“I’ll have it done as soon as I can!” I snapped. “Get off my back!”
He looked at me like I’d just slapped him across the face.
“Is there something bothering you?” he asked calmly.
“Yeah, you.”
He looked like he wanted to say something else, but decided against it and returned to his office, slamming the door shut behind him. I felt bad for snapping at him like that, but I wasn’t in the mood to deal with him. Since I started seeing Paul, I hadn’t given a lot of thought to Jared. My needs were being met elsewhere, so I wasn’t exactly longing for him. He and I worked together the same way we always had, keeping each other at arm’s length. Still, there were times when I’d look at him and miss him. But the days of enjoying Jared’s company, sharing his weird meals, and tumbling into bed with him were over.
