Tell Me Everything

The day just seems to get colder and colder, my hair instantly turned to ice as we were walking to Keita's car, and my hands are close to turning blue. This cold feels even less bearable without Knox around. It's almost as if he is my warmth to this freezing Canadian weather. What's up with him anyway? Does it have something to do with what he and Keita were talking about earlier? Is he jealous of Daniel or something? I just don't get it, what does he have to be jealous about? After all, he already has his own crush apparently, so it shouldn't matter who I date anymore. Who is she anyway? The only girls he follows on social media are streamers, and they're all over eighteen as well, so it can't possibly be them.

The blast of music takes me out of my salty daydream. It's a love song, a newer one too. Valentine's day is coming up, so that would make sense then. Though I wish it wasn't playing with just Keita and I in the car, perhap another love song will be playing once Daniel and I start talking at his work.

"What are you thinking about?" He asks softly, his voice barely audible over the melodical duet blasting over the radio. I could just choose to ignore him and stare out the window, watching the snow slowly drifting down towards the ground.

Taking a deep breath, I turn my head towards him, his eyes don't leave the road. "Just thinking about how much work my classmates had today."

"Lies," He groans, rolling his eyes slightly and reaching to turn down the music a bit. My hair is all soaked and knotted now that it has thawed entirely, my jacket slightly soaked from the dripping water. The heat is blasting against my face, making me feel slightly sick from the mixture of the cold and warmth.

"Not lying," I shrug and direct my attention back out to the window. There is an insane amount of cars outside, which is especially surprising since the snow plows haven't even gone by yet.

"You're wondering why Knox was acting up," He mentions, glancing around to check his surroundings within the falling snow. I don't respond so he continues, keeping his tone steady, "I'm not completely sure what's up with him either, but I have the feeling that he just wanted it to be you two for your birthdays and nobody else."

"I understand that, and it's completely justifiable," I start, my voice high enough to make it sound like I'm crying. "But I know for a fact that that's not the only reason but I don't know for sure what the other reasons even are."

"Just let him have some time to cool down," Keita suggests with a surprising amount of compassion. "Let him play his video games while you and I go and have some fun."

"I just feel like I shouldn't have left him all alone," I mumble, holding my face in my hand as I stare out of the window with a mope-like face.

"But you have a soon-to-be boyfriend that you need to get closer to," Ketia mentions, twitching slightly as he says the words. "Sometimes it's best to drift apart for a bit and live your own lives."

"But he and I are best friends," My voice cracks. "Ever since fourth grade we did everything together, and I refuse to let a few relationships get in the way of my friendship with him."

"I'm well aware of that," Keita exhales, like he's surprised over how long our friendship has lasted.

"Besides, it's not like he has feelings for me," I mumble gazing out at the white world around us.

Keita pauses for a moment, the atmosphere shifting slightly like he's mentally asking me if I'm stupid. The car is pretty much silent aside from the sound of the engine and the low romance music playing over the radio. It's odd with how silent Keita is right now, he's either thinking extremely deeply about what I mean about that or he's focused on not getting us killed on this snow and ice covered road. A new pop-romance song plays over the radio, certain portions of it are impossible to understand due to the mumble rapper. I don't get why people even listen to those kinds of people, they just sound stupid whenever they try to recreate them.

Taking a deep breath, he speaks slowly with a tone of confusion, "What do you mean by that?"

"Apparently Knox had a girlfriend that he never told me about," I answer, unwilling to look him in the eyes. "Probably pretty recently too."

"What?" He shouts, hitting the breaks just in time to save us from a crash. Some idiot speeds past the intersection despite it being a red light for them. But Keita doesn't seem as interested in that as I would've suspected, he glances over to me with a look that tells me I need to explain right now then continues to go back to driving. He lets out a snarky snort and checks his surroundings, "Like my brother would ever get a girlfriend. I've only known of one of his crushes and I know for a fact that they'll never end up together."

"Because it was back in seventh grade and she moved to Alberta?" I ask, thinking of that being the most recent crush he ever told me about.

"Just tell me how the fuck that lazy idiot got himself a bitch," He orders, patience seeming slim.

"Well one day he was streaming and he left his stream on by accident-"

"Oh I know what day you're talking about," He cuts me off as he pulls into a parking lot by the cafe. "The day you both were caught on stream being all gross."

"Yeah, and when I went to turn off Knox's stream a message popped up from some random person asking if I was Knox's new girlfriend," I explain, unbuckling my seat belt and taking a long moment to bask in the warmth of the car before I'm forced to go back into the Canadian tundra.

"Maybe it was just a joke?" He suggests, turning off the car and taking a moment to think. "I really can't think of any way that Knox could possibly have a girlfriend. Fucker has a higher chance of dating one of those weird body pillows than getting an actual girl to like him."

"Knox would never get a body pillow," I retort, knowing the amount of embarrassment and harassment that would immediately follow if he were to get one.

"Oh really?" Keita smirks, gazing over at me like he knows something I don't.

I raise my hand up in front of me to block his stupidly good-looking face, "Don't, I refuse to believe that Knox would ever do something like that." Lowering my hand, we lock eyes, the low lighting somehow complimenting all of Keita's features.

We're both silent as we continue to gaze into each other's eyes. Keita's hair is a little messed up due to the cold freezing it slightly, but it somehow gives him an intoxicating addition to his already jaw-dropping beautiful features. He's definitely gonna throw a fit once he notices that his hair isn't the way he wishes it to look. If the music was still playing then this would definitely resemble some sort of scene in a movie. But luckily there isn't, which is good because this is my best friend's brother. He's off limits.

Keita moves slightly and my phone buzzes just in time. Finally breaking eye contact, I glance down at the phone and read the message. It's from Daniel, 'Are you here yet?'

Unlocking my phone, I type in my response, 'Yeah we just pulled up, give us a minute.'

'Alright, see you in sixty seconds,' He instantly responds. I like his message and slide my phone back into my coat pocket.

"Ready to go in?" Keita asks, his voice low and numbing.

Swallowing my anxiety for what Keita might do when he meets Daniel, I nod slowly and open the door, "Yup, let's go."
