form yesterday!" He swirled around in a smooth motion.
Feng Hei Lang giggled. "You're so childish. C'mon. We're going to be late for class!"
Both of them chatted as they went up to the courtyard where Instructor Le Yi was waiting. Almost everyone was there, and everyone was in human form.
Instructor Le Yi frowned when she saw Feng Hei Lang and Kang Lei in human form. "Tch...Guess I won't be deducting any tallies for now..."
Feng Hei Lang dipped her head in a greeting and sat cross-legged on the ground. Kang Lei did the same next to her.
Soon after, everyone arrived. Instructor Le Yi clapped her hands together to begin class. "Ahem! Today, we're going to be learning about fighting techniques. When in human form, it is more conventional to use human weapons since we don't have claws. Pick a weapon." She laid out many different kinds of weapons in front of her.
There were swords, daggers, maces, axes, bows, whips, and even just a staff. Instructor Le Yi picked up one of the staffs. "I'll be using this for demonstration since it doesn't have any sharp edges. However, the rest of you can pick whatever you want. You may even pick more than one. I have plenty of these."
Feng Hei Lang walked up to the stash. 'She did say we can pick more than one...I'm practicing the [Dancing Dagger] technique, so I should use a dagger. However, it might be nice to have a bow too...In my old world, I did competitive archery for a while. It should be fine!'
She quickly browsed through the bows and picked a nice, curved ebony one. Then, she picked up three to four daggers.
Kang Lei poked her and said, "Hey, look what I got!" He held up a two swords. One was blue while the other was black.
Feng Hei Lang tilted her head. "You know swordplay?"
He grinned. "Never tried it! However, I read a lot of books on it when I was young. It was required for me, so all I have to do is apply it! Although it is much harder than I thought to move..."
She laughed. "You'll get used to it."
Soon, the pile of weapons became nothing but air. Only a spare dagger and an axe was left behind. Feng Hei Lang quickly grabbed the spare dagger and slipped it inside her shadow.
Instructor Le Yi picked up the axe and threw it onto the side. "Alright. First, we'll all learn the most basic movement technique. It's called [Sidestep]. You simply have to step to the side. But the purpose is to only step a tiny bit, so that you don't have to move a lot." She pointed at Ting, one of the three red fox triplets. "Student Ting, try attacking me with that whip you're holding."
Ting started waving the whip around and slashing it towards Instructor Le Yi. However, no matter how much force he put into his lashes, it couldn't even touch her. It looked as if the whip was avoiding her, but in reality, she was simply dodging.
Feng Hei Lang smiled. 'This technique is a great pair with [Flashing Steps]! [Sidestep] seems more for when you are engaged in combat while [Flashing Steps] is more like small burst of teleportation.'
Ting stopped waving the whip around, completely out of breath. He panted and Instructor Le Yi gave him a pat on the back. "Not bad. As you can see, [Sidestep] is simply just moving out of a strike's way. If you master it, it just becomes instinctual. Now, find a partner and start practicing. Make sure not to damage them too much."
Kang Lei poked her. "Wanna be my partner? I'll try not to hurt you."
Feng Hei Lang smirked. "Hah! Sure." She moved into position with two daggers in her hand, each attached by a thin unnoticeable thread. She nodded and Kang Lei who nodded back.
She used a thin line of spiritual energy conducted through the thread to push the daggers out of her hand. They started spiraling towards him. As if she was playing piano, Feng Hei Lang moved her fingers in a dance.
The daggers swerved left and right, flying towards Kang Lei. He brought up his swords and started slashing to defend from the daggers.
The daggers clattered to the other side, but with a wave from Feng Hei Lang's arm, they instantly flew back at him.
