Chapter 2410: Spirit Assault (Twenty-Eight)_1

Spider Man stood on a desolate piece of land.

All that met the eye was scorched earth; the city was left with nothing but ruins and remnants. Countless plumes of smoke wafted from behind the hills, and various colored flags lay scattered on the ground, no longer vibrant as they once were.

Spider Man slowly walked down from the hill and found two bodies near a cave. They were clad in armor intricately engraved, yet they had long been dead. Their bodies were not decomposed, but utterly lifeless.

After removing their armor, Spider Man discovered that one had been killed by a thrust through the chest, while the other had been disemboweled. However, a commonality between them was the wounds on their bodies were not fatal. The true cause of death was the powerful force still lingering in their bodies that had not yet dissipated.

It was a kind of power that Spider Man was not frequently in contact with but somewhat understood—Divine Power.

Having arrived in this place two days ago, Spider Man had not found any intact cities or buildings on this land, only bodies, bodies, and more bodies, all dead from various traumas, surrounded by traces of battle.

After walking for two days without leaving the battlefield, Spider Man realized that this universe was even more special and dangerous than he had imagined, no wonder that mysterious existence in the fog had sent him here.

Humans often wage war, a fact Spider Man understood better than anyone else. People survive through struggle, but in reality, humans spend more time cooperating, which has allowed them to survive until now.

Yet this universe seemed to be left with only war. Without external interference, no normal human society could possibly develop into this state. Behind the endless wars, there must be another culprit.

The appearance of Divine Power could not be a coincidence. Spider Man understood that his two days and nights of walking had taken him closer to the center of the battlefield. Initially, on the outskirts, the dead were ordinary soldiers, dying from infected wounds and naturally turning into skeletons.

But now, two bodies that didn't fit the pattern appeared before him, with traces of Divine Power still lingering on their bodies, and according to the patterns on their armor, they should be from the same Deity System.

"Stop! Who are you?!"

A panicked shout came from behind Spider Man. He turned his head to see a warrior grasping a spear, looking terribly flustered, with a bleeding arm, and around the wound twisted the persistent Divine Power.

Spider Man immediately raised his hands to show he meant no harm and said, "Sorry, I just arrived here and don't understand what's going on. Can you tell me?"

Hearing him speak English, the warrior hesitated for a moment, looking somewhat bewildered as he said, "Are you human? You wouldn't happen to be from Twilight Plains, one of those pointy-eared folks' underlings?"

Spider Man keenly caught the keywords and looked at the warrior, but his gaze fell on the warrior's arm wound as he said, "You're hurt. Why don't I bandage that up for you first?"

The warrior seemed taken aback again, glanced at his arm, and then said, "No, I don't need bandaging, this little injury will heal soon. I'm looking for my companions. They were scouting around here, but haven't reported back as agreed. Have you seen them?"

To Spider Man's surprise, the warrior turned out to be unusually friendly. Normally, people aren't so trusting of others on the battlefield, but it seemed this warrior had no defenses against Spider Man, perhaps because he took him for an underling of Batman?

"I saw two bodies," Spider Man slightly tilted his head to the side and said, "just down there at the foot of the hill. You can go and see if they are your companions."

The warrior immediately ran off, but soon returned, looking dejected, and said, "Yes, they both have fallen in battle, may the Sea God bless them, they will ultimately return to the embrace of the sea."

"Are you from the God Clan?"

"Of course," the warrior nodded and said, "This has always been the God Clan's battlefield. You shouldn't have come here, but since you are here, you'd better hurry back to your Boss. Ares is looking all over for you guys."

At this, Spider Man walked towards the warrior. Although there were no immediate reactions, the warrior still cautiously backed away two steps. Spider Man said, "I have a way to treat your wound, come here."

The warrior hesitated, sizing up Spider Man and said, "Your human medicines won't work on me, and this Divine Power left by Ares's mad followers is difficult to remove, even the Moon God would struggle, you should…"

Spider Man extended his hand toward the warrior, and a fog swirled around his arm. As his hand touched the blood-soaked Armor, the bleeding stopped, and the wound healed.

Looking at his arm in shock, the warrior stepped back, eyeing Spider Man, "You are not human. Who are you? Who is your main God?"

"He... It's hard to say. I'm not even sure if he's a God, but anyway, can you tell me what the situation here is? Even if just for the sake of me helping you heal."

"If you're looking to gather information, you've got the wrong person," the warrior spread his hands and said, "The Sea God's crown was just dragged into this, we are not good at fighting on land, we can't even adapt well to walking on two legs."

The warrior lifted his face guard, and Spider Man saw that his cheeks and the sides of his ears were scaled, and his eyes shimmered a deep blue, like the flickering light of waves.

"I don't know when the war began, but it's been raging since I was born." The two of them found a mound of earth to sit on, and the warrior said, "There's fighting within the sea and outside. Your human nations are fighting, and so are the Divine Countries."

