"You asked me to tell you what's bothering me. So I'm telling you"
"I'm trying to know the root of your problem"
"It's what not what I think you're thinking"
"What do you think I'm thinking?"
"Trying to prove right about . . . everything"
"I see . . . your problem. So you didn't do what I asked you to do"
She is silent for the one-hundredth time.
"Your dumb uh?"
"Please, Jamal I'm not well to listen to your lectures"
"Lectures?" he chuckles and springs up, walking to his glass window.
"Yes. You need to stop wasting your time teaching me. I don't pay you and neither do you gain something in return"
He smirks "You're the best talker I know. I just wished your brain worked that way"
Her eyes widen "Did you just refer to me as someone whose brain is not functional?"
"Did I? Your words not mine"
"Don't try to turn this around. You just insulted me"
He says nothing "I'm still waiting for when you'd stop rambling and start telling what happened with your friend?"
"You must apologize before I proceed" she cleans her nails
"I deem that cold has taking over your head. I'd advise you take the green tea now. It'd dissolve the mucus before it completely blocks you brain cells"
Myla seats straight in bed "Ok. Right now you've crossed the line. I'm going to make sure you catch a cold when next we meet"
"Is that your way of threatening someone?"
"Wait until you get close to me and you'd have the answer to that question"
He laughs.
"I'd never catch a cold. My immune system is strong", he says
She scoffs "I'm giving you two hours to get cold"
"I thought that'd happen only when we meet" he bounces on his feet when walking.
"Changed my mind. I don't need to wait that long"
"I can see how desperate you are to make me suffer. It is said 'You know your enemies only when there's a misconduct'. Now I truly testify those words"
"If I am your enemy then you should be scared of me"
Something speaks in her heart. You should be scared of . . . She looks around as if called by someone.
"You said something?"
He chuckles "You've started hearing voices too?"
"I'm still on your friend you know", he adds
"Shit! I feel like hating you. Why don't you just let it slide?" She crumbles
"Because until you open up to me, then you'd be free minded about it. Let me guess, she beat you up in a fight because of your mouth"
She squints her eyes over the phone as if he can see it. He laughs at her tranquility "I'm sorry ok? Don't eat me up through the phone. I won't tease you anymore."
"Promise?"
He ruminates silently "Yep. I promise"
Two Hours Later
Jamal is on the floor, leaning against his bed and laughing. He sneezes and Myla waits to listen carefully, maybe her ears didn't collect that signal properly. He sneezes again and now it's her turn to giggle.
"Let me look at the time" she acts time conscious and he looks up from where he's seated to see a clock on his wall.
They've been talking for more than 2 hours, and not just that. Her words came to pass. He has caught a cold.
"Does someone need some medical attention? Because I got my check up tools with me and I can detect that this sickness was gotten from communicating with an infected person. And from the way it sounds, it's nothing but just a cold. It's going to take some weeks to cure"
"No, no I won't accept that"
"You already accepted it, remember? Are you now scared of my words? It's too late"
"It's never too late. Maybe something stunk my nose. It'd be ok" He stands moving to his window again, where he sees a car rolling into his open garage.
"I stunk your nose as promised. Hahaha" she laughs very loudly over the phone.
"I said I was sorry."
"You must suffer a little longer before that message cools it down. Everything we do have consequences you know. Maybe if you stopped making me vexed, you'd be fine now. Well, at least I told you what was in my mind."
A lady comes out of the car from the building and he frowns before getting back to Myla on phone.
"Don't try to over think. You'd soon find out why she left. And I'm happy you're laughing now. When I called you, you were barely talking. Sounding so innocent. But at the first nick name I gave you, you changed"
Latif walks to the front door and he remembers she having access to his electric door. He walks towards his room door and out.
"Um . . ."
"You need to leave?" she asks
"Well, yeah. Got something to take care of. Make sure you take care of yourself"
"And make sure you drink green tea" She chuckles on her words. He smirks and says "Always trying to win over me. I'm not done with you"
"You're still talking? I think I should add the weeks—"
"You won't get the chance. Bye" He hangs up before she says anything else. He walks down stairs and sees Latif coming towards him.
...
Myla curses under her breath and someone knocks from behind her room door.
"Come on in"
Brehilda and Tiffy come in view.
"You've been laughing for a long time. We heard your voice from below", Brehilda teases, her eyes moving from her friend to the phone she has in hand.
Myla abruptly sends it behind her. She doesn't want her friends knowing how addicted she has become to Jamal.
"For how long have both of you been hiding at my door?"
They throw their gazes away guiltily and Myla nods as if they said something.
They settle in her bed and she leans her head over the head of her bed, hallucinating about earlier.
"Return to earth. We're still right here. Tell us, that was Jamal right?"
Myla hangs her head, staring blankly. "Over the phone? I can see it behind you. Not good at hiding"
"We were just talking . . ." Myla starts explaining.
...
"What are you doing here?" Jamal is staring at the elegant lady coldly
"Please Jamal, I came for you to give me another chance. I've been unable to stop thinking of you since I left."
"Maybe you should accept your parents' proposal of sending you back to Italy. I need to go to work and now is not the time for visitors or distractions" he ascends back to his room.
"How did you know about that?"
"My mom told me. I believe you reported to he as usual"
"Well . . . yeah but I can't stay away from you. I need you in my life Jamal. I don't want to go to Italy."
"You're feeling this way because you're still here. Maybe if you go, you'd get me off your mind in a swift."
She enters his room and he doesn't notice until he turns. "You should go home. You have no right to get in here"
"I'm sorry I won't. I'm going to wait here until you listen to me"
He narrows his eyes towards her "I'm very slow in anger. And right now you have no idea where I am" is all he says before walking into the bathroom.
She knew that he'd be preparing to go to work now so she'd be able to take what she came for.
As soon as he is not in sight, she assumes he has gone to bath. She walks into his computer and does some manipulations before he comes back.
To be continued...
