Crow's Lost Memories

Corvin is a boy who grew up with dreams of changing the world. By luck, he finds a chance to have lasting impact on the world after saving his family. As him and his new friends take positions at the forefront of a wave of industrialization, he peeks at an unnerving truth. Maybe, everything he lived wasn't simple luck but the will of something powerful? Will he be able to change the world in the way he wants during the industrial revolution of his country, or will he fail as he uncovers the truth about reality and his real identity? A.N: This is my first work, and just a simple hobby of mine but I do take it seriously. Some stuff may be more complicated than usual but please bear with it. I appreciate constructive criticism.

C13- A Fresh Night

After classes ended the next day, Noah asked to Corvin hang out.

"Corvin, can you come and hang out with us today? You almost have no friends, you shouldn't waste your youth reading books, you know?"

"Nah dude, I can't. You know, people are dying. I need to prepare, I can't sleep knowing I could have saved more people's lives."

"But you have a week still..."

"Still, I can't bro, I will come later. I promise."

Noah looked at Corvin's face, slightly sad. He didn't know why, but he knew Corvin was someone who would overwork himself to death for others, so he wanted to give him some time to breath and rest his mind. But the stubborn idiot wouldn't stop overworking until he stopped a global problem by himself.

'Am I just going to watch him do everything again? We are risking our lives but he is doing all the work. What can I do to help him? He will collapse before we leave at this rate...'

Noah, seeing that he can't make Corvin take a break, decided to relieve some of his friend's burden instead. He turned to his friends who asked for the two of them to hang out.

"Sorry, my dad gave us a task for the next week, so we need to prepare. You guys have fun for us as well, see you later.", he told his friends and headed towards the art room to pick up some supplies.

For the last month, apart from painting, he also studied music and started to learn how to play the violin. Sure enough, he got the hang of it in three weeks. So just like Corvin said, he could use art magic because he was talented in all art probably. So he brought the art supplies to his dorm and prepared a canvas to paint.

He started by mixing dark colours and slowly stroking with his brush. He wasn't aware of what he was doing, he was listening to his instincts and what his magic was telling him to do to create the thing he desired. His brush started to slightly shine white. After painting the half of the canvas with a dark sky, he then started to mix some white and grey paint and dipped his brush. His arm and hand moved almost on it's own as he painted clouds on the dark sky.

He then made a dark shade of blue and painted the top half of the rest of the canvas with it. He lightened the dark blue with some white and painted waves on the blue, and then added white bubbles. It was a wavy sea.

He put some red, yellow, white and blue on his palette and this time painted the two moons of the sky close to the horizon. One of the moons were slithly reddish orange, and the other was mint blue. He then drew their moonglaze on the waves and added stars to the sky.

He took some yellow paint and mixed it with brown. He painted a beach. He then drew a small island far away in the sea. He drew palm trees and grass on the island. The plants on the island were tilted slightly because of the wind.

He drew five baby turtles going into the sea from the coast coming out of a hole. He drew a couple holding hands and walking alongside the turtles. After painting the most of it, he added some details, corrected some mistakes and altered some of the shades. After adding the last touches, the slight shine on his brush went away after signing the corner of the painting with his name.

Then he looked outside the window to see how much time has passed. It was almost night, and the sun was just about to disappear from the sky. Tonight only Sermee, one of the moons, was present; making everything under it's light look slightly redder.

"Wow, that took long."

Looking back at the painting he made he put his hands on his hips and smiled proudly. It was his first time willingly making a painting with a magical function.

"It is a total success, if I were to say hehehe~. Let's name it, shall we?"

Talking and giggling to himself like a proud maniac, he started to think about what to name his painting. After a bit of thinking, he decided to go with the name 'A Fresh Night'. After giving himself an approving nod and exhale, he changed his cloths and went to sleep. Standing up and drawing for hours was already exhausting, and he also used magic this time. He was on the verge of collapsing.

Before going to bed, he injected some mana into his painting by touching his signature. His signature shined slightly as he injected mana, and then the painting activated. The waves started to move towards the coast, the trees on the island started to swing from the wind, the baby turtles started to slowly move towards the sea. A new one was emerging it's head from the hole on the ground. The couple started to move their hands and mouths, almost like they were talking, but of course no sound came. After activating the painting, the air around the painting started to freshen up, and a faint salty smell started to waft in the room.

That was the purpose of the painting. It freshened the air around it to be like the night breeze at a beach. With this, they wouldn't catch the illness from the patients, probably.

Noah fell asleep as soon as he threw himself to his bed.

'I forgot to make music too... huuaamm~ Maybe tomorrow...'

Knock knock knock

"Hey! Noah! NOOOAAAAH! I am coming in!"

Corvin went to check Noah since he was late to the first class today. He slowly opened the door and stepped inside.

"Noah, I am coming in. Why didn't you wake up today? Did you play too much? I told you to be respo- sniff~ sniff~ huh? Why does it smell like the sea?"

He walked towards Noah's bedroom. The salty smell increased as he got closer and he opened the door.

Inside, he found Noah in his bed, sleeping like a log.

"Oi, idiot. Wake up."

He nuged Noah to him wake up. Noah slowly opened his eyes and got up.

"Huh? Corvin? Huaam~ What happened?"

"You didn't come to the class, so I came to check up on you."

"Huh? I am late?"

Noah's drowsiness immediately disappeared as he heard Corvin. Then a salty smell reached his nose.

"Corvin, did you go to the sea? Why do you smell salty?"

"It's your dorm that is smelling, idiot. What did you do?"

"It is? Ah! Right, it's probably because of my magic!"

"Magic? You made a room scent painting?"

"No idiot, I made an air freshener."

"What's the difference? If you smell that much, just take a shower dude."

"That's not why I made it, idiot. It's gonna help us not get infected from the patients when we go north."

"Ooh! You finally decided to be useful huh? Show it to me after school. Why don't you also do some music? Maybe you can make up for that week you didn't do anything, who knows?"

"Ugh... I forgot I could also use magic, okay?"

"Forgot your only useful skill because you played around too much?"

"Wha-? I am not that useless, am I?"

"We will see, you are still a child after all..."

"Talking like you are not one?"

"I don't count, I am more mature for once.", said Corvin with a narcisistic smile.

"Yeah, yeah. Sure dude. Now, get out of my room so I can change. Oh, you can watch me change if you want, I am quite handsome after all."

"Sure."

"Huh?"

"I said sure. Come on now, change. I am watching."

"Wha-"

"You said I could, no?", asked Corvin grinning.

"No, forget I said that. I didn't know you were like that..."

"I am not, idiot. I am leaving, don't be late to the class.", said Corvin and left.
