Chapter 10

The Batcave

The entrance is in a cave under Wayne Manor. This cave is part of a huge network of caves that are all connected to each other.

There is a huge operational base with everything the vigilante needs to fight crime in Gotham in the caves next to the main one, right under the mansion.

There's a laboratory, a training area, a workshop, a medical bay, and even some living quarters.

These features are all built right into the caves, and there are several exits that make it easy to leave by boat or even small plane.

"Start recording,"

Batman said to his giant Batcomputer.

The main computer is in the main cave, and behind the computer is a staircase leading up to the mansion above.

There were several display cases here with various Batman suits.

It was all built around his car, the Batmobile.

"A man known as Diomedes Inwood, aged 10. During our first encounter, he displayed no unusual abilities, except for a remarkably sharp intellect, unusual for a ten-year-old."

A camera hidden in Batman's suit recorded images of a shy child speaking to him directly, which appeared on the computer screen while he was speaking.

The recording he was making now was his way of processing information and identifying potential issues.

"After we met and thought about the child's request to get back what rightfully belongs to him, I went to the location where the exchange was supposed to take place."

The image on the screen changed, now showing Batman on top of a building.

"While Commissioner Gordon was taking the child to the shelter, which we both believed the safest place for him, I continued to observe that location until the time of the exchange arrived. The child's information was confirmed when a woman known as Ma Gann appeared at the crime scene, along with several other adult no older than thirty."

The camera footage from Batman showed the inside of the dock, where Ma Gann was talking to another man, with a group of people standing behind him.

The conversation continued until the man opened one of the boxes he had brought and checked the goods inside.

"Once I was sure the shipment was there, I attacked. It was a quick and accurate attack. First, I created panic by destroying the lights above the platform. Then, using the darkness to my advantage, I silently disarmed those with weapons. After dealing with all who were armed, I focused on the rest, leaving the two leaders for last. After the fight ended, I personally removed the necklace from Ma Gann's neck. That was my mistake."

He said the last sentence with a tone of self-pity. It wasn't his first mistake in life, but for the first time, his mistake had risked a child's life.

He paused for a moment to ponder before continuing his story.

"After the fight, I waited for the GCPD to arrive for the arrests. However, when they did, I realized that one of Ma Gann's associates had escaped. When they're hurt, animals and people also tend to go back to a safe place. So, I went to Ma Gann's house for troubled children. There, I found that two off-duty police officers who were supposed to protect the child were dead. I rushed to the door as I thought the worst could happen, and I saw what made me start recording."

Then Batman pressed a button on his computer, which showed a full analysis of the moment he arrived at the scene and saw his fugitive hanging from bone hands.

"Somehow, the child opened an unknown ability when he fought for his life, but this ability lasted only a few seconds. As he lost consciousness, the hands dissipated into thin air. After making the fugitive unable to move or do anything, I decided it would be good to take the boy to the laboratory here in the Batcave for further analysis."

"Beep-beep!"

"Pause, report,"

Batman commanded.

The computer's beeping sound was an alert that something was very close; it was moving quickly toward the Batcave.

There were sensors set up several kilometers away from the cave, so Batman had plenty of time to watch the object coming at him on his screen.

Seeing who it was, he simply pressed another button on the computer and opened the door for the "guest."

It didn't take a minute for the guest to soar into the cave and land behind the chair where he was sitting.

"Bruce,"

She greeted him.

"Diana,"

Batman replied while getting up and facing her.

"This is the first time you've officially invited me to your city,"

She said that and looked around.

Diana, also known as Wonder Woman, was a beautiful woman with long black hair, sky-blue eyes, and a simple, gentle smile.

She wore a red corset with gold accents on the bust and waist, a blue skirt with white stars, and golden boots.

On her head, she had a golden tiara with a red star in the center. She carried a shield and a sword on her back.

She stood with her hands on her hips, which made her silver rings and gold belt stand out.

"There's never been a reason to call you here,"

Batman replied.

"What happened?"

Diana asked and noticed her friend's serious expression.

"Take a look at this,"

Batman simply replied and pointed to the computer screen, where the recording of the boy's awakening abilities played again.

"Magic?"

Diana asked and watched the recording with some interest.

"Hard to say. When he lost consciousness, everything he did disappeared without a trace. I felt responsible for his condition and curious about his abilities, so I brought him here for treatment. But the surprises didn't end there."

Batman pressed another button, this time showing an image of another part of the cave—the infirmary.

On a bed lay an unconscious young man who appeared to be around twelve years old. His hair was as white as snow, and his skin was unblemished and pure.

The only thing that set this child apart from a statue was a shoulder bandaged with gauze.
