Chapter 36

Greetings were exchanged and the usual morning inquiries regarding Bertha’s health were made.

“Eggs are ready,” Andy announced.

They made their way to the table and sat down. Clare came in and joined them. Jake and Jester were allowed to briefly greet Gran and Brad before being banned from the eating area. They sat in the doorway saying with their eyes they hoped the sentence of banishment would be rescinded…just this once…please?

“Hear anything from Hank?” David asked as he passed Brad the platter of scrambled eggs.

“Yes,” Brad said, taking the plate, serving himself and passing it on to Clare, who took the serving dish and looked at Andy with a raised eyebrow.

Andy chuckled, “Yes, Clare, I used Egg Beaters.”

“Thanks,” the nurse said.

“You worry too much,” Bertha said, also laughing lightly.

“Doctor’s orders,” Clare said. “Need to get that cholesterol down.”

Reverting to the previous conversation, David asked, “When are they leaving for home?”
