Seeing his mom follow him outside, Rufus knew she was going to say something he might not like. "Rufus, since you are taking your Grandmother's supplies, Valarie will join you and visit her one time."

"Mom, I am not going to linger but since you insist I have no problem."

Looking at Valarie, "Don't stand there get in, I have things to do." But she continues to stand there looking him.

Becoming angry, 'If she feels I care or will help her to the van, she better think again.' Getting into the van he drive away leaving her looking after him.

Rawlins just laugh, "What is so funny?" Cheryl asks, angry with Rufus behavior.

Rawlins look at Cheryl and said, "Honey, he told you he was busy, Carlos was home the entire day and he was aware that his Grandmother's supplies had to be delivered.

Yet he skulks around the entire day and you know what, you encourage him. If I was Rufus, I would do the same thing."

"Rawlins, you are sometimes stubborn just like him, but when he returns I will deal with him."

"Sorry honey, my Son behavior is not at his best, since we brought this young lady home."

"Valarie love, my little brother must be a bit disappointed about what happen earlier, and he must be a bit edgy, so you will have to excuse him."

"Carlos, what are you talking about" Cheryl asks angrily.

"Well mother, I saw him going to meet Grandmother companion at the grove earlier."

"That's it, Rawlins, your Mother is encouraging this nonsense."

"Sorry honey, but if something is going on, I don't think Mother knows anything about it."

"I don't believe you, the both of you have one head, and I will stop him from visiting her."

"You will do no such thing, that's his Grandmother."

"We shall see?"

Within half an hour Cheryl heard the van stop at the front, hoping to have her say but from the minute Rufus enters through the front door, he was in such a rage hearing him shouting at Carlos.

"Five days I am not in the house and nobody sees it fit to check Grandmother, she could have starved and no one will know."

"What are you talking about Rufus?" Cheryl asks.

"Mom, her cupboards were empty and Carlos sits in the house knowing the supplies have to be delivered to her."

Handing her the list grandmother gave him,, "She sends this list and said to make sure she gets these items by the morning."

"Rufus, I need to speak with you about something important, and where are you going now?"

Knowing if he linger around, mom will want him to spend some time taking Valarie around, and to sit with the family.

I must get away from them, I must make sure they knows I am not interested. I made a promise to Courtney and I rather die than break it.

"Mom, I have to help the men with the order we got earlier today."

"Rufus, Carlos told me you went to meet that young lady by the grove?"

"Mom did he tell you he was there before me, thank God I met her to know, there was no food in the house."

Being so angry he turns to Valarie, "I am sorry, but whatever arrangements my parents made with you? I am not interested and cannot fulfill it, goodbye it was good seeing you."

"Rufus this behavior of yours is unacceptable."

"Sorry if I displease you Mom, but right now I don't have the time to discuss it."

"Rufus, I am speaking to you." Hearing Rawlins laughing as he leaves. "He is very obstinate and rude Rawlins, and you encourage him." Cheryl snapped at Rawlins.

"I know you are right, but your head is hard honey, you hear him saying he has work to do, he doesn't want to get married, so when will you accept that.

When Carlos takes over the running of the plantation then maybe he might relax and decides to get married."

Noticing Carlos looking at him in disgust, then when he did speak, "Dad, are you saying that Rufus is free to move around while I manage the business when I get an heir?"

"That is the plan, your Grandfather said whichever one of you gives him an heir the plantation is there's. So, you better start learning because as you can see, Rufus is not interested."

"Mom, I don't think I want that responsibility, I could manage from the house but the field is a different matter altogether."

"Are you an idiot, how will you know what the field has from what it doesn't, haven't you learned anything from Rufus?"

"Mom, he likes being in the field, I don't."

"You like to spend money on luxurious things right."

"Well, the money belongs to the family."

"No, you fool, because Rufus work in the plantation your father gives him fifty percent of the profit, and the remainders go to maintain the plantation and the family."

"Are you telling me that Rufus has his money separate from us?"

"Yes, he does, and seeing he is not interested in getting married, then I must say, he did not do so badly."

Cheryl, why is it you are now informing Carlos about this." Mom's replies.

Seeing Cheryl turn wondering, 'When did she come,' then replies to her remark, "What difference would it make Mom's, just as Rufus learns about making money in the business, Carlos should have done the same, and follow in his footsteps."

Not wanting Mom to see how angry she were with the behavior of both of them. Turning slowly Cheryl said, "You know mom, I only hope it is not too late for Carlos to learn the business?

Because after Carlos married, Rufus might take his money and leave the Island and this idiot might leave us to starve.

I now realized, I should have gotten Rufus a wife instead to bring the heir, that way I would live comfortably not having to worry about anything."
