Yoo Na and Cha Eun went to her house to proceed with their investigations. The footages would take hours so they had to do it in her house, they couldn't do it in his house since his father already didn't like her as she was a low class but he didn't mind doing it in her house either. Her parents weren't home as it was a Saturday and they'd arrive during nighttime, so they had privacy to themselves.
They settled down in her room and Yoo Na didn't want to waste any more time as they started going through the footages, with the laptop on a small table.
Cha Eun played the footages, one by one and Yoo Na scribbled down the plate numbers of every car that passed through the clip on a notepad. They dedicated so much time as they strained their eyes to figure out the numbers that weren't very clear in the footage. Hours passed them by as they paid focus intently with squinted eyes peering into the laptop.
After they were done scribbling all the plate numbers down, they still had to find the plate number that recurred in the list of the plate numbers they scribbled down on the small notepad. It was a very long list and it seemed like it would take forever to find a recurring plate number in that impossibly long list, even Cha Eun was perplexed that they had written down that much amount of plate numbers down in hours.
Yoo Na felt like she was closer to finding the killer, she could feel it, she could feel the building hope in her that she was near her goal. She was so determined to catch the killer and she was so engrossed in finding the recurring plate number that she didn't realize it was getting dark. Cha Eun placed his hand on hers to stop her for a minute.
"Take a rest, Yoo Na." Cha Eun said and her gaze stopped on his hand on hers which he quickly pulled away.
"You can rest if you want, I'm fine." Yoo Na said with a flat tone and returned her attention to the notepad, screening her eyes through the plate numbers for a recurring plate number.
"Even if we don't find it today, we can find it tomorrow, it's not about being tired, I also want to find the killer as much as you do." Cha Eun said with a stern expression as he stared at the girl who was fully engrossed in what she was doing, but she paused abruptly when she heard him speak.
"I don't want to find it tomorrow, I want to find it today, but if you don't want to, you can leave." Yoo Na said with a hard voice and he scoffed.
"Ahh you're so rude, I'm very sure you've always been this rude." Cha Eun said as he smacked his tongue but she didn't reply anymore as she continued with what she was doing.
"Fine then, we'll find it today, but I'm hungry, I want to eat Ramen." Cha Eun said with a famished expression and she rolled her eyes as he nagged a lot, presumably like rich kids did, but she knew he was different.
"It's in the fridge." She replied with a blank face as she stared at him and a smile reached his lips.
"Ahh, I thought I was going to starve, should I make Ramen for you too?" Cha Eun asked her but she shook her head negatively. He knew not to bother her as she sighed in exasperation because of his annoying nagging.
He went out of the room, towards the fridge and took out a packet of Ramen, then he went towards the kitchen and started cooking it. Yoo Na watched him for a minute since the house was so small and the kitchen was literally next to her room, she was surprised that he didn't nag her to cook for him because she knew most rich kids were too pampered to even boil water themselves. She returned her gaze to the notepad as she focused back on what she was doing.
A few minutes later, Cha Eun came in with a bowl of Ramen and sat next to her on the floor, paying attention to what she was doing as he ate the Ramen, he made splurging sounds that annoyed Yoo Na and she sighed heavily as she immediately shot him a glare.
"Eat that Ramen silently or I'll chug it down your throat!" She said with a low growl and he froze.
"It's impossible to eat Ramen silently." Cha Eun complained.
"I'm trying to focus here, aisshh! You better eat it silently." She warned and he sighed before eating the food as silently as possible till he was done.
The skies soon got dark and Cha Eun saw a smile form on her lips and she didn't need to tell him why. They had finally found a recurring plate number and when they observed more efficiently, the car recurred in all of the footages which made her smile widen and her hope elevated. This was just the first step to her revenge, she felt like she was at the verge of breakthrough, she could feel it or maybe it was just the adrenaline rushing in her veins.
"So how do we know who the owner of the car is?" Yoo Na asked Cha Eun, anticipating to hear that his father had friends he could ask for help.
"We have logistics in the company, I could ask Dae Hyun to..."
"No!" She exclaimed immediately, interrupting him.
"You're still suspecting him?" Cha Eun asked with a sarcastic voice.
"Not really, I'm just being careful, we can't trust anyone, it's too risky." Yoo Na explained and he nodded understandingly but he knew she still had her suspicions.
"Fine, I made some friends in the logistics, I could ask them personally for database on the profile of the car owner." Cha Eun said and she nodded in acceptance, that was a much better idea, she couldn't take any risks especially when she was dealing with someone as dangerous and cunning as the anonymous gift killer.
"Good, can you do it tomorrow?" Yoo Na asked with eagerness in her voice.
"I will." He replied and a small smile garnished her face, leaving him frozen as he gawked at her beauty, her face softened and she looked so serene and beautiful when she smiled, but it was only for a short while because the smile disappeared from her face as quickly as it came, replacing it with her usual stoic face.
"Yoo Na." Cha Eun called and she paid attention to what he was about to say.
"After everything, after we catch the killer, get our revenge...." He paused abruptly as he stared at her and she saw emotions swirling in his eyes as he stared at her.
"Then what?" She asked with a low voice.
"I have something to tell you, but I'll tell you after everything." Cha Eun said but she kept silent even though she was very well aware of what he wanted to say. She knew he wanted to confess his feelings for her but she wasn't ready for any of that, she wasn't sure she could ever open her heart to truly feel love or even worse, reciprocate it. If only he knew how black her heart had turned and how crushed her soul had become from pain and darkness, he would be able to understand that she was someone that shouldn't be given love neither was she someone to be expecting it from.
....
Dae Hyun sat in his office listening to the audio resonating in his eardrums from the ear pods placed in them. He listened to Yoo Na's and Cha Eun's conversation and a wicked smirk appeared on his face. 'Too sad, they would never be able to be together even though she reciprocated his feelings because I would make sure Cha Eun died in her arms, it would be such a heartwarming scene to watch' Dae Hyun thought inwardly and he let out a dark chuckle as his devious thoughts ran through his dark mind.
