Chapter 25: Follow My Lead

Abigail’s POV

Elle started our tour in the biggest central building – the library. We walked up a climbing stone staircase with a smooth guard rail. I used Elle’s hand as my guard rail instead. Her palm was soft against mine.

The building was guarded with two ivory lion statues that snarled their teeth at us when we walked by. We stepped in the front door, and I audibly gasped. The interior was fresh, clean, and modern. An elderly woman sat at the front desk typing away on a laptop. Her backdrop was flooded with light from the arched windows behind her. Two students sat at separate long tables, tapping pencils on textbooks while they absorbed their knowledge. The bookshelves were organized alphabetically and by genre: from history to romance to fantasy.

“This is amazing!” I exclaimed.

“Sssh,” The woman at the desk hushed me to not disturb the students’ studies.

Elle giggled.

“Sorry,” I whispered.
