Chapter 14 - Family

 Jump City. Cairo's Bar.

Scarlett sat on the roof of the limo as she waited. Fortunately she did not have to wait long, as whenever one of their people was in trouble, these heroes always came running along. They seemed to have a tendency to go full force when someone got the best of one of them.

Like now, Scarlett jumped off the roof just as a yellow flash came speeding towards her. But she quickly chanted a spell and the flash came to a halt as he fell over the ground a few times before crashing into the limo. It was Kid Flash wrapped up in red flames, it was the form her magic naturally took. At the moment he was wrapped up in red flame chains from a spell she cast.

Kid Flash grunted in pain as he looked up from the ground while covered in dirt, "ahh… that hurt. How did you do that? Is this some kind of polymer or semi-liquid that-" Scarlett chanted something else and a flaming ball gag was placed on him as well.

The Flashes' were opponents that she did not want to outright fight. Because their speed was not something she could realistically match nor fight on an even playing field against. Which is why she learned this spell before anything else.

After another moment an armored vehicle which she recognized as their truck and Starfire flying above it arrived.

Starfire came flying straight towards her. "Where is he?!?" Starfire screamed as she went to punch Scarlett with a green powered fist.

But instead of hitting her mark. Her fist was caught and Scarlett spun them around and threw her at the truck. She slammed into the truck causing the front part to cave in. Batman, Wonder Girl, and Aqualad jumped out of the sides of the truck as the truck skidded across the street and into the abandoned building.

"Hey Bats!" Scarlett waved while she started doing a few stretches.

"Batman, who is this woman? She just took out two of ours like it was nothing." Aqualad asked while he pulled out his magical water swords.

"This is Scarlett, she is one of the reasons all our electronic systems are compromised. She is also incredibly strong, it might be better to-"

"In that case, she should be a good opponent!" Wonder Girl yelled as she ran towards Scarlett. Scarlett and her grappled as their fingers interlocked in a contest of strength. "Behold my strength- good gods!"

Scarlett started to push Wonder Girl back, "you wannabe demigod, do you really think you can contend with me? My sparring partner is an actual demigod." Eventually Wonder Girl was folded backwards enough that her back was in a painful position.

"Ha!" Aqualad lept towards her and swung his magical water weapons. But as soon as he was a foot away from her a fiery red wing sprouted from Scarlett's back and smacked him. Sending him flying into the decrepit building across the street. As for Wonder Girl, Scarlett just lifted her head and then brought it down on Wonder Girl's, headbutting her and knocking her out with a sickening thud.

"Woo… that was a good stretch. Are you not going to join the fun?" Scarlett looked towards Batman who was standing where he was before.

"What's the point? You won't kill us, but I doubt you would let us pass either. I considered sneaking past you, but I felt like I was being watched even when you were focusing on something else." Batman explained.

Scarlett blew a raspberry in the air, "fine, you're no fun. Just don't tell the kids, I feel like they are a little too hot headed and arrogant." Batman only shrugged in response before he nodded towards Kid Flash.

"Magic? How did you learn that?"

"In supernatural senses there is something called 'the last of a kind'. Since I am the last of my kind, I have several boosts and benefits from the universe as it makes an effort to prevent the extinction of my race." Scarlett casually explained something groundbreaking like it was typical.

"Oh so-" Batman was about to ask something else when a fiery green ball came and punched Scarlett. But instead of landing a hit, Scarlett threw Starfire over her shoulder and slammed her into the floor.

"Hahaha!" Scarlett let out a bark of laughter as Starfire had the air knocked out of her. "You really have some spirit! But you have gotten too used to punching down, I suggest you get a proper sparring partner that can keep you on your toes when you are going all out."

The door to the bar creaked open as a woman in a biker suit and helmet stepped out with a strange looking shotgun that had a blackish-purple glow coming off it. Once she saw what was going on she stepped out fully. Walking towards Scarlett she focused on the person she was holding by the wrist. "Hey Scar! Having fun?"

"Yup, I almost never get a chance to beat up people like this without killing them." Scarlett explained as she released Starfire's hand.

Starfire was so focused on Scarlett that she did not even realize the familiarity of the voice of this new woman. As she pulled herself to her feet she immediately realized she had a broken arm. "Where- where is he? Where is Nightwing?"

Scarlett rolled her eyes and pointed over her shoulder where Aqualad was walking over while supporting Nightwing, who was having difficulties walking. "Don't worry, I only spanked him. It is his own damn fault. He recklessly followed someone dangerous without backup or a plan in case anything went wrong. If it was that old fogey who came to town instead, he would be dead."

Batman looked over at Nightwing, "But he doesn't know about you. So who was he-"

Batman did not get a chance to complete his sentence as he felt someone hug him from behind, "Bruce. It seems you really are going all out with looking into my former disciples. To be fair, I have almost no control over them."

Talia Al Ghul was hugging him from behind. "I am guessing you are the reason they know about the supernatural side of the world?"

Talia only shook her head while she let go of him and walked towards the limo. "It really does not matter, Scarlett is from a bloodline where she had the most blood of a Phoenix seen in centuries. So she was bound to end up on the weird side of the scale eventually. As for the other one, Mylo, he is-"

"Hush…" Scarlett gave Talia a glare that made her jump. Causing Batman to frown, Talia almost never acted like that. Not even with her father around.

