The chaos in Gotham increased after Diomedes and others left.
Cain was completely out of control and using much scarier power than before. He tore apart everything in his way.
The only ones who could fly were Zatanna, Raven, and Starfire.
They attacked Cain with everything they had in the air to draw his attention only to them.
After that, there was a battle in the sky, and everything in their way was destroyed.
Cain grabbed Starfire by the neck with his long bat wings and red energy surrounding him in his monster form.
He then jumped in front of the buildings and broke through four of them before Raven appeared above them and hit Cain with an energy blast.
The hit sent Zatanna flying out of control, which caused him to fall.
She pointed her wand at him and fired a beam of energy that shattered windows until it hit Cain.
Cain fell on the roof of some building with burns all over his body, and the area where he was hit was burned black.
He stood up despite being hurt, and his curse started to work to heal his body.
Raven slowed down and raised her hands above her head while her eyes turned black and started to glow.
The broken glass from the windows around her that Zatanna had struck turned black because of her dark energy.
They started floating before falling to the ground.
The pieces of glass rose above her head, slowly spinning and gaining speed, then forming a ring.
Raven lowered her hand, and the glass fell to hit Cain's body.
The glass pieces didn't have a lot of force when they hit Cain, but her energy and the speed of the impact turned each one into a sharp sword that tore his body apart.
Then it was Starfire's turn.
She stayed high up all this time.
After seeing Raven's attack stop, she dove down with both arms extended while reaching her maximum speed, and released her starbolts.
She was glowing green, and her hair was glowing red.
Seeing this from a distance, Starfire transformed into a comet that hit Cain.
"BOOOM!"
Starfire broke the sound barrier before he hit him.
She flew like a rocket, destroyed a huge area around where Cain was, and brought down several buildings.
Now, Starfire stood up above the cloud of dust that rose from the destruction and looked down.
"You went a bit overboard."
Raven said, who suddenly appeared by her side.
"But Kírix said I could stop holding back."
Starfire said, almost a little concerned about the destruction below.
"It's okay!"
Zatanna reassured them and floated beside them.
"Nobody was around, at least no humans, so it's okay," she continued.
"That's good. I hate getting scolded by Kírix or Robin when I destroy something I shouldn't."
Starfire sighed and was genuinely relieved.
"How's it going?"
Zatanna asked Raven and looked at the dust cloud below that blocked their view.
"He's rising. The debris that fell on him is giving him a bit of trouble."
"Good thing he lost his sanity; otherwise, he could just transform into something and easily escape."
"You shouldn't say that, Miss Zatanna."
Starfire warned.
"What?"
Zatanna asked with confusion.
"Saying phrases like that. There are people who warned me it brings bad luck."
"BOOOM!"
Cain listened, and from the dust cloud, a swarm of bats flew upward in their direction.
Raven took the lead and conjured an energy sphere to protect them from the bats.
"See, bad luck."
Starfire sighed.
...
They have been walking along the Road of Nothingness for some time, or at least that's what Dio felt.
The concept of time here is quite strange, so it could have been half an hour by his calculations or just a minute.
It's hard to tell, as not even Xanadu or the others could say.
This was when Xanadu told Cain's story.
A simple yet complicated story.
After wandering the world for millennia, Cain began to seek ways to end his immortal life.
He tried to break free from the curse, but it didn't work because the being who put it on him was the Creator of everything.
Then he encountered Dream, another of the Endless, the brother of Death herself, and the Lord of the Dreaming.
It's unclear what happened in that meeting.
It was impossible for Dream to take away Cain's Immortality, but he could give him a peaceful place in his realm.
However, Cain was bound to Earth, which prevented him from entering the Dreaming.
Dream couldn't remove his immortality, but he could bend some rules. So he used his power to split Cain into two entities.
One of them was the original Cain, an immortal human marked by the Creator.
The other was the vampire, a pure evil creature solely focused on creating destruction.
In order to keep this dark side from coming out on Earth, Dream altered reality and sealed Cain inside the body of Andrew Bennett, who had just turned into a vampire.
This made them one—two sides of the same coin.
Cain wouldn't be freed as long as Andrew was alive.
Since there was already one Cain on Earth, the second Cain was free to go to the Dreaming.
Dream gave him the House of Secrets, which has a strange library there.
A library that holds all the unwritten stories of humanity and all the stories from their dreams.
This Caiin has been serving Dream in his house to this day.
