I had never been quite so excited to see the New York skyline in my entire life. I was finally back in the States after a three-day business trip. But it wasn’t nostalgia for my hometown that had me smiling.
It was the prospect of seeing Chloe again. Not to mention the fact that no one had made any attempts on Sylvia in the past several days. I was beginning to think that whoever hired Stanley Smith must have gotten spooked.
Maybe they'd decided to call the whole thing off? Two of their assets had wound up dead, with a possible third if the man I chased into the river drowned after all. It would be enough to make most people think twice about continuing with such a risky plan.