"Ah, nevermind. At least it will let you complete a few connections for your investigation. It was a pleasure seeing you. As for you," she pointed towards Blake, "look forward to my call when I am ready."

Blake only shrugged, "Sure." then she turned to Scarlett, "by the way, can you tell Mylo to drop by soon. Our daughter has missed him so much that she has begun taking apart the nanny bots to make a phone."

"Hahaha! The daughter of two geniuses is truly terrifying!" Scarlett laughed out as she walked towards the limo.

Blake only shook her head as she set her shotgun in the holster on her motorcycle before sitting on it herself. "Well, just pass the message to my ex-husband. Also bug him to get me season tickets. Our daughter has gained an interest in hockey as well." As she spoke she started her motorcycle engine and then pressed a button. A moment later the wheels were giving off a purple-black fire and it was floating then a moment later it was moving through the air. Another moment and she was out of view, then the limo started up and pulled away.

The Titans and Batman were speechless until a moment later when the magical binding and gag was released from Kid Flash. He stood up and looked around, "did we just get thrashed by a single woman?"

Batman grunted before he shook his head and walked towards the bar. He might as well investigate the bar while he was here. They came here for a reason, now he should find out why.

The Vacation House. Location Unknown.

Mylo was in the underground hangar. As he sat in the cockpit of a Thanagarian Exploration ship he pondered the next portion of this plan. He had just about finished with his study of this ship, so it was just about time to dispose of it. As well as getting those annoying Thanagarians off planet.

He sighed as he stood up and stretched. Looking towards the controls, he had just about figured them out, as well as the Thanagarian language. Which was written in a little book he picked up, a translation book. As he walked back to the lowered ramp he felt his phone ringing.

He pulled it out and answered when he noticed it was an unmarked number. "Hello?"

"DAD!?!" Mylo immediately recognized the voice.

"Elenor? What are you doing with a phone?" Then Mylo looked at his watch, "more importantly, aren't you supposed to be getting tutoring?"

"Huh? Well… I already learned everything the nanny bots were able to teach me. I have been teaching myself for about a week now. Anyways! That is not important! I want to go outside now! You said I could when I complete my studies. I want to see the world! I want to go to a Hockey Game! And… I miss you." The last part was whispered out.

"Ha… Hmm… let us see. I think I have a day off next week, but I am pretty busy. If you want I can-"

"No! Sooner!" Elenor yelled over the line.

Mylo grunted in annoyance then sighed while smiling, "okay… I will come tomorrow night. I will have some time to drop by. That will also give me enough time to give you a response to your request. But for now… do me a favor and use your mother's secure phone. I worry someone will find you and that place."

There was a moment where he could almost hear his daughter thinking before she responded, "Okay… sorry daddy… ah! I think I hear mommy! Bye!" Then the line went down as Elenor hung up.

Mylo sighed and continued out of the ship as he was leaving he started walking over to a tool bench when he saw a trio of a headache walking towards him. They were not dressed in their respective uniforms but they did not need them for him to recognize the current generations: Atom Smasher, Vixen and then the new member not from a legacy: Cyclone.

"To what do I owe the headache?" Mylo asked as he sat on his workbench. He was working on something with a stack of tarot cards nearby. The cards gave off a negative chaotic energy, fortunately only Vixen could vaguely sense it.

"You are working on something disturbing again." Mari, Vixen, gave her usual sarcastic remark as the opening statement.

"Ignoring Mari, we want to know when we can actually start helping people. Because it is not doing anyone any good to stay hidden like this. Besides… you said it would be soon." Maxine, Cyclone, was all in on the concepts of heroes. She was an idealist, which could have been just as dangerous as being a villain. Fortunately, she also had a good head on her shoulders.

"I… actually came here for a different reason." Albert, Atom Smasher, cut in as he nodded to the ship, "I was coming up with a new design for a ship and was wondering if I could look over the design of the alien ship." Too careful as always, it was probably due to his family pressuring him into the legacy that he was like this.

Mylo nodded to the far side of the table where a set of schematics of the alien ship were. "I translated and explained as much as I could. Can't study the ship anymore, I have only an hour before someone comes to take it out."

He then turned his attention back to the device he was creating. "As for the reveal of the Justice Society of America. We have observed the War World long enough, we know now it will be here this Sunday. As much as it bothers you, I want to wait until at least then or after. My instincts tell me that it won't just be a grudge match between War World and the various humans they have observed. Which is why you are staying out of the public eye. Trust me, as soon as you are revealed you will be able to publicly pursue all those investigations you have been wanting to do."

"And the best part is that you will have Waller's new organization to help you." Mylo's last sentence caused even Atom Smasher to look up from what he was doing.

"Sorry… guess we still don't trust you." Cyclone explained while whispering.

"That is alright, I am more of a landlord rather than anything else. But this is the Waller Train, so I am only her messenger. As for afterward, well once I am done with getting you public. I am done and technically 'retired' from my Military career." Mylo explained, "if it makes you feel better, I prefer working in the gray area of operations. Because that way, I will always believe in what I am doing."

