“Oh, and Mr. Ruger, I highly doubt that book of names was lost. Don’t forget, you work for me. Unless it’s prison you’d prefer to be in.”
Before Todd could respond, Chancellor Clarke was out the door.
“Bastard,” Todd ground out.
“All we can do is stop what’s going on here tonight. They won’t have the list and…” Nick’s voice trailed off. “At least they and Raleigh will know others are on to them. They still won’t be able to carry through their plans with the slaves on that list.”
“The bastard is going to lose this war,” Todd said.
Nick looked ready to say something but never got the chance. People in the meeting room began shouting. The lights in the kitchen flickered for a few seconds and Todd knew the power had been diverted to the iron bars on the windows. They rushed back to the door, opened it far enough to see into the meeting room.