"However, not long ago, Ares launched a war against the world of humans. Naturally, humans wouldn't submit without a fight; they've been resisting. Among them, Batman is exceptionally strong. The Sea God's crown said that he's the mightiest warrior on land."

"But... you know how they say, 'Even heroes have a weakness for beauty,' right? I heard Batman got involved in this war for Diana. You know about Diana, don't you? The Amazon Princess, she's a demigod, and I've heard she's quite a looker."

"Ares realized the resistance he faced was unexpectedly strong, so he started recruiting other gods. And since wars were breaking out everywhere, and Ares being the god of war, other gods relied on him, they had no choice but to join the fray."

"Most of them were reluctant to confront Batman, though. Like the main god I serve, who usually just sends out a few scouts each day for a routine check and that's it. Ares has urged them a few times, but since they're all related, it's hard to persuade them."

"About two years ago, Ares found himself trapped by Batman and Diana on the Twilight Plains. Of course, it wasn't just their doing, some bizarrely strong humans also pitched in."

"Anyway, Ares was stuck for quite a while. I've heard he recently found a way to break through..."

"What way?"

"How would I know? I'm just a scout. But he must have found a way, otherwise he wouldn't suddenly challenge Batman to a contract fight after being at a stalemate for so long."

"A contract fight? With whom? Batman?"

"Yes, the location is at the Twilight Plains. I've heard several main gods are heading there. They probably want to take advantage of the situation, you see. They're not very optimistic about Ares. If Batman were to take down Ares, it would be a good chance for them to pick up his Divine Artifacts."

"When did they set the fight for?"

"Uh, about two or three days ago, I think. It's hard to keep track of the dates here, but it feels like it's been a while."

Spider Man immediately stood up and said, "We better find a safe place to stay. I suspect it won't be safe anywhere here soon."

After bidding the warrior farewell, Spider Man immediately dashed in the direction he'd pointed, but not before passing through the Foggy Space to face the enormous black sun to borrow more of its power.

Spider Man hadn't had much contact with Batman, but he had certainly heard a great deal about his renowned reputation. Apart from seeing discussions about Batman on the Spider App, he'd also asked the black sun for all sorts of information about Batman.

In summary, if Batman had anything to do with someone, there was no way they wouldn't be humanlike at all.

The dire situation finally made Spider Man realize why the black sun had sent him here.

After the old Earth of the Marvel Prime Universe merged with Earth No.1 of the DC Universe, along with the move of old Earth 616, the Amazing Spiderman of the Prime Universe scarcely ever returned.

It wasn't that he didn't want to go back, but since being retrieved by that black sun, he had never had a moment's rest—running errands in one universe, delivering messages in another. Even though this was routine, as he could always return to the Fog Realm without any danger."

But the first time he saw a God forcing his followers to study, refusing to let them go until they learned, Spider Man often found himself locked in the Foggy Space, forced to study voluminous tomes. If he didn't memorize them, he wouldn't be released. After several months of this, Spider Man felt he might now be the most well-versed in mysticism out of all the Spider Men across the universes.

This was also why, upon discovering those two bodies, he was able to recognize the Divine Power within them straight away. Despite being considered not very talented, he had still learned the basic methods of manipulating fog.

By covering his eyes with fog, he could see the flow of energy and determine its nature based on the ripple patterns. As for dispersing it, there was no need; this kind of fog consumed all sorts of energy. It eagerly welcomed anything it touched, whether Divine Power or some other force, and it would simply vanish on contact.

So, recently Spider Man's life consisted of either running errands or self-study in the Fog Realm. He only occasionally returned to Earth to watch New York from a distance, ensuring that order prevailed.

However, just two and a half days earlier, Spider Man received a massive knowledge dump from the black sun—the largest he had ever gotten. It contained detailed descriptions about the God Clans of various universes.

Spider Man knew that this was signaling something major was coming up, but he didn't expect it to be this big—that he'd land in a universe where Batman was leading humans in a great war against the God Clan.

Where should he even start with such a rescue? Spider Man thought as he felt a headache coming on. He didn't even care whether the black sun meant for him to save them or not.

In fact, he had long realized that the god he served—he momentarily referred to him as a god because there was no better term to describe him—seemed to lack a clear purpose in his actions.

Wherever the black sun sent Peter, there was never a specific task to do. Peter could just find a hotel and sleep soundly till morning. Whatever was sent, the item seemed totally unrelated to the task—if it got lost or stolen en route, it didn't matter. Even whether Peter delivered it or not was of no consequence; it seemed as though the other party was only interested in the act of sending him there.

So Peter picked up a habit. He would go wherever the black sun directed and do everything else according to his own will. So far, this mysterious deity hadn't expressed any opinion—neither approval nor disapproval.

Peter had a strange feeling that the black sun was also interested in what he would do, indifferent to the outcome, only caring about whether or not it was interesting.

Peter looked out into the ravaged landscape and shook his head, knowing he had to stop this war, because no matter what, bloodshed and death should not be the main theme of any universe.