"So that's why Constantine's spell didn't work because the vampire Cain and Andrew are the same person!"
Dio connected the dots on something that bothered him.
Constantine uses a rather unpleasant spell to kill Andrew, and the spell is supposed to kill everyone connected to him afterward.
However, that didn't happen since Mary didn't die.
This should have happened even if Cain had been released, but since Cain was also Andrew, he technically didn't die.
"That's right, Constantine's spell would never have worked since it's impossible to kill Cain."
Madame Xanadu agreed after he explained what he had tried to do.
"I didn't know this story before; if I had known, I wouldn't have tried to kill him."
"But how did you know that our Cain didn't have the mark?"
Dio asked him.
"There's a legend circulating many years ago that Cain encountered a powerful entity, and she helped remove the mark."
Constantine explained.
It seems that the real story had changed into the legend that Constantine knew today, but this also raised another question.
"Madame Xanadu, how did you know this story then?"
Dio knew she was old, but he doubted she was with Cain and Dream at the time or that they told her.
"You can just call me Xanadu."
Madame Xanadu said so and gave him a kind look.
From his side, Constantine frowned at him for some reason that he didn't care to find out.
"But who told me all this was the Lords of Order. I am one of their agents on the earthly plane. My duty as an agent is to protect magic."
Madame Xanadu explained.
The Lords of Order were another group of superpowerful beings who had almost complete control over magic.
They were always at odds with the Lords of Chaos, which keep the universe in balance.
A lot of information has been bombarded at him now, but at least everything has been answered.
"We're getting close."
"How do you know?"
Dio asked Boston.
"It's one of my abilities; I can travel to any place or plane."
Boston explained.
"That's why he came with us; he's better than anyone else for traveling between planes."
Madame Xanadu explained.
Dio believed her because nothing had changed for him even though she said they were getting close.
He still saw the same thing around him—darkness and nothing.
"You won't find anything using just your eyes; you have to use your third eye, or everything will look like a big soup of colors."
Constantine guided him to help him understand his confusion.
"A soup of colors? All I see is nothing."
Dio said it with surprise.
Then everyone looked at him.
"What?"
"Don't you see the group of colors swirling around us?"
Madame Xanadu asked.
"No, for me, there's nothing around us. Everything here is just emptiness, no colors, no air, no time or space, just nothing."
Dio explained as best he could.
For some reason, they continue to look at him as if he were a rare animal in a circus.
Dio didn't like that, so he kept walking ahead and left them behind.
It might be that Dio saw this place differently from them because he had these special eyes that could see through things, but he found no detailed information about them.

"Stop, you're facing the entrance!"
Boston shouted, and Dio stopped.
The three joined him, and Madame Xanadu took the lead.
"Let's go."
Madame Xanadu said.
The scenery around them changed as they walked.
There was nothing here before, but now they are on a blank canvas.
This white dimension had a faint light, and a little further ahead, they see a man sitting on the ground with his hands embracing his knees and his face between them.
He was shirtless, but by the black hair with a white streak, they knew very well who he was, Andrew Bennett.
Madame Xanadu took the lead again and approached him, then knelt down and lightly rested her hand on his shoulder.
"Andrew Bennett, you need to wake up."
Madame Xanadu requested in a low voice.
Andrew didn't move.
"Hey man, if you're mad because I killed you, remember that it was you who asked for it."
Constantine tried to provoke him.
But Andrew still didn't move.
"There's nothing to do; here, he has no voice or thoughts. We have to take him."
Madame Xanadu said this and stood up.
"And how are we going to do that? It's not an easy task to move a being out of the supernatural planes; believe me, I've tried."
Constantine must be referring to the innocent soul he let fall into hell, a well-known story from his past, and the pain on his face confirmed it.
"That's why I brought a son of the underworld with me."
Madame Xanadu smiled at Dio.
"Xanadu, this is way, way above me at the moment."
"And that's why there are two master magicians here."
Madame Xanadu smiled again.
"Do we have time for this?"
Dio asked concerned about what's happening outside and not knowing how long this will take.
"Don't worry about time; it passes differently here. All you have to do is follow us; you already have the innate abilities to manipulate souls; we'll just guide them.
Madame Xanadu confirmed.
"Alright, I'll follow you, not him!"
Dio made it clear and pointed his finger at Constantine.
"You're wise for your age."
Madame Xanadu laughed.