"Huh?" Vixen seemed confused, "isn't it usually the opposite? The gray area is where you are not confident?"

Mylo shrugged as he put on the final piece of his machine that he was making and Vixen realized was giving off a faint neutral magical signature. "It means, I only do something when I want to. I will never do something I am instigated or forced to do." He then shakes the machine, "like messing with heroes who think they know it all."

"Thanks for answering our questions. We will get back to training, the new Hawkman's going mad from not being able to meet with Hawkgirl." Cyclone mentioned as she walked away.

Mylo sighed as he put the final pieces on the machine he was making.

Three Years Ago. The Villa. Hidden Among Mountains.

Mylo pulled the warm body of his wife closer as he nuzzled at her neck. He could hear her chuckle as she patted his hands.

"If you want to go another round we can." Blake, who was formerly known as Blackfire, had really taken a liking to her new life. Even going as far as completely forsaking her old name and experiences.

Mylo sighed before he removed his hands and sat up, "I can't, I have another assignment. Waller really wants to work us to the bone."

"You always do this," Blake whispered sadly. "Why don't you just quit? Your own daughter won't recognize you at this rate."

"Haaa… I can't. I plan to make a big difference so children like our daughter can live without having to worry about being killed." Mylo explained as he started slipping on clothes.

"But… but we don't have to." Blake spat out while looking at him worriedly, "we can live in this pocket dimension that you created with your father's relic. We don't have to worry about the outside world."

Mylo sighed and looked at Blake, "I can't. Both myself and Scarlett have people that we worry about outside the confines of the Lunar Winter Dimension. And it is not like we can just bring them in, because they will want to protect people, and so on and so on."

He then moved over to the door and opened it and walked out. Blake curled up in a ball and silently cried as three different robots moved into the room and started picking up the room. She stayed there for a few minutes until she heard crying from the next room. She stood up, still in her nightgown and walked up to the door. As the door slid open she walked inside and picked up the child that was in the cradle. Blake looked lovingly down at her child, Elenor.

Elenor was going to grow up to be a true beauty, She had bright purple hair and eye color. She had skin that tanned like her father's. She even had the light of intelligence and curiosity that her father has in her eyes. Blake smiled, "maybe for you, I could even destroy a world."

Now. Jump City International Airport.

Scarlett sighed as the plane took off. "So what deal did you make?"

Talia shrugged, "I got her to agree. She will join our little but growing group. I am surprised that you and Mylo have not recruited anyone else."

Scarlett chuckled, "Mylo has been waiting to acquire a certain artifact before he started looking any more. I, on the other hand, am too busy. I just got a message from Waller. I need to get back and help her with the new group she is making."

Jump City. Caitro's Bar.

Batman stood at the bar and stared intently at the pictures behind the bar. Or rather he was staring at one in particular. He then sighed, "this branch of the investigation is a dead end. I am heading back to Metropolis, the Justice League has guests it needs to finally deal with." As he walked out he whispered, "this guy really knows how to get on my nerves."

Nightwing was confused as he was slumped on a bar stool chair. He then looked at the wall of pictures that Batman was looking at. It only took him a minute to realize what he was looking at, "Star!" Nightwing called out.

Starfire looked up from the booth she was slumped at, she still felt embarrassed from being outdone earlier. The voice of the biker woman she saw was also beginning to bug her. She walked up to Nightwing and he nodded at the pictures without saying anything.

Starfire looked and nearly broke down crying, one of the pictures had the image of her sister with short cut hair with a young man with black hair and tanned skin. Between the two of them was a young girl about two years old with purple hair and eyes. They were all smiling and wearing some team jersey. Underneath was a caption that said, "My new Tamaran, my new family." Starfire felt her eyes tear up as she raced out of the bar. She walked out to the road and looked towards some trees in the distance.

A minute later she heard limping and grunting as Nightwing limped behind her, "Hey Star… you want to talk about it?" He came up next to her and was holding the photo.

Starfire chuckled before she gave Nightwing a sad smile. "When my sister and I were younger, and I was still ignorant of what they were doing to her, we had a chat while we were alone at night. We talked about our dreams. I dreamed of a happy life where I could fight and live happily with my family. My sister gave me a sad smile, I did not understand then. But what she said next became more and more meaningful to me over the years. She said she want's to find her Tamaran."

"Isn't that your home planet?" Nightwing asked, confused.

Starfire nodded her head, "legend has it that our people migrated to Tamaran in order to find their happiness and freedom by escaping the people that conquered us. So actually, Tamaran is where we sought for a life of happiness and freedom. It seems that my sister has finally found hers, but it seems like it was necessary for Princess Komand'r of Tamaran to die."

"Sooo…?"

Starfire gave Nightwing the brightest smile he had ever seen. "So-" she tapped the photo he was holding. "My sister is dead in official U.S. records, so I do not know who this woman is. But she looks incredibly happy with her mate and adorable child. If we meet in the future it will be by fate and not because I sought her out. So there is no reason to bother her, because it is clear she is just fine as long as she has her happiness."
