Chapter 26: Secrets in the Castle
Kara paced the room, then turned to look at Eerik.
"I saw Henri," she blurted out, the words tumbling out in a rush as Eerik shut the door to her chambers behind them.
Fortunately, Mrs. Karvonen and Chione had retired for the night, giving Eerik and Kara a moment of privacy.
Eerik's brow furrowed with concern, his mind racing to comprehend the significance of her revelation. "What?"
Kara hurriedly clarified, "No, not like that. As we were leaving, I saw him watching us."
Noticing her trembling body, Eerik wrapped his hands around her soothing her softly. "You must have been confused," he murmured, drawing lazy circles across her back.
“Eerik, I know what I saw,” she insisted, her voice steady. But Eerik could still feel her trembling in his arms.
Instinctively, he pulled her closer, planting a comforting kiss on her forehead. “It was dark and you were really tense. It could have been anyone.”
