Somewhere in the Kingdom of Talmyra, the tundra of Northern World. Years before Aida joined the inquisition.
I
The older sister sat with her sister in a small hut. While they were waiting for the rain outside to finish, the younger sister pulled the cloth of her sister's clothes. She put her hand on her rumbling stomach, the older sister knew what she wanted.
"I'm hungry, Aida," said the sister.
"Relax, Karin. Please wait until tomorrow, then I'll buy you some food. Okay?" entertain Aida.
"But my stomach hurts so bad. I-I guess.." The little sister fell off her chair mid-spoke.
Aida panicked and immediately lifted her little sister onto the matress. She wrapped her arms around her body in pain. The little girl covered her mouth, Aida saw her sister who was holding back nausea. She panicked, Aida started rummaging through her house looking for a coin that could buy her sister a loaf of bread.
She did not find the coin at all, the sister had run out of money. She knew the debt had gone through the roof, and their condition was already ging through her house looking for a coin that could buy her sister a loaf of bread.
She did not find the at all, the sister had run out of money. She knew the debt had gone through the roof, and their condition was already in the lowest part of life. Aida returned to her sister and made her comfortable by covering her cold body with a cloth that only covered her upper body.
"Calm down, Karin. I will find food, stay strong," Aida stroked her sister's head.
She ran out of the house and her body was immediately soaked by the rain. She ran in her broken sandals, and she walked without any light except for the bright moon. They live in the middle of nowhere in the tundra of the northern world, cold and isolated from other life.
Aida ran to a village far from her hut, her body began to shiver throughout the cold journey at night. For hours she walked by following the direction of the road that could be seen closely.
Finally she saw a burning torch in the distance, the village she was looking for was in sight. The night was getting colder, time was running with every step she took. Aida's sister is now waiting for her with pain that she can't imagine.
Aida walks on the unoccupied village streets in the rain. The sound of the water pouring down in congregation makes the rural people numb to the sounds outside them.
The older sister was standing there, right in front of a wooden house. Her muscles tensed, her heart beat fastwhat she wants? Is there any other way to help her sister? Stealing is certainly wrong. Stealing from those who are, breaking the rules and risking being caught... or being attacked by a rural mob.
However, her sister is now sickly and needs her sister's help. Aida didn't want her sister to leave her, she just didn't want to see the child sick in front of her eyes. A look like that could not Aida see.
Aida began to look around her, fear smothering her dazed mind. Anyone who lives in house certainly enjoys the comfort of life that Aida and Karin have never felt.
The older sister sat on the edge of a row of wooden fences, her clothes starting to get dirty with sticky mud. She ponders whether will she do it, she just doesn't know who is in the house. Are they in trouble too? Or they live with pleasure of the world, because it certainly looks like it. It is also possible that the person living in the house has the same difficulties as Aida but on another level that she is not familiar with.
Aida cries with nature, she is depressed and doesn't understand what she should do. For a few minutes she sat there, her moans inaudible to those whose heads were kept awake by the planks and bodies in the fire.
Aida finally snap back to her sense, wiping the tears from her eyes below the rains. Her body which was covered by mud walked towards the stairs of the wooden house. She tried to open the door, and thankfully it wasn't locked.
Aida saw a small kitchen in the room she entered. No one was there, but the stove fire was still burning with the wood. She saw that there was a pot being cooked, she opened the lid of the pot and saw that there was a meal being cooked.
In the next room heard the sound of people talking, Aida immediately panicked. She began to open every shelf in the kitchen, she hoped she would find food for her sister to eat.
She found a loaf of bread, only a few pieces left. She immediately took the bread and tucked it under her wet shirt. She heard the sound of feet approaching the kitchen, her heart started to jump. Aida found a bag containing cheese and bread, and immediately ran away from the house. Her feet left muddy footprints, and her tracks disappeared into the darkness.
Aida ran quickly without looking back because there she heard a loud scream that was quite loud. She didn't stop running, chasing time to give her sister what she needed. Her body tensed, not expecting her to steal from someone.
She didn't want to think about it, but it stuck in her head. Written into the mind of the girl. Is this worth it? Will they find her? If they find her, what happens to her sister?
Aida sheds tears and runs away from the lives of those people, wanting to close the lives of both of them from the world that is evil to them.
Running in the tundra forest, the older sister fell and all the eggs she was carrying broke in a slam. Aida sat there and felt her hands on the ground, feeling the eggs have cracked.
"No...no..." she said in disbelief. "There must have been eggs that survived, there must be," her hand felt the contents of the bag full of eggshells.
The yolks and whites began to seep into the sac and fall to the wet ground. She insulted herself, blamed herself for the carelessness. She stood up again with a fragile body and walked back to her house with all her might.
II
She opened the door and saw her sister rolled up. Aida immediately took the bread, it turned out that almost all of the bread had been wet. The older sister gave the dry bread the same as the cheese which she kept in the bag.
Karin chewed it voraciously, the older sister fed her sister until the pain went away. When her sister fell asleep, Aida sat beside her. Her heart felt uneasy, thinking about what had happened. Not being able to sleep is not only because of taking care of Karin, Aida is restless about what she just did. She regrets what she did, but is this regret true? She thought it would be easy, yet this feeling tortured her. If she doesn't steal, her sister could have left her forever. She couldn't escape the thoughts that were swirling around her head. She sat there and was tormented by her actions.
