A Glimmer of Hope

Despite his blindness, Zhang Wei refused to let his disability hold him back. He was determined to live as normal a life as possible, and so he began to learn new skills and adapt to his surroundings. Over the years, he became increasingly resourceful, finding new ways to do everyday tasks even without his eyesight.

One of the biggest challenges that Zhang Wei faced was cooking. With no way to see the ingredients or the stove, it seemed like an impossible task. But he refused to give up. Using his sense of smell and touch, he learned to identify different foods and spices. He also learned to use his other senses to gauge the temperature of the stove, the texture of the food, and the timing of the cooking process. Eventually, he became an expert at creating delicious meals, using his culinary skills to feed himself and others.

Another skill that Zhang Wei learned was building and repairing things. Despite the fact that he couldn't see the tools or materials, he was able to use his hands to feel his way around them, learning to identify different shapes and textures. With practice and patience, he was able to master a variety of tasks, from repairing broken furniture to building new structures from scratch.

Zhang Wei also learned how to write. Using a special technique that allowed him to feel the shape of the letters and words on the page, he was able to communicate his thoughts and ideas to others.

In addition to telling stories and playing the flute for money, he began doing odd jobs around the city. One of these jobs was cleaning the floors in a local bar. While this may seem like a small task to some, it was a huge accomplishment for Zhang Wei, as it showed that he was capable of doing even the most menial jobs despite his disability.

Cleaning the floors in the bar was not an easy job, especially for someone who couldn't see. Zhang Wei had to use his sense of touch and smell to locate the dirt and grime on the floor, and he would scrub and sweep tirelessly until the floors were spotless. The bar patrons were impressed with his hard work and dedication, and they often left him tips and kind words of encouragement.

One day, while Zhang Wei was cleaning the bar, he overheard a conversation between two people. They were discussing the existence of immortals in the world, and how not everyone could achieve immortality. This information shocked Zhang Wei, as he had never heard of such things before. He realized that in this world, there was a possibility for people to cultivate immortality.

As he listened to the conversation more, he began to feel discouraged. It seemed impossible to him that someone like him, who was blind and poor, could ever achieve immortality. However, he refused to let this defeat him and maybe he can cure his blindness when he becomes immortal.

After days of searching for information on immortals, Zhang Wei finally stumbled upon the Chi family, a well-known and influential family in the town. Rumours had it that they had connections to the immortals. He learned that every year, the Chi family would recruit servants from the town's beggars and poor people to help them. This gave them a good reputation in the city, and this year's servant recruitment was set to take place two months later. Zhang Wei knew that if he wanted to find an immortal, he must join the Chi Family, and this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him. However, he also knew that it would be hard for him to join as a beggar since he was blind. Blind servants could not do many jobs that normal people could do easily. But knowing this, he still did not want to give up this opportunity.

Two months later, today was the day that Zhang Wei had been waiting for. It was the day for servant recruitment for the Chi Family. Over the years, he had adapted to the life of a beggar and saved some money doing some miscellaneous work. He also had a somewhat good friendship with an old bartender who worked at a local bar. Since it was a big day for him, he asked the bartender for help in arranging somewhat clean and presentable clothes for him. He gave his savings to the bartender, knowing that he was a kind and honest man who would not covet his little copper coins.

After wearing clean clothes, he went to the city center, and he could hear many people talking. He knew that many people had gathered there for the recruitment. The atmosphere was electric with excitement, and everyone was vying for attention. Zhang Wei felt nervous, but he was determined to try his best and make a good impression.

Everyone was lined up in the city center, eagerly waiting for their turn to be interviewed by the Chi Family steward, who was responsible for selecting the new servants. The air was filled with tension and nervous energy as people tried to make a good impression.

When it was Zhang Wei's turn, the steward took one look at his blindness and immediately dismissed him, assuming that he would not be capable of performing the tasks required of a servant. However, Zhang Wei refused to give up so easily. He begged the steward to give him a chance, insisting that he was more than capable of doing any job that was required of him.

The steward was hesitant at first, but after hearing Zhang Wei's passionate plea, he decided to give him a chance. He asked him a series of questions to test his abilities and was impressed by his intelligence and determination. In the end, the steward decided to take a chance on Zhang Wei and offered him a position as a servant in the Chi Family household.

Zhang Wei was overjoyed at the opportunity, knowing that it was a rare chance to change his fate and perhaps even find a way to become immortal.
