DEATH'S OWN

Born with an unusual birthmark, the shape of a skeleton’s head with rose patterns round about it on her neck, many believed she would only bring bad luck to those around her. This belief was solidified when two of her suitors died unexpectedly right after a visit to her home. Such a thing should come as a bother to any woman but the same could not be said about Nyx. She didn't care if the beliefs about her were true or false. She never liked any of her suitors. Her heart had always been longing for a certain man whom she was very familiar with in her childhood but ceased to appear before her the moment she entered adolescence. Since she knew him one thing was very certain about him, he was not human since he never aged. Not even once. Believing he would one day come again, Nyx was prepared to wait until the day they would meet again. But not everything goes as planned. Having a sickly mother whose only wish was to see her daughter get married and an influential suitor who didn't mind the deaths around her, Nyx soon found herself married off and her mother passed away leaving a father who dreaded her existence and a husband she never loved. **** From a distance he watched her grow, keeping his distance from her, staying within the shadows. As she aged slowly into adulthood, the mark on her neck became more prominent and so was her scent. He wanted her to grow, but when she finally came of age, he thought she would be better without him. But as time wore on and other men began to show interest in her, he could not hold back nor could he let them have her. He discarded those who had an interest in her but one of them slipped through his fingers while he was away and took her. He waited to see if she was happy with her life, with that man, if she was, then he would let her be. She would be able to live a happy life this time unlike the previous one, but everything changed when the forces from the underworld learned of her existence and her connection with him. Her husband was killed which he permitted and her life was in constant danger. Keeping the distance was no longer an option and he once again appeared before her.

Happy Pet... Unhappy Master

"Do you think he will do anything to that human?" A woman dressed in red asked. She had dark hair and a figure that could make any model out there jealous. Her outfit exposed her sides and only covered the front and back. Her pear-shaped eyes had a slit iris of green and gold.

"What he decides to do is none of my concern," the man who was asked replied, and the woman growled at him.

"You are the one using that human, aren't you afraid you will lose a tool, Hades?" the woman asked, his gold eyes turned sharp on her. But she smirked, walked behind him, and wrapped her hands around him and her chin placed on his shoulder. "I don't care what he does to him either. After all, I want to be the only one who catches your eyes. Any other woman, human, devil, or monster. Dead or alive, I don't want to see them around you or him," She cupped his chin and spun his head so he would look at her. "So why don't you kill them both?" She asked with a pleasant smile.

Anger was written all over Hades' face, but she didn't seem to mind. She didn't even mind when he took control and slammed her against a wall with a grip on her neck. Rather, she grinned.

"No one is allowed to touch her, not even you, do you understand?" He uttered. Anyone who had him would know that it was not a baseless threat, but she snorted and swatted his hand away.

"Then stop me," she said, her expression switching immediately. He gave her that threat, but it returned to that of a happy, smiling woman the very next second.

Out of anger, Hades severed her neck, spreading her head from her body, but she disappeared, and a burst of laughter was heard.

"Still as rough as always, I see. That is why I like you so much, Hades," the voice said, and another fit of laughter was heard before it finally died down, and quietness settled.

Hades stared at the empty space as his expression hardened. A dark glint appeared n his eyes before he also disappeared.

Dressed in a tailored maid black tuxedo, Skye was seated behind the big brown mahogany desk, and his countenance was bright compared to the previous days. Although, the discomforting gaze still lingered. He was not as much affected by it today.

"That would be all for now. You may leave," he said l, dismissing his secretary.

"Yes sir," the man said and exited the room but not before taking a second look at his boss, who was acting differently since coming to the office this morning. His mood had affected the workers for the past few days, and today offered them a breather from the heavy atmosphere that surrounded their boss.

Right after he left, a man dressed in black and his mood as gloomy as the sky before a heavy thunderstorm.

Skye's vibrant countenance shattered at the mere sight of him; he wished the earth under his feet would open and swallow him before the man could open his mouth to utter a word. But not all wishes come true as he was seated in the same space as the man.

"You look quite happy today, Mr Morgan," the man uttered with a faint smile that failed to reach his eyes. Skye was silent as he knew the man still had more to say. "But why is it so different for me? Shouldn't we be happy together, or I will be happy and you are the opposite?"

Skye frowned as the expression changed as he spoke on. Sensing the danger around him, he stood up and pushed the seat backwards to be able to move freely. "What are you trying to say?" He looked suspiciously at him, but a smile returned to the man's lips. His gold colored eyes became brighter for some reason unknown to Skye.

"I am saying it unfair that the pet be happy while it's master is unhappy." He leaned back on the chair he sat on, but this got Skye even more worrying. With every word that he said, the atmosphere became more tense than it was previously. This man came here today with murderous intent.

He suddenly sat up, and Skye took a step back. He smiled, seemingly amused by the human before him.

"The reason I wanted you to marry her was because I thought if someone did, he wouldn't want her or at least keep his distance from her. He clearly still wants but keeps his distance. That is one mission accomplished," Slowly, he rose to his feet, and Skye took even more steps back. "But now, you want to take what is beyond your reach. Take what is not yours. How should I deal with a little ungrateful pet such as yourself?"

He appeared in front of Skye in the blink of an eye with a hand to his neck. "Answer before I strangle you," he commanded.

"I do not understand what you mean," Skye said. He got the idea, but he refused to be fearful and beg this devil for anything. He has ruined his life enough to have him keep begging him. Nyx was his wife and, therefore, his right to have. Death may have claimed her, but he was not against Nyx's marriage to him. This devil had absolutely no right to say that to him.

The man chuckled, let go of him, and slapped him. The slap had Skye staggering back and then fell on his knees. He felt a warm liquid fill his mouth, and he knew he was bleeding inside. He then spat out the blood and wiped his lips, looked up at the man with hatred in his eyes.

"Now you know how to act as a pet should. Grovelling at its master's feet," the man said with a smirk. He placed a finger under Skye's chin and said, "If you touch her, I will make your life a living hell," he let go and disappeared.

Skye felt as though strength had left him whole. His head sacked down, his hand balled into fists, yet he felt so powerless and pathetic. Why was it that whenever he felt a Ray of joy shining down on him, someone would always come and take it away?

Summoning up courage, he stood up and walked into the restroom to clean up, and after that, he left the office. His middle was once again ruined.
