"Every year, the elves hold a ceremony where we deliver offerings to our savior, a flamed angel that saved us during the attacks from the dragon monarch,"
One of the elf girls, with short blue hair, explained as she walked beside Luminis, who was dragging Orland's tied up body on the ground.
Isla was walking a few steps behind since she still felt she couldn't trust the elves and Alpha was just being her usual self, walking beside Luminis with no care in the world.
The elf girl continued,
"But recently, something has changed, the god bird seems to be getting even angrier with every passing year, it no longer accepts our fruits and food, so we reached out to a neighboring village and they proposed that we give the god human life, we must have angered the god bird with the fruits we were bringing".
'Flamed angel? God bird? What kind of monster would that be? Aril, any thoughts on this?' Luminis spoke to himself as he walked, his eyes making sure to pick up on everything around him.
[Question confirmed: From the description given, it would seem your target is a Phoenix bird].
'Eh? Isn't that like an S class monster? At Least from most manga I've read.'
[The phoenix birds are majorly Ss+ class monsters but in this world they are extremely rare and have been snuffed out of life ever since the dragon war.
If one is here, I believe it won't be as strong with no divine mana to feed it]
'Ahh I see, don't know why am even helping these people but I sure as hell ain't doing it for free… first I'll try to speak to this god and see if I can convince it to not destroy the village and if it resorts in a fight, I'll just rely on my heat resistance and see how it goes from there'.
[Understood, I will always be of service if you need me.]
'Great, having to act tough all the time just so I don't get killed is really exhausting'.
"We are here." One of the elf's voices drew Luminis's attention.
He looked in front of him to see a small village with multiple leaf huts and little elf kids running around.
"I'll go get the chief." The female elf uttered before running inside the village.
'A village filled with elves, that's not something you see everyday.' Luminis smiled at the sight in front of him.
Although he was quick to pick up on multiple the stares that were now fixed on him, while some of the villagers were merely afraid of who they were, others were just curious as to the business he had in their village.
"Pfft! Traveler, I do not understand what we are doing here? Are you not set to journey outside the forest anymore?" Isla asked, whispering to Luminis.
And Luminis responded with a sigh, "It's like you've not been listening to a world I said… I am simply helping these people settle their god problem, think of it as a way for me to get free help from them".
"I see… for a second there I thought you were going to offer yourself as sacrifice instead, that would have been quite foolish." Isla replied.
A nervous laugh creeped up Luminis's face, 'I can't tell if she's trying to insult me, or just straight up rude'.
"No no no no, we don't have much time!!! We are doomed, get everyone to start evacuating…" Yelled an old elf man as he walked out of the lead huts with another elf girl following behind him.
"Chief, you need to calm down…."
"We have no time for this… where is Orland… bring him to me." The old elf yelled, eyes widened in pure terror.
"This the guy you're looking for?" Luminis voiced out, stretching Orland forward with his grip around his neck. "Listen, I'm not here to fight… I only came to help you with your predicament."
"You would willingly sacrifice yourself for the god? Really?" The village head spoke, a bit of hope written on his face.
"What's with all of you and self…"
Suddenly, a huge wave of magic energy covered the place, it was so intense that even Sato found himself terrified by it.
And then, the roar,
Raaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrh!
It was so loud the ground shook from the force and people who heard it, couldn't help but cover their ears.
"The god bird is now angry…. We are dead now… dead now, there's no way, we are dead now…" The old man muttered to himself before falling to his knees, his eyes filled with fear and body shaking in terror.
'That was the god bird?' Luminis thought to himself before looking to the direction of the voice.
[Notice: High Magic release in the area, I have already pinned the location, would you like me to show you a path?]
'Yes please, the moment it feels like I won't survive, inform me immediately!!!' Luminis responded before charging forward.
"Let's go, Alpha!"
"Haaaaaaaaaaai!!!".
"Oi! Wait! Don't tell me you plan to confront it!!!" Yelled Isla, who chased after him, her spear out just in case anything crazy was going to happen.
"Does he actually plan to speak with the god bird?" One of the female elves with red hair spoke,
"Where did you find him?" A blonde haired elf spoke,
"When we were trying to get the sacrifices, he just showed up out of nowhere, I'm still going to kill him, just you wait, I'll…"
Paa!!!
The old man suddenly landed a slap on Orland's face, with a sad look on his face as he asked,
"So you went against my orders and attacked innocent people… so we can use them as a sacrifice?"
The old man looked at the faces of the remaining elves, "And you all went along with it? You were fine with whatever as long as it meant we were saved?!".
"Why are you getting angry?! I did this for us! I'd rather die than watch everyone die because you were too much of a softy to kill some humans!" Orland yelled back, still knelt on the floor, but his eyes blazing with fury.
The old man stared at him for a while, before finally speaking,
"We see going towards the man, and stopping him from killing himself, he stands no chance if the god bird decides to attack, I already made this clear, we are not to involve innocent people".
